With this sort of stupid protection, I've to download a 9G plus from steam before I can play this game Can't they think of a much easier way to protect their games?

Hope not all games are using Steam.

DoW2 Retribution cracked releases were out on day one. Homefront is cracked as of today.

But honestly they should do as Ubisoft did with Hawx 2, it hasn't been cracked yet.

It looks like Hawx 2 has been cracked, but no one cared enough about the game, so the crack hasn't been widely distributed. Could also just be some jerks trying to spread malware and claiming they have cracks.

A general rule of thumb is that you cannot encrypt/protect/etc. any application to the point where it is uncrackable and still able to execute. It has to be able to decode itself in order to run, and a good crack team will be able to see how it does it. Examining the EXE in hex, monitoring the EXE's memory while it executes, and even more little tricks make it impossible for an application to hide anything about itself from a skilled analyst.

I've to wait 9 hrs before I can play this ^%&$ game from Steam even I purchased a boxed version from Amazon. Even on bb, the download speed sucks big time.

I had to wait about 15 hours. I didn't buy it on disk, however. I purchased it from the Steam Store, and Steam downloaded and installed it.

After I purchased the Orange Box, Left 4 Dead, and possibly Left 4 Dead 2 all on DVD, I realized that there is absolutely no use for the DVD anyway. I could have saved myself the trip to the store, not wasted my gas money, and just purchased off of Steam. The only advantage to having the disk is (assuming there are no patches to install), you can install the game right away and start playing. Once there are patches, then you have to download stuff anyway, and Steam won't normally allow you to play until all patches have been installed. So, the disks are pretty much useless, as Steam will download and install the game for you, and it will patch it for you, and you never need the disk again...
