It is one of my favorite games of all time, due to its unique battle system and really engaging story. This version released for the DS is somewhat a cross between Valkyrie Profile and Final Fantasy Tactics. The battle system is retained however, there is no free roam and you'll need to move your characters in fields via tileset or squares. The game poses so a variety of challenges, especially when you'll need to sacrifice an ally's life for specific battles in order to win and for your hero to become stronger. Dark as it may seem, there will be instances that your morals will be challenged as well - and that's how I felt just a few hours into the game. So I hope you enjoy the game and thank you for reading this up to this point. _______________________________________________________________________________ T H E B A S I C S ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ [BAS000] Like I mentioned before, this game is somewhat a hybrid between FF Tactics and VP. Unlike the other VP titles, COTP (Covenant of the Plume) offers strategy based battles. But instead of dueling mano-a-mano, characters can support each other by linking attacks, using the infamous button assignment system. ~ A T T A C K I N G ~ ---------------------- [BAS001] Each character can be assigned to any of the four buttons on your DS. The number of attacks they have will depend on the weapon they have equipped. You need to press the character's corresponding button in order to attack. Press the character's button again to perform his/her second attack. Each character has a maximum of three attacks except for spellcasters that can only do one. ~ A T T A C K G A U G E ~ -------------------------- [BAS002] The ally/enemy's HP will be displayed in the bottom screen (green bar) and there is also a blue gauge that is filled up for every successful hit. Upon reaching 100, players with SPECIAL ATTACKS can perform a powerful finishing move. If the gauge is filled up to a hundred again, you may connect another special attack. You can perform up to four consecutive special attacks, as long as the gauge is full after the last combo is finished. Special attacks are unique to each character and can only be enabled if the weapon equipped allows the character to do so. With this in mind, you may consider keeping a slightly weaker weapon that will allow you to perform special attacks than equipping a slightly stronger one with higher base atk rating. ~ L I N K I N G A T T A C K S ~ -------------------------------- [BAS003] The game's battle system has a slight change. Now your party and the enemies can link attacks. You can use this against your advantage or enemies can exploit this to your disadvantage. If your character attacks an enemy, all your allies that has the enemy in their attack range can link up with your attack to deal devastating damage. In the other hand, all the enemies that has the attacking character(s) within range can retaliate. Characters capable of retaliating will have an exclamation point over their heads. Scenario 1.1: Heroes attack For example, Swordsman A gets in range to attack Swordsman B. Swordsman A's buddies, Sorcerer A and Archer A also has Swordsman B in their range. Once Swordsman A confirms the attack, all three of them (the "A" team) can gang up against Swordsman. Scenario 1.2: Targeted enemy defends (attacking hero is in attack range) Now using the same scenario, Swordsman B has his own buddies behind him. Archer B and Mage B. If Swordsman B dies, then there will be no retaliation, even if Archer B and Mage B has Swordsman A in their sights. However, if Swordsman B endures the attack, he may retaliate against Swordsman A. Scenario 1.3: Targeted enemy defends (attacking hero is NOT in attack range) Now using the same scenario again, let's switch Swordsman B and Archer B. Since Swordsman A is attacking just beside Archer B, he can't retaliate since its an archer's blind spot. If Archer B survives the attack, he can retaliate not against Swordsman A but against Archer A or Sorcerer A, whoever is in his attack range (or its his choice) Scenario 1.4: Ranged attack (hero) For example, Swordsman A has finished his turn and his target is killed. However, Warrior B is within Swordsman A's range. It's Archer A's turn and he targets Warrior B. Even if Swordsman A just finished his attack, he can still link with Archer B's attack since Warrior B is within his range as well. If Warrior B survives the attack, he won't be retaliating against Archer B because he's out of range. He will retaliate to the enemy unit that participated in the link that is closest to him. In this case, its Swordsman A. The same logic applies when enemies attack as well. The general rule of thumb? DO NOT LET THE ENEMIE SURROUND YOU. Even if they do, try to keep your team together; in a sense that they can provide covering fire when you attack or counterattack. Also remember that if you attack an enemy from the sides or behind, you'll have a high chance of stunning him/her. Stunned characters CANNOT RETALIATE. ~ S I E G E A T T A C K S ~ --------------------------- [BAS004] When you flank an enemy unit and engage it in a battle, your party can perform raid attacks. Raid attacks garner more bonuses such as increased loot and increased attack gauge. ~ B A T T L E S P O I L S ~ ----------------------------- [BAS005] Whenever an enemy is defeated, living members of the party will earn experience points and oth (game's currency) Every enemy has a BASE EXP that can be increased by collecting MAGIC CRYSTALS. Magic Crystals are dropped by enemies during combat, if you hit them in mid-air. Sometimes enemies drop items and tomes too, especially defeated bosses. ~ A C T I O N P O I N T S ~ ----------------------------- [BAS006] Using items, casting spells and using tactics consume AP or Action Points. Characters recover 10 AP per turn and 20 AP if they HOLD POSITION. AP Cost for using items, spells or tactics depends on them as well. For example, a basic tactic or a recovery item will only cost 10 AP to use compared to an 80 AP tactic that you can only use one in a battle. ~ T A C T I C S ~ ------------------- [BAS007] Tactics are learned by Wylfred by INVOKING his non-guest allies or (More details will be provided later on) simply purchasing tomes from shops. Use that tome to a character and the character will learn that tactic permanently. Tomes are expendable so if you want your other characters to learn a specific tactic, you must use the corresponding tome per character. Tomes are also dropped as spoils for defeating enemies ~ T E C H N I Q U E S ~ ------------------------ [BAS008] These are basically skills that you can equip your characters. Techniques are activated during battle, mostly at the start of combat. Techniques won't always trigger but when they do, characters gain the benefits they provide for the entire battle. Techniques, unlike tactics must be EQUIPPED or SET before their effects can be utilized. However, you can't just freely equip them. Characters will have a starting CP which is increased everytime they level up. Techniques vary in CP cost. Just think CP as your "skill slots". So, if your character's CP is 15, he can equip any technique that costs 15CP below. To equip two skills with 15 and 10 CP costs respectively, the character should have 25 CPs available. HP recovery and Stat increasing techniques are recommended early on. ~ S I N S ~ ------------- [BAS009] This is a new mechanic in the game which serves as a "quota" players meet for every main battle. Wylfred's power is blessed from darkness, thus, extinguishing life is one of his means of increasing it. This is primarily for the delight of Lady Hel who gave the power. Meet the required amount of sin, and you'll obtain your reward at the end of the battle. To obtain sin, you must continue attacking a downed enemy, even after his/her HP drops to zero. The word "OVERKILL" will appear over the enemy's HP gauge and it will fill up with a purple bar, indicating the damage you dealt after the enemy's death. Remember that it doesn't correspond the exact damage you've dealt (1000 total damage is not equal to 1000 sin) and when even with the Overkill gauge full, the maximum amount you can obtain is 100 sin per enemy only. To collect sin effectively, don't go all out on an enemy that has high HP. Deal damage to him/her until his/her HP is critical or low enough that your attacks or combo can "pass through". Chaining special attacks is also a sure way to get the full 100 sin from an enemy. Alternately, invoking an ally using the Destiny Plume will net a huge amount of sin as well. Collect as many sin as you can during the entire battle to earn more and better rewards. ~ I N V O K E ~ --------------- [BAS010] For the past games, Valkyrie acquires new allies by taking the worthy dead's souls, training them and sending them to Asgard. In this game, there will be certain times that you must INVOKE a non-guest ally to unlock that character's true potential. Invoking an ally basically means you're sacrificing that character's soul. It is the very essence of the game after all. In other words, you'll be killing your allies to continue your journey. After using the power of the feather to an ally, that character's unique tactic activates immediately, will turn to color red and all stats will be increased at least 10 times. This will really turn the tide of the battle to your favor but prepare to lose that character after the battle. Once an invoked ally dies, his/her equipment will be returned to your inventory. However, any tactics, spells or techniques you taught him/her won't turn back to tomes (obviously) so they'll be gone forever as well. Thought it may be possible to win a major battle without invoking an ally, it will be dauntingly hard, that may take hours and a lot of items for you to get through. Besides, an invoked character will let Wyl inherit their unique tactic permanently. ~ L O R E S ~ ------------- [BAS011] Sadly, there are not that many "free" battle/locations you can use for level grinding. There are optional locations that can be unlocked by visiting the tavern and reading the lore with an exclamation point. These battles doesn't have any sin requirement but beware, the enemies can be really tough. You can also learn more about different stuff happening in the game's world by reading various news and posts from the tavern. _______________________________________________________________________________ W A L K T H R O U G H ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ O'er the battle grim The valkyrie presides Brave souls upon her wings To Asgard forth she rides Minions of the Gods, Einherjar dubbed are they In Valhalla toasting every night the battles of each day "the chooser of the slain" "Battle Maiden" be her names, Yet others has the valkyrie, to those whose kin she claims To the widows and orphans An Angel of Death is she The theif of their beloved The accursed valkyrie And so begins a tale of vengeance and betrayal Destiny by sinner thought Tragedy by power wrought _______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ P R O L O G U E ************************** [PRO000] + AULLEWYN KEEP + ----------------- You'll be in your first battle. Just read the tutorials. Try to learn how to chain attacks now since you'll be doing that for the rest of the game. Use items as necessary. After defeating the first wave of enemies, the boss (Ghoul) will appear. It won't move from its position so its up to you guys to approach it. Wait until all your allies are within range before attacking the boss. Huegoe deals the most damage so make sure to get to full special attack gauge (100) and have him perform his finishing strike. You'll be taken to the world map after the battle. Save your game if you want. Enter the keep again when ready. You can check some lores from the tavern but nothing may pique your interest. The shop doesn't carry any new inventory so just resupply if you need it. Select the option to "Enter the garrison" to proceed with the story. There will be another battle. Kill all the enemies (Kobold x2, Dire Wolf x2) and a scene will trigger. ************************** Dark Blessing shall the destiny plume upon the kindred bring The force that summons victory the vessel's blood to wring Each life consumed, shall stain the feather dark and darker black Thus shall be forged the Angel Slayer valkyrie to wrack One year has thou to consumnate this deed Else Garm, Hel's hound On thy soul shall feed. ************************** After the scene, Wyl will have access to a new power (feather icon). Activate it and use it on Ancel to invoke him. Once done, attack the boss and you should win easily. More scenes will follow and you'll meet the mysterious yet alluring Ailyth. You'll be prompted to save your data afterwards. _______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ CHAPTER 1: TIES THAT BIND *************************** [WLKC01] Watch the scenes. At the start of the chapter, you'll be in another battle. A young assassin named Cheripa will join you as a guest unit. Since there isn't any major changes you can do yet, select engage. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN REQUIRED: 50 REWARDS: The Art of First Aid x2, Apothecary's Arcanum x2, Flare Gem ENEMIES: Archeress, Sorceress, Swordsman The archeress won't make a move unless you get to her range. In this case, use Cheripa's range to damage the enemy at a distance (targeting the swordsman will be easier since there will be no retaliation, unlike the sorceress and the archeress) then move Wyl to attack range and link Cheripa's attack. By default, both of you will have two attacks each so try to learn the correct timing between your characters to build a special attack gauge faster (which is useless for the meantime) or to shake the enemy mid-air and drop some magic crystals. You may get some free equipment here like Viking Sword and Suede Boots to be dropped by enemies. Defeat all enemies in order to proceed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watch the scenes and you'll be taken back to the world map. Use the new tomes you acquired and use it to Wyl and Cheripa if you wish. A new location (Market Marleigh) will be available as well. Save your game and proceed there. + MARKET MARTEIGH + ------------------- Check some new lores in the Tavern if you wish. Check some new items in the shop. Upgrade your party's equipment and get some new tomes if you can afford it. ____________ | SHOP ITEMS \ +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | ARMS | ARMOR | ACC | +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Viking Sword 1200 | Sallet 700 | Poison Check 2000 | | Long Sword 200 | Chainmail 2200 | | | Crossbow 220 | Cloak 200 | | | | Leather Armor 300 | | +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | OTHER | +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Way of Provocation 1000 (AP-10, Target enemy attacks user) | | Way of Pacification 1000 (AP-10, Target enemy avoids user) | | Warrior's Arcanum 200 (AP-20, +300HP/ally) | | Union Plume 1200 (AP-30, Revive ally) | | Honeysuckle Dew 150 (AP-10, Cure poison) | +----------------------------------------------------------------+ After shopping, exit to the world map. Kirche Crossing will be available. Save your game and enter it to proceed with the story. + KIRCHE CROSSING + ------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN REQUIRED: 130 REWARDS: Union Plume x3, Elixir x2 ENEMIES: Archeress x2, Swordsman x2, Warrior x2, Lockswell (mage) The warrior and swordsman guarding Lockswell will not move until you attack or get in their attack range. What you need to do is move your characters to one side of the battlefield and attempt to eliminate the archeress there. You need to do this to avoid getting trapped in the middle of two archeresses' line of fire. Don't hesitate to use items as needed and make sure to make every hit count. The warrior is an up-close melee unit that has more damage resistance and HP compared to the typical swordsman so you'll need to concentrate your attacks on that. The enemies will most likely target Cheripa so make sure to keep her HP up and eliminate those archeresses as soon as possible. Don't use vali's Awakening until you face Lockswell because you'll really need it to defeat him. Once you eliminate the initial forces, approach Lockswell's group slowly. Make sure that Wyl is in the front line and you have healed everybody's HP. Have Cheripa snipe one of the guards, preferably the swordsman and wait for him to approach you. Kill the two guards, activate Vali's Awakening, and attack Lockswell. You should be able to take him down within two turns, before the effects of the awakening wears off. It's a problem if you prolong the battle since he can heal 80% of his HP with his spell and his Fire Storm attack does deal a considerable damage to your characters as well. Try to attack him from behind or the sides to daze him. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- + MARKET MARTEIGH + ------------------- Watch the following scenes after the battle. Cheripa and Lockswell will join your party (you now have two sacrificial lambs). Save your game and return to Market Marleigh. Select "JOURNEY TO THE SHIRE" to proceed with the story. You'll be taken back to the world map. Torque will be available as well. Visit it for a scene. _______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ It was at that time that peasant uprisings began to beset Artolia. The foremost of them centered around the town of Camille, whose serfs had been hit hardest by famine. The crown responded to the threat by dispatching a hastily assembled suppression brigade from Aullewyn keep. The troops were expected to crush the opposition with alacrity. But the rebels resisted. Their ranks were armed and organized beyond any means conceivable for serfs, removing all shadow of doubt they garner the support of an invisible hand. And so, Wylfred set forth toward the chaos of battle, hoping it would bring him closer to the Valkyrie and his revenge _______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Three locations will be unlocked. This is actually the first branch in the game's storyline. Depending on which location you choose, the allies you acquire, the story and the battles you'll fight will be different. I will be covering each branch and try to arrange them in a non-perplexing way as possible. Hroete Walk - (Chapter 2A: Shadows in the Darkness) Camille - (Chapter 2B: Right of Way) Aullewyn Keep - (Chapter 2C: Stranger's Reunion) _______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ CHAPTER 2A: SHADOWS IN THE DARKNESS *********************************** [WLKC2A] + HROETHE WALK + ---------------- Watch the short scene. Two guests will join your party: Darius and Gwerdal. Select your third and fourth member and engage when ready. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN REQUIRED: 200 REWARDS: Fire Talisman x2, Rune Helm, Dwarf Tincture x2, Apothecary's Arcanum x2 Elixir, Guard Potion ENEMIES: Skullfish x3, Giant Bat x4, Aello (L) This should be an easy battle, especially with Gwerdal in the party. As always, don't spread your forces too far out. The should be able to support each other. The good thing is the enemies won't be aggressive enough to move towards your position unless you get too close or you attack them. Use this to your advantage by defeating the enemies nearby and move towards their leader slowly yet surely. Expect heavy damage from the leader; don't attack it unless you do so from its blind spot to avoid unnecessary retaliatory damage. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the battle, Camille will be available. Save your game and enter the town. + CAMILLE + ----------- Check out the new lores. Selecting the (!) Curse of Camille Hill will unlock an optional battlefield called Camille Highlands. You can fight the enemies there to earn extra oth and experience. Other than that, there isn't anything special tactic(s) needed to win this battle so you can play at your pace. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- + CAMILLE + ----------- Select "TOUR REBEL CAMP" to proceed. A battle will initiate afterwards. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN REQUIRED: 380 REWARDS: Spell Potion x2, Falchion ENEMIES: Warrior x2, Archer, Lancer x2, Swordswoman x2, Sorcerer (L) The objective of this battle is to defeat the enemy leader (sorcerer). Like your first fight for this chapter, the enemies won't approach you unless you get close to them or attack them. Kill the enemies that you can get within your range and work your way to lower ground. The sorcerer doesn't have that much RDM so you can easily finish him off with a full combo and a special attack. You may refrain finishing him off completely and leaving a minuscule amount of HP if you are after filling up the sin gauge on your next combo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watch the following scene. Once in control, exit to the world map and save your game. Return to Camille, prepare for another battle and select "GO TO NATALIA" when ready. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN REQUIRED: 200 REWARDS: Treasure Hunter (drop), Flare Crystal x2, The Way of the Martyr's Cry x2 ENEMIES: Lancer x2, Sorcerer x3, Pickpocket, Natalia (L) This battle isn't basically hard; just annoying. First, you must avoid placing your characters on the purple muck or they'll lose HP every turn. Also, you start the battle surrounded. Mages tend to use Poison Blow as their main attack spell so having Poison Checks equipped should prevent your characters from being poisoned. These mages also use Suspend Motion which will prevent the inflicted character from acting; basically, you'll really need to concentrate on taking out the mages first so they won't cause you any trouble. The lancers will most likely target your mage or archer first so make sure you keep them healed as needed. Natalia will start approaching your party after a few turns so you don't need to approach her at all. Natalia is rather strong and can use special attacks, even with her own combo alone - something you should expect from bosses. You may want to save your ace tactic, Vali's Awakening during the last turns when you're ready to deal the killing blow to her. It is most likely that nobody can endure her attacks and can clearly wipe out everybody if you let her so make sure you make your attacks count (she can use her combo and special attack as a counterattack as well) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watch the scenes after the battle. Gwerdal and Darius will now be full-pledged members of your party. Ailyth will inform you to return home so return to the world map and find that Torque is available. + TOURQUE + ----------- Watch the scenes and you'll be asked to save. This chapter has ended. Because of this branch, chapter 3 will start differently. Next chapter: (Chapter 3A: Bitter End) _______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ CHAPTER 2B: RIGHT OF WAY ************************** [WLKC2B] You'll start the battle immediately and since you only have Lockswell as your new member, don't forget to include him in your active party. + CAMILLE + ----------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN REQUIRED: 320 REWARDS: Dwarf Tincture x2, Apothecary's Arcanum x2, Elixir x2, Guard Potion x2 ENEMIES: Swordsman x2, Lancer x2, Archer x2, Warrior x2, Sorceress x2 Winning this battle may take time and careful planning to avoid getting flanked from all sides. Engage the enemies closest to your position, defeat them, move closer and heal your party. Repeat this basic process until you whittle the enemy forces. Fortunately, the enemies here won't be that agressive to approach your positions so you will have the freedom to engage enemies at your own will. As usual, you may want to save Wylf's Vali's Awakening tactic near the end of the battle to dispatch the remaining forces. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- You'll be taken back to the world map afterwards. You may save your game and enter Camille. + CAMILLE + ----------- Don't forget to restock and upgrade your equipment. Try to get some new tomes as well for your characters to learn techs and tactics. Check the tavern for some new lores, including the one involving Camille Hill. Exiting to the world map will unlock the optional location. + CAMILLE HIGHLANDS + --------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN REQUIRED: 0 REWARDS: ??? ENEMIES: Aello x2, Ghost x2, Battle Beetle Note that the ghosts doesn't have elevation limit so they can go down from the cliff to reach your characters. Other than that, there isn't anything special tactic(s) needed to win this battle so you can play at your pace. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- + CAMILLE + ----------- Back in Camille, select "TOUR REBEL CAMP" to proceed with the story. During the events, Natalia and Ernest will join the party as guests. Ernest's stats are slightly higher compared to Natalia. Natalia however, has a larger movement range so she can easily get into enemy positions and hold the position for your archer and mage to initiate a linked attack. In the deployment screen, don't forget to include one or both of them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN REQUIRED: 270 REWARDS: Spell Potion x2, Falchion, The Art of First Aid (enemy drop) ENEMIES: Lancer, Cutpurse x2, Warrior, Sorcerer, Darius (L) You must avoid placing your characters on the purple muck or they'll lose HP every turn. The enemy lineup isn't that hard, especially with able fighters in your team. Darius won't move from his position unless you get too near so apply the basic strategy of killing the lesser henchmen. Once they're defeated, carefully approach Darius and activate Wylf's Vali's Awakening to get his attention. Remember that Darius' attacks are quite devastating so make sure the attacking character has full HP or better yet, attack him from the sides or rear to daze him and prevent him from retaliating. The battle will end once you defeat all enemies in this area. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to the world map to discover Aullewyn Keep. Natalia will leave the party temporarily. Make sure to restock and upgrade your party's equipment as needed. Don't forget to save as well. + AULLEWYN KEEP + ----------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN REQUIRED: 250 REWARDS: Rune Crown, Treasure Hunter, The Way of Martyr's Cry Prime Elixir, Flare Crystal, Expert's Experience The Art of Grave Blessing (enemy drop) ENEMIES: Lancer x2, Archeress x2, Swordsman x2, Sorcereress, Heugoe (L) One of the conditions to not fail this mission is to keep Natalia alive. Her starting position is ways off from the team's, so you have no choice but to push through the enemy blockade and rescue her. The only problem as well is that one of the lancers guarding her will try to attack her every turn. Unfortunately, Natalia will also start attacking the guard assigned, resulting in unnecessary retaliatory damage. Due to the nature of the battle, you may consider invoking the plume and sacrificing an ally. Since you can only choose between Lockswell and Cheripa, you may consider picking the latter since her unique tactic (Gleipnir's Bonds) can paralyze all non-leader enemies in the area. This will give you a few free turns to easily push through and kill the enemies along the way for some easy sin. Reaching Natalia's position may be very challenging without the help on an invoked ally but if you managed to do so without invoking the plume, then you must be an outstanding tactician. As the boss of this battle, Huegoe is a huge threat but with an invoked ally, you should be able to take him down single-handedly. Reaching Natalia's position won't be an automatic victory to you; you must defeat all enemies to end the battle. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the battle, Natalia and Ernest will join your party permanently. Ailyth will inform you to return home so return to the world map and find that Torque is available. + TOURQUE + ----------- Watch the scenes and you'll be asked to save. This chapter has ended. Ernest attacks unforgivingly; he can attack thrice and then immediately follow up a devastating special attack. It is almost impossible to endure that combo even with upgraded gears. You must also try defeating the sorceress since it can heal herself AND Ernest. Invoking an ally really makes a difference and will quickly turn the tide of this battle. First, you wouldn't worry about the sin requirement anymore (it will be automatically filled when you activate the destiny plume) and you can easily rush the enemy lines and gain more sin by overkilling them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watch the following scenes. The two hellhounds can easily daze your characters, giving them no chance to counterattack. Since they are the closest, you may want to eliminate them first. The Fire Bat will approach you guys but it is not that hard so you can just ignore it. Lastly, the leader won't go down unless its attacked so try to use long ranged attacks or spells to convince it to go down. Once surrounded, you can just simply beat the hell out of this leader. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ushio will decide to tag along but he will still be a guest unit. You need to work fast since she starts the battle surrounded. You can't control her unfortunately so you'll need to advance and position your characters so they can support each other. It is almost impossible for her to survive the second round because the enemies will most likely gang up on her. Unfortunately, you may need to sacrifice/ invoke somebody again for this battle. Another alternative is to get the enemies' attention by using Vali's Awakening at the start of the battle; however, the enemies will still most likely concentrate on Rosea. One possible candidate for invocation is Cheripa, because her pact paralyzes all enemies for a few turns. In any case, any character will do, as long as you managed to divert the enemies' attention to your party and leave Rosea alone. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Artolian Pass will be unlocked. Of course, there's a battle waiting in this location so make sure to prepare your party for two straight battles. + ARTOLIAN PASS + ----------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN REQUIRED: 250 REWARDS: The Art of Body Steel, Might Potion, Witch's Arcanum ENEMIES: Lizard Man x3, Ocypete x2, Dragon Rosea will join you as a guest for this battle. Expect very aggressive enemies in this battle. The ocypetes, which has longer attack and move range will always try to move in assist the sturdy lizard men in thier assault. It will only take two of these to fully kill a character. You may want to think twice before invoking anybody here; you need that someone in the next battle after this. Just try to hold your position and don't spread your characters far too out. You will probably need a lot of Union Plumes here. Just position your "soft" characters like your archers/mages away from enemy's attack range but just enough to support your frontline characters. To do this, you may consider pulling your troops in one side of the field and draw them in. You guys will just be sitting ducks in the open. Just keep pummeling one enemy at a time to ensure complete victory. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watch the scenes and another battle will take place. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN REQUIRED: 200 REWARDS: Art of Diminishing Missile x2, Art of Knockout Blow x2, Martyr's Cry x2 Ambrosia, Sacred Crystal x2 ENEMIES: Living Armor x2, Daemon x2, Liesolette This is where you'll need to invoke somebody. The normal enemies can be easily taken care off since the path is narrow and they won't move to your position until you get in their attack range. Liesolette however, won't be defeated easily. Aside from her high magical damage, she can use a special attack (or great magick) on her own. This is rather dangerous since there is absolutely nobody can withstand that attack. If you still have Lockswell, then his pact will save you a lot of time in this battle. His pact can silence all enemies, including leaders like Liesolette. Once Silenced, Liesolette can't do anything and will just wait for you to slaughter her. If you don't have Lockswell, you can still invoke anybody; just make sure that that character attacks Liesolette to ensure that she'll be defeated immediately. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watch more scenes. Ushio will then join the party. However, you should be careful since Toxic Flowers are more powerful versions of the Mandragoras. Immediately gang up the nearest Toxic Flower but keep your healer or archer in the stairs to provide support and avoid getting targeted. Prioritize keeping your frontliners' HP up since the enemies will always attempt to target one of your allies at a time. The living armor shouldn't be that hard to take with all your party members targeting it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- + GRENNSEN CITADEL + -------------------- Once back in the Citadel, exit to the world map and save your game. Since this is the last battle in this chapter and it is equally hard, you may consider invoking somebody in this battle. If you have Cheripa or Huegoe, then they should be (unfortunately) your prime choices here. Since your objective is to rescue Auguste and Reinhilde, you'll be forced to push through the enemy ranks to reach them. The two will fight back but they won't hold long if you don't make it to their position. Another bad news is that the enemies will attempt to rush the couple so you'll need to defeat as much enemies as possible as you make your advance. This will prove to be challenging, thanks to the very resilient Iron Golem that is blocking your straight path. You won't have that much of a choice since making a detour will make you lose a precious turn or two and will make it longer for you to reach the besieged elders. Thanks to whoever you'll be invoking, he/she can easily defeat the iron golem and allow you to move forward without any hassles. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watch the following scenes. Be warned though; don't get too near the Griffin without eliminating its minions. It can fly and ignore any terrain limitations. Another thing is that its attacks can freeze your characters so you should bring a good supply of Thaw Waters. The Griffin is not that hard to defeat, as long as you have everybody targeting it. Battle ends once all enemies are defeated. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- + THE CROWN CITY + ------------------ Return to the Crown City afterwards and "Attend Castle". After some relatively short scenes, head back to the World Map to unlock Wintergard. Save your game and enter it. + WINTERGARD + -------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN: 350 REWARDS: Bronllavyn, Art of Crystal Call, Way of Regeneration, Arondight, Spirit Tincture, Golden Egg ENEMIES: Swordswoman x2, Sorceress, Noble vampire, Soul of Tears, Lizard Knight Elite Archer (L) Eliminate the swordswomen first. Now if you rotate your map, you should notice that there are two possible entrances. The easiest probably is through the wall where the sorceress is positioned. Also, for some reason, the snowfield will restrict your movements, making it harder to reach your targets. Fortunately, you should be able to walk normally within the inner walls. The Soul of Tears will be aggressive enough to attack your party and cast nasty spells, including a group-inflicting "silence" spell. Use Bragi's Song to your mage, as its their only way of attacking. Eliminate it as soon as it approaches your party. Make way to the inner walls, and attempt to eliminate the leader. The Lizard Knights, for some reason won't be that aggressive and will either hold their positions or turn away from your team. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Artolian Mountains will be unlocked. Save your game and resupply as needed before trekking to the next battlefield. + ARTOLIAN MOUNTAINS + ---------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN: 350 REWARDS: Art of Magic Mail, Caliburn, Power Bangle, Poison Crystal x2 ENEMIES: Archer x2, Warrior, Queenpin, Swordsman x2, Sorcerer, Roienbourg (L) The objective of this battle is to defeat Roienbourg. Kristoff will be fighting alongside with you but you don't have any control over him. The terrain is long and narrow so you can bottleneck enemies and provide support to your allies. Make sure your character's attack ranges overlap each other so that they can perform sieges and combination attacks as needed. Like the other "boss" battles you have fought before, you may be forced to invoke somebody in order to win so if you don't want to sacrifice a member of your main battle party, bring in a reserved party member and invoke him/her at the start of the battle. If you a mage in your party, you may want to use buffs to your characters and use Sap Guard against Roienbuourgh. Also, don't spread your characters too wide out or you'll have problems supporting each other. Roienbourg is capable of using his special attack after a combo so it will really be extremely hard, if not impossible, to defeat him without having an invoked party member in your current party. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- After this battle, spend all your money in upgrading your main party's equipment and getting all the necessary support/ healing/ recovery items since the next battles will be continuous and you won't have any chance to save your game in a while so treat each battle seriously - one mistake will mean wasting hours of careful planning and hardwork. When ready, head to Aidelrave. + AIDELRAVE + ------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN: 350 REWARDS: Empress Coronet, Cloak of Britannia, Art of Counterattack, Way of Mana Surge, Ether Greaves, Noble Elixir ENEMIES: Sorcerer (L), Skeletal Soldier, Warrior, Swordswoman x2, Iron Golem, Sorcerer, Greater Daemon, Lancer This battle is pretty generic. Don't advance too far without ganging up and defeating the nearest enemies, one at a time. The ideal party would be two long-ranged characters, Wylfred and another short-medium range character (lancers such as Huegoe and Ernest) if you have them. Otherwise, you may need to resort to a mage, an archer, Wylfred and another frontline fighter. Make sure to make every turn count; if your characters can't attack, use that turn to use support items such as stat-increasing potions or use support tactics. If you have invoked a few characters before, then you should have a good number of unique tactics for Wylfred - put them to good use and you'll be able to turn the tide of this battle to your favor. Defeating the leader will end this battle immediately but I suggest that if you can, sweep all enemies and defeat them you'll need all the experience you can get to increase your characters levels. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- + BAILEY + ---------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN: 350 REWARDS: Starguard, Demon Hands, Basilisk's Gaze, Expert's Experience, Ambrosia, Art of Diminish Missile, Sacred Crystal x2 ENEMIES: Archer x2, Swordswoman x3, Warrior, Sorcerer, Sorcerer (L) The enemies here start in strategically placed positions so plan ahead and examine the enemies' attack ranges before moving your characters. This will ensure that they won't get pummeled by multiple enemy sieges and combination attacks. Take out enemies one at a time while keeping distance from their attack ranges. Protect your mages/archers since they will be the primary targets. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- + INNER WARD + -------------- SIN: 350 REWARDS: Arectaris, Blue Gale, Caduceaus, Sylph Robe, Noble Elixir, Sage's Arcanum ENEMIES: Noble Vampire, Soul of Tears x2, Red Dragon, Sorcerer x3, Opinicus, Spectral Knight, Langrey This is another boss battle; which means you'll need to invoke another ally. Langrey is a mage that can use a special attack or great magic per turn, even when counterattacking. This battlefield is divided to four small sections. The first section is guarded by a Noble Vampire. The dark haze on the floor deals damage to any character standing on it at the end of the turn. The second area is guarded by a couple of annoying ghosts that can cast area spells and sometimes inflict status ailments. The Red Dragon is your main problem in the second area since it is pretty tough and can kill your characters if you're not careful. Similar to the first section, any characters standing on the glowing glyph on the floor will sustain damage at the end of the turn. The third section is guarded by a griffin-type beast and some pesky mages. Concentrate in taking out the Sorcerers then finally the Opinicus. In the last section, defeat the last sorcerer and carefully draw the Spectral Knight towards your party; you don't want Langrey killing your team mates while dealing with this very resilient piece of live metal. Concentrate in dealing with Langrey, which should be pretty easy if you let your invoked ally to land the finishing blows and special attack. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- + DUNGEON PATH + ---------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SIN: 450 REWARDS: Osafune, Imanotsurugi, Expert's Experience x2, Material Earring, Spirit Tincture x2, Goddess Tincture x2 ENEMIES: Warrior x3, Archer x2, Sorcerer x2, Swordswoman x3 You should be disappointed to see this battle after surviving a hellish experience in the previous fight. Just win this battle and you should be able to save your game. Langrey will join your party as a very, short-lived guest so I won't suggest deploying him unless you don't have sufficient characters in your main party. The area is narrow so you can set up a bottleneck position with your characters. Fortunately, most of the enemies here won't attack unless you get in their range. Like the previous battles, make every turn count. Compared to the previous battles, this one should be a bit easier. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following battles are the final battles in the game so make sure to save your game and use any Golden Egg or Expert's Experience you may be keeping in your inventory. Check and double check your party's equipment, skills, etc. Just a warning, you won't be able to invoke any characters during the next battles so you don't have a choice but to rely on your party's brute force and your strategic prowess. + HOUSE OF THE FORSAKEN + ------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENEMIES: Valkyrie (L), Einjerhar Sorceress x2, E. Swordswoman x2, E. Lancer x2, E. Archer, E. Warrior x2 Expect a tough fight ahead. Each of the normal enemies here are really tough and dangerous. Fortunately, you can take this battle at your own pace by taking them out one at a time. They won't rush to your position so take your time buffing your party members with items and spells. As mentioned, you can't invoke an ally here so you'll need to carefully plan your attacks and advance. The good news however, is that you don't need to concentrate on getting "Overkills" - which means you can simply attack all out without worrying about getting as much damage as possible after an enemy's HP reaches zero. Though the objective states that you must defeat the Valkyrie, you won't be able to do so since a scene automatically takes place as soon as her HP plummets around 25-30%. You may want to consider saving your best tactic when facing Valkyrie. Watch the scenes and the second part of the battle will start. + HOUSE OF THE FORSAKEN + ------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENEMIES: Archer x2, Sorcerer x2, Thyodor Prepare your team and engage when ready. Though smaller in numbers, this batch of enemies can easily cover each other so make sure to eliminate the nearest ones at the soonest time possible. Thyodor's movement range isn't that long so you can use that to hit him from afar and position your support units far enough to hit him. Thyodor's attacks are very damaging so don't expect anybody to survive after he starts his combo. Just like the last time, don't hesitate to use any powerful items you have in your inventory and do everything you can to make sure you get the most out of every turn. Unleash Wylfred's best offensive tactic and connect as many special attacks as possible to defeat Thyodor. Watch the following scenes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONGRATULATIONS FOR FINISHING THE GAME! _______________________________________________________________________________ C H A R A C T E R G U I D E ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ NOTE: Special attacks of mages depend on what spell is currently equipped to them.
