Yeah, this was a great idea. Now I feel stupid for asking why the rank disappeared in the first place.

Authors have a choice of changing their rank to any other using the EDIT PROFILE link. Killing the author ranks would disrupt too many aspects of the site which are tied to author accounts.

Can something be done for those of us stuck with the rank we had when we were UNL? My UNL ran out before I switched to Elder, and I can't change to my actual rank.
It's somewhat frustrating.
I added a reset feature to the edit misc. profile page for those who wants to reset their rank to the default rank.
