hey lads i know this is probley not the place to ask this but im on my last legs with this issue i cant fix it. i have a acer aspire 5739g laptop and the dvd/cd rom driver wont read dvds it will read cd roms no problem but not dvds. ne name of the actual drive is Optiarc DVD RW-7580S now the fact it plays the cd rom would suggest that its missing the drivers to play the dvds but ive updated it from the device manager manage and it says the drivers are up to date and that device is working properly i have trawled the internet looking for a driver ive reinstalled all the drivers on the machine but it still wont play any dvds of any kind so if anyone out there could give me a clue or do something for me it would be much much appricated i just got the witcher the enchanced edition and my machine wont even read the dvd

It may be a mechanical problem. CDs and DVDs are frequently read with different set of optics in combo drives. Other than that, the only advise I can give reads like a tech-support script of things you've already tried.

cheers for the reply brother i might just have to get the drive replaced in the end its just annoying me because everything seems to be in working order its not like im getting errors or something its just ya put in the cd nothing happens if ya go to my computer and hit the d drive it asks you to insert a disk oh im also using vista home premuim 32 bit as my operating system if anyone else checks out this blog and it helps
