But at least it's always here, unlike my two other regular haunts. Those site now have more downtime than up. It's pathetic. In this day and age, how can a community of a million users break down every fifteen minutes?

@FYI -- The "CH community" itself is not shrinking. We still register between 500 and 1000 new users each day. We now have over 1.13 million registered users. It's just that fewer users are commenting on the message boards, most likely because they are doing it elsewhere (a la Twitter and Facebook).

That, and people join but don't post in GD or OTD. Add to that that most of the members who used to post a lot have jobs, partners, college, some even have kids. They don't have time.
With fewer additions and most people interacting elsewhere instead of here, it drains the boards of life.
Let's just blame Facebook. Myspace didn't do this back in 06 to 08.

shrinking as in less activity here on the boards...yea i've noticed that too lately. someone made a similar thread a while back...same reasons were cited as Nic mentions here...and as Pwiz rightly points out...thanx to Facebook...personal info's got a very short shelf life

Obviously. The point here is that less and less people seem to be sticking around the social boards than in the past, which leads people to believe the site is dying. The site isn't dying, the social boards are another matter though.
