Merrill doesn't have the creation skill tree, so she can't heal at all (unless you mod it in).

Does the spirit tree not have healing abilities, should check that when I play again.

Merril has all of the tree's except Creation (IE Healing), and her special is Blood Magic. I don't like Ander's (stick in the mud for siding with the Templars), so I modded Merril's Entropy tree out, and added creation to solve that (healing blood mage, gogo, basically the same thing with Ander's in Vengeance..)

Personally I'd rather of had the Main's Sister remain throughout the game, but eh
