I've had Windows 7 since school started because my university installed it on our laptops. Transfer speeds are ridiculously slow, the thing pauses for like 5 seconds between every ****ing file! Anyone know a way to fix this because it's seriously starting to **** me off.

1. You are using torrents and left the upload rate uncapped (which eats your bandwith incredibly fast).
2. You're on a school network or some other public network which either sucks or has someone on the same network doing #1 (in which case you're screwed).

It's transferring files to my external drive or even between drives on my laptop. It takes almost twice as long as when I had XP.

Oh. I would start with getting driver updates for your hard drives if any are avaliable. If it's an external hard drive, check to make sure it's plugged into a hi-speed USB thing (and the hi-speed USB drivers are working properly themselves).

well the "COPY" A file involves the Processor and HDD Speed so if you got an old bad processor you will have a bad time because Windows 7 Needs some extra processing speed and not forgot RAMs anyway the only option you may have is that there is a process that actually drain all the power of your CPU run the task manager and check that one out "CPU USAGE : %X" and till us what The X is on your PC or your cpu is very old and cant handle Windows 7 .
