what i did was uninstalled my AV (Avira, which was expired anyway) actually bought a new one (McAfee) installed it then turned real time scanning off. Uninstalled all my codecs and some iphone programs (to get stuff of youtube and convert movies onto my iphone) then re-installed my codecs but only - K-lite codec pack 700 mega - klcp update 704 - Combined Community Codec Pack 10-10-2010 in that order.
i'm completely chilled now and not freaking anymore
Oh and by the way when i was uninstalling my codecs i got a lot of error reports saying reg keys were broken or missing so i think that was my main problem.
so you figured it out and got it working, glad to hear it.
