Whiskey is a category of drink, like wine. You have types of wine and types of whiskey.
Scotch whiskey. Irish whiskey. Bourbon whiskey. Canadian whiskey. Rye whiskey. Corn whiskey. The list goes on and on.
Then you also have what ingredients and methods are used. Single malt. Pure pot. Blended grain. Etc...
But yes, scotch is a whiskey.
