When you are in range it will prompt to exchange/pick up the weapon using the key noted.
If you already have that weapon it won't prompt. Picking up ammo is automatic if you have that weapon as well.

really bad game. graphics are awful. its like a GTA. another game going in my box of failures to impress.

The key would be R ,you have to hold it to pick up things.
