This is NOT Top Trumps as it usually plays since those games are based purely on chance. There is a fair amount of strategy in this one, and although there are no cut-scenes or voices, the real Doctor Who music is featured, and all the cards are based on the current BBC Doctor Who series. Though of course, as any Doctor Who fan would know, this series features the 10th regenerated Time Lord, and both The Doctor and the music made their first appearance on the BBC in 1963. Just like the programmes, this game is seriously addicting, well-designed and loads of fun. This FAQ deconstructs the whole game, and will help you to achieve the goal of 100% completion. The game has also been released for the PS2 and PC. Although I have only played the DS version I know that the basics are the same, although the controls are different. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Table of Contents ................................ T H E C O N T R O L S =============================================================================== The game is played with the DS turned to one side and you must use the stylus for everything. You play against the computer which controls the left screen, and you tap in all your choices on the right screen. If you press the START button at any time during play you have the option to QUIT and to save your game. You can also check the description of any Ability Cards you are using on this screen, and then CONTINUE to play. All other DS controls are not used. =============================================================================== 2. T H E M A I N M E N U =============================================================================== You will see a Hub of six options around the central HELP. o--------o o--------| Single |-------o | Multi | Player | Mini | | Player |--------| Games | |--------| HELP |-------| | Halls |--------|Options| |of Time | Data | | o--------| Core |-------o o--------o ---- HELP ---- As you would expect, this option will give you access to the game's help pages. This is a summary of the advice given. o The aim of the game is to win all cards, and you win the opponent's card if the category you select from your top card has a higher value than theirs. o If there is a draw, then you carry on playing until someone wins a round and they take the pile of draw cards as well. o More characters and Ability Cards are unlocked as you win more games. o Every character has a Special Ability and you must fill the meter to use this ability. o Every win will fill the meter up a bit more: the higher the difference between the two values of the cards, the more the meter will be filled. ------------- SINGLE PLAYER ------------- There are two more options: 1. Adventure Mode Adventure Mode is the main game and this is described in full in the Guide. 2 Quick Play Quick Play gives you two more options: o Classic Rules After the first round of the main game you will unlock Classic Rules. This game does not involve any power-ups or ability cards. o Adventure Rules Adventure Rules plays in the same way as the main game with the power bar and ability cards. Both of these games will only give you two characters to start with: the Doctor and Slitheen. You can unlock four more during the main game. If you choose "Random" in selecting characters, you can play as the Doctor against the Doctor! After you complete the Adventure Mode you can play either Quick Play game with all characters and Ability Cards unlocked, and with the full pack of 38 cards. ------------ MULTI PLAYER ------------ You can only use this option if there is another physical player with another DS. ---------- MINI GAMES ---------- At the start there is only one game available: Hi/Lo. More will be unlocked as you proceed and these are the same as the Bonus Rounds in the main game. They are: Hi/Lo, Cyber Sequence, Interrogation and Memory Matrix. ------------- HALLS OF TIME ------------- This is where you can see your scores for all games. At first only Adventure Mode, Quick Play and Hi/Lo are available. After completing one game, if you start another game on a different Save File, (using a different name) the scores for the other game/s will be shown in the Halls of Time, so you can compare them if you want. However, you will only have access to the scores for the areas that are unlocked. You can have up to FOUR save files for different games with different names and thus compare scores, so long as you select a different name for the different save files. o---------o o---------|Adventure|--------o | Memory | Mode | Quick | | Matrix |---------| Play | |---------| |--------| | Cyber |---------|Interro | | Sequence| Hi/Lo |-gation | o---------| Core |--------o o---------o --------- DATA CORE --------- There are two pages each showing 19 cards (38 in total) and all details for every card, including additional information, from the Doctor Who series, about each one if you select MORE to read the left screen. At the start of the Adventure Game all these cards are blank and obscured with a question mark. You will have unlocked 30 cards by the time you have completed the Adventure Mode and 8 more when you score highly in the Mini-Games. You win 2 cards for each Mini-Game. ------- OPTIONS ------- This screen will give three options: 1. Game Options These options are for the Quick Play games and they will change the game depending on what you select. If you set a time limit then you will lose if you have less cards than your opponent when the time expires. o Draw Card Rules enabled or not. If you set this option, then during play the category for your next card will be selected automatically to be the same as the last round. If it is not set then you can choose whichever category you want. o Set a time for the game: Off, 3 minutes, 5 minutes or 7 minutes. If you leave this option OFF then each game will last until one or other side wins. 2. Audio Options Adjust the Music Volume Level and SFX Volume Level: 1 - 5 3. Credits See the credits for the game. =============================================================================== 3. H O W T O P L A Y : S T A R T I N G A N D Q U I T T I N G =============================================================================== At the start select a three letter name for yourself, and this name will show on the score screen. Then tap Single Player from the Main Menu, and then Adventure Mode. This will take you to the first World and the first battle: which is The Doctor versus Slitheen. You can QUIT (the red option at the top of the right screen), or tap NEXT. This takes you to the Ability Card select screen. You only have two cards for now, so take them both, and then choose NEXT. If at any time in later matches, you don't like the selection you made, then tap BACK to exit this screen, and then NEXT again to make a new selection. Finally tap NEXT after viewing the screen showing your character and your opponent with their card selection. This starts the Adventure Mode. DEFEAT IS NOT AN OPTION! Well, in fact it is: if you lose a round then you have the choice to continue or quit. Simply play the round again until you win. If you lose the Bonus Round you can try it again if you quit at the Bonus Round Screen (if you tap OK, you will continue and make an automatic save) and then return to the main menu and don't save! During any game, press START to be given the option to QUIT or CONTINUE. You will also be given the option to save. =============================================================================== 4. H O W T O P L A Y : T H E A D V E N T U R E G A M E =============================================================================== This is what the screen looks like for the main part of the game. _________________________________________ / | \ | | | | | | | | START > o o | | __________________ | __________________ | | |CHAR | | Score | | | Score | |CHAR | | | |__ _| |_______| | |_______| |_ __| | | |##)/ | | | \(##| | | |-/ | ________ | | | ________ | \-| | | |#|A | | | | | | | | | A|#| | | |#| | | TOP | | | | | TOP | | |#| | | |#|A | | TS | | | | | TS | | A|#| | | |#| | | CARD | | | | | CARD | | |#| | | |#|A | | | | | | | | | A|#| | | |_|__| |______| | | | |______| |__|_| | | | 10 | | | 20 | | | |________________| | |________________| | | | | | | | | | | | | | \____________________|___________________/ o Checking out the Screen Your opponent plays on the left. There will be a card showing face up on your screen, and the next card will appear automatically after playing the first round. The bar at the side of the screen will slowly fill up as you win points, and when it reaches the top you can activate the special ability of your character, by tapping the circle with the electricity icon at the top of the meter The three A (Ability) Cards that you selected before the start of the round, will be alongside the bar. These are used at the start of your turn, and you can only use one at a time, although for one character you can use one after activating the Special Ability. For this first game you will have two Ability Cards and 20 cards and the Slitheen has three Ability Cards and 10 cards. Your goal is to win all his cards. o Selecting Categories From your knowledge of the characters and enemies in Doctor Who, you must judge which category from one card is most likely to beat the same category of your opponent's card. Of course, you don't know what card he holds (although some ability cards will allow you to find out). Make a guess and tap the category. This will reveal your opponent's card and the same category. If you win, you receive their card, if not, they get yours. It's as simple as that! ... or is it?!? o Special Ability Notice that the meter will start to fill up showing in blue. Win by a good margin and you gain more points to fill this meter faster. If you manage to fill it up completely then the Doctor can use his Special Skill: Time Warp. Tap the icon at the top of the bar and you will be shown the next three cards from your opponent's deck. This means that you can be sure to win the next three rounds...at least, IF you remember which cards he has and the stats. This is where this FAQ can be useful, since you can easily remember the names of the three cards and then check out the details. You will continue to go first so long as you keep winning. o Ability Cards Make sure to use these cards and if you cannot remember what effect the Ability Cards have, then press START and this pauses the game. The new screen shows your Ability Cards and you can tap them to see the description. o Unlocking New Cards and the Bonus Round After you win the match, you will receive a new Ability Card from the Slitheen (and from every opponent), and unlock a new Data Core Card. You may also unlock a Mini-Game, and at the end of this first game you unlock Classic Mode. After the game there will be a Bonus Round which allows you to "steal" cards from your next opponent so you have a better start to the next matach. =============================================================================== 5. H O W T O P L A Y : T H E B O N U S R O U N D =============================================================================== o Summary At the end of every card battle except the final one for that character (World Five), there is a Bonus Round, which consists of one of the four Mini-Games. You have to attempt these games in order to continue playing the Adventure Game. These are: Hi/Lo, Interrogation, Cyber Seqnence and Memory Matrix. The order in which they are played changes for each character, and the level of the game and thus the difficulty, also increases. o Advantages of Winning If you succeed in winning the Bonus Round, then you will be rewarded by stealing cards from the next enemy. This is VERY useful because, as the game progresses, your cards decrease and the opponent's cards increase. Each character will have less cards than the last one, but can steal back more. o Disadvantages of Losing The Bonus Rounds are set for each character and World, and full details of these are in the next section. If you lose, then all that happens is that you start the next game with one less card than the last time. Of course after having played 10 or more games, that means that you have a LOT less cards! If you lose the Bonus Round and want to try it again you can do so, so long as you don't save. =============================================================================== C. The Bonus Rounds and Mini-Games =============================================================================== 1. T H E C A R D B A T T L E S : K E Y F E A T U R E S =============================================================================== ----------------- 1. Ultimate Cards ----------------- If one of these cards is defeated you will see a message to inform you of that fact! I think this is them all, and they are the most powerful cards for the different categories. When you defeat one of them you will score more points. Cult of Skaro, Judoon Captain, Dalek, Emperor Dalek, Cyberman, The Doctor, Genesis Ark. ------------------ 2. Number Of Cards ------------------ You begin the game with the advantage, and have more cards than your opponent. However as the game progresses it becomes harder to win since your share gets less, and their cards increase. You can soften this blow by winning the Bonus Round at the end of each World, and this allows you to steal cards. There is no Bonus Round at the end of the World 5. The overall number of cards begins with 30, and by the end there are 38 in total. Two more are added for each character you unlock. ---------------- 3. Ability Cards ---------------- At the start of each round you can select three ability cards to use in the battle. Your opponent will also have three cards, including one that you won't have seen before, and you will win this new card when you beat them. You can choose new ability cards for each world you play. -------------------------------------- 4. Extra Ability Cards: Category Bonus -------------------------------------- You will be awarded additional Ability Cards if you fulfil these conditions. Your opponent can also win extra cards in the same way. 3x category bonus: win three times in a row using the same category. 10x combo bonus: win 10 times in a row. ------------------ 5. Special Ability ------------------ This ability can be used whenever it is your turn and the ability meter is full. You will see the top of the meter flash and the blue bar will be at the top. Once used, the meter is drained and you have to fill it up again. Your opponent will make good use of their ability meter, so make sure to do the same! You need 1000 ability points required to fill the meter. --------------------------------- 6. Winning Special Ability Points --------------------------------- These points go towards filling up the Ability meter bar. If the result is a "Close Call" then the opponent will receive 50+ points to their meter even though they haven't won the round, so try to get a good win. However, you will also get 50 points even if you lose the round, and you gain points if you win, even if it is the opponent's round. Massive Win +500 points Great Win +250 points Good Win +100 points Close Call + 50 to both -------- 7. Boost -------- When you play the card that is your character's card, then you receive an automatic boost to all stats. This means that is can be hard to win against this card if your opponent plays their own card. An example of this would be if Slitheen revealed the Slitheen card: it would be boosted and all stats appear in green showing a 20% increase. ----------------- 8. Getting a Draw ----------------- If you draw, the next round will continue automatically and the same category will be selected. This will continue until someone wins the round and they will win all cards on the draw pile. The cards for the draw pile appear on score bar at the top of the screen and stay there until someone wins them. -------------- 9. Bonus Round -------------- There is a Bonus Round after every battle except World 5. If you lose then you cannot steal any cards, which means that you can end up with a major disadvantage. You can lose all your lives in the Bonus Rounds, but so long as you win then you can steal the full amount of extra cards. These rounds are exactly the same as the Mini-Games with one difference: you only play one level at a time and the level will increase, making them harder to win, with each character you play. The Bonus Round score is added to the overall score of the game, which is why you see a larger score than you might expect on the left screen. You can steal one card for the first Character, and then one more is added for each Character you unlock, until Character 6 when you can steal 6 cards. ------------------- 10. 100% Completion ------------------- Complete the Adventure Mode and beat all four mini-games and your save file will show 100% completion. You can start the Adventure game again and this time there will be no bonus rounds and you will have all Ability Cards available from the start. =============================================================================== 2. S P E C I A L A B I L I T I E S =============================================================================== Every character has their own special ability which is activated when the meter is filled. Use these as often as you can. ------------------------- 1. THE DOCTOR: Time Warp. ------------------------- See the next three cards in the opponent's hand. This is useful, of course, but you will only see each card for a moment or two and need to be quick to make a mental note of them all. ----------------------- 2. SLITHEEN: Chameleon. ----------------------- Copy your opponent's card and make it your own: this means that you both have the same card. Select any category and it will be a draw and then next round will take place automatically with the same category used. (This will continue until someone wins the draw card pile.) The only time it won't be a draw is if the card is one of the player's cards, in which case it will get the player's boost. -------------------------- 3. CAPTAIN JACK: Scavenge. -------------------------- Steal and use a random card from your opponent. When you use this ability your current card will be replaced by one from the opponent, so it's best to use this ability if your card is not a powerful one. Also you can use this on the final card and simply steal your opponent's last card to win the game. --------------------- 4. CYBERMAN: Upgrade. --------------------- Boosts the current card's categories by 50%. What this means is that the card in play will have all its categories boosted. This is a one time boost just for that card. ------------------------- 5. MARTHA JONES: Stealth. ------------------------- Steal and use a random Ability Card. If you already have three cards then she will destroy one of the opponent's Ability Cards if they have any left. You can also obtain another Ability Card even if the opponent doesn't have one, and then use a card in the same turn as using the Special Ability. (As an opponent she did a stealth attack when I was playing as Cyberman and got the super trump card...so you can get ability cards even if they have not been unlocked.) ---------------------- 6. DALEK: Exterminate. ---------------------- Cuts the opponent's card categories in half. This virtually guarantees a win. =============================================================================== 3. A B I L I T Y C A R D S =============================================================================== These are arranged in groups on the Ability Card screen, and you will unlock more powerful cards as you progress. Your opponents also have access to ability cards so it is important to recognise the symbols and know what attacks they might be using, as well as knowing what your own attacks will accomplish. In a battle you will see the Ability Cards in a line at the right of your screen and just to the left of the power-up bar. You can only use one card at a time, although sometimes you can use one during the same go when you activate the power up. You are given the option to take three Ability Cards into battle (you don't have to if you don't want to, and you don't have to use them all if you do take them with you) but it's a good idea to make the best use of them. I find the most useful Cards to be Scanner, Energise, and Power especially during the first half of the game. I also used Dilemma after getting this near the start of the second half. (Fourth character.) o Scanner is especially handy when you have access to my tables showing the information for all cards, since you can check the stats even if you only have the Level 1 card which allows you to see the name of the opponent's card o Energise has a random effect, but the higher level ones are good. o Power Level 1 is a good early card as it drains the meter and prevents your opponent from activating their Special Ability. o Dilemma gives you 2 cards if you win, and so long as you only use this card when you know you cannot lose a round then it's a sure fire way to gain an extra card. -------------------- SCANNER: YELLOW CARD -------------------- Icon: A card with a circle overlapping the bottom right corner and three lines crossing the circle inside the card. Scanner Level 1: Displays the character's name from your opponent's card Level 2: Shows the character's name and picture of your opponent's card Level 3: Scans one random category from your opponent's card Level 4: Scans two random categories from your opponent's card Level 5: Scans three random categories from your opponent's card Level 6: Scans four random categories from your opponent's card Level 7: Scans ALL categories from your opponent's card -------------------- ENERGISE: GREEN CARD -------------------- Icon: A card with a cross drawn on it. Energise Level 1: Gain a 25% boost on a random category Level 2: Gain a 25% boost for two random categories Level 3: Gain a 25% boost for three random categories Level 4: Gain a 25% boost for four random categories Level 5: Gain a 25% boost for ALL categories ------------------ CLOAK: PURPLE CARD ------------------ Icon: A card with a thick bar going from the bottom left corner to the middle right and crossing out information. Cloak Level 1: Hide one random category on your opponents' card on their next turn. Level 2: Hide two random categories on your opponents' card on their next turn. Level 3: Hide three random categories on your opponents' card on their next turn. Level 4: Hide four random categories on your opponents' card on their next turn. Level 5 Hide ALL categories on your opponents' card on their next turn. ---------------- POWER: BLUE CARD ---------------- Icon: A card with two bars representing the power up bars, and showing them full, empty, and half full with arrows at the top to show who drains or boosts their bar. Power Level 1: Drain your opponent's power bar by 500 points. Level 2: Boost your own power bar by 500 points. Level 3: Swap power bar with your opponent. Level 4: Completely drain your opponent's power bar. Level 5: Automatically fill your power bar to maximum. ------------------- TIME: DEEP RED CARD ------------------- Icon: Three cards shows a circle with an empty section, and one shows a loop around the card and one shows two lines with question marks. Time Attack Level 1: Causes your opponent to have limited time to select a category on their next turn. Level 2: Causes your opponent to have even less time to select a category on their next turn. Time Loop: Allows you to re-use the same card should you win a turn. Time Travel: Reverses the order of both yours and your opponent's card packs. Regenerate: Pick two categories. Should one category be beaten then the next one is played. -------------------------- RANDOM CHANCE: YELLOW CARD -------------------------- Icon: These are all different. Teleport (two arrows facing opposite directions) Swap your current card with that of your opponent then continue play as normal. Dilemma ((a large question mark) Win and receive 2 cards from your opponent. Lose and you will lose two cards. Cyber Scramble (two smaller cards with question marks on them) This will play a random Ability Card. -------------- TURQUOISE CARD -------------- Icon: These two are different, and both cards appear at the centre bottom of the Ability Card screen. Transporter (an X in the middle of the card: unlocked at end of round 1) Swap your current card for the next one in your pack. SUPER TOP TRUMP (A large S in the middle of the card: unlocked at end of Main Adventure) Automatically wins the turn for you, regardless of what card your opponent has. =============================================================================== 4. B O N U S R O U N D S A N D M I N I - G A M E S =============================================================================== 1. Hi/Lo 2. Cyber Sequence 3. Interrogation 4. Memory Matrix o Bonus Rounds/Mini-Games You will play all of these games during the Adventure Game, as they are the Bonus Rounds. The first of these games, Hi/Lo, is available from the start but the others have to be unlocked, and they will all have been unlocked by the end of the Adventure Game. o Hall of Time At the end of each mini-game, if you have a high score, you will be asked to Select END and the DS will make a save and then show your score in the Halls of Time for that particular game. You can see all your scores if you tap Halls of Time in the main menu screen. o Unlocking Cards You must play all four mini-games in order to unlock the remaining 8 cards. You will get two for each game if you reach the score of 25000. In other words, you do NOT have to complete all levels to obtain this score. o Scoring Points All these games use the same scoring system. You will score 1000 points for each correct answer and lose 500 points for each incorrect answer. At the end of the round you receive points based on how many lives you used up. If you have a perfect round you gain 5000 extra points. Lose one life and you gain 2000 points, lose 2 lives and you gain 1000 points. Lose all three and you gain no points. Max for level 1 = 8000 Max for Level 2 = 16000 Max for level 3 = 24000 o Lives All games use the same life system. The maximum number of lives you can have is three, and if you lose all three but manage to complete the round you will receive another three lives at the start of the next Level. If you give a wrong answer then you lose a life. The game will continue until you lose all lives. The higher levels do not always give you three lives though. -------- 1. HI/LO -------- All you have to do it to guess whether the next card shown will have a higher or lower figure for the selected category. A card is shown on the right screen and one category will be highlighted in red. Tap either HI or LOW with the stylus. The second card then is used for the next (random) category, and so on. This is an easy game to play and if you know your lists of cards you can usually make a decent guess based on the chances of the next card showing a higher or lower number. Each level increases the number of rounds by one. Level 1 3 rounds Level 2 4 rounds Level 3 5 rounds Level 4 6 rounds Level 5 7 rounds Level 6 8 rounds Win over 25000 points and you will get two cards for the Data Core. You can win these at the start of Top Trumps if you wish, since this mini-game is there from the beginning. UNLOCKS: Sycorax and Ood ----------------- 2. CYBER SEQUENCE ----------------- This is a "watch the card" game. There are three cards and you will be shown the face of one of them and then it is turned around again so you see the back of all three cards. They are then moved around and you must select the one you were shown. This is easy to do at first, but as the rounds continue the cards move faster and faster and it becomes tricky to pick the right one. By round three the cards will move quickly and disappear for a brief moment as well. During round four often the card will stop still for a couple of seconds. In round five the movement lasts for longer and is harder to track. Round 6 is nearly impossible, but you can always just make a random guess. I cannot offer much help for this game, except to say that you must concentrate on watching the track of the one card and ignore the other two, but you knew that anyway. This game only has three rounds for each level. UNLOCKS: Auton and Tallulah ---------------- 3. INTERROGATION ---------------- In this game you will be shown be shown two cards with all their numbers obscured with lots of question marks. One category will be highlighted in red and you must guess whether the one named card is more or less in number for that category than the other. Then you select TRUE OR FALSE. This requires you to have a good idea of the stats for the named cards. After you answer (and thankfully you can take as long as you like for this game) you will be shown the actual stats and told if you were correct or incorrect. All levels have three rounds but the time for showing each card is less as you reach the higher levels. However, this really does not matter, because the full details of the question are written on the left screen, so you don't even need to look at the cards if you know the basic details of the different characters. The only slight problem with this game is to make sure you don't tap the wrong label by mistake. Sometimes you need to read the question carefully to make sure exactly what is being asked. Remember, you can take as long as you like before answering: you could even look up the tables here just to check! One thing is that even if you don't lose any lives, when you start Level 3 you will only have 2 lives. Same for level 4: start with 2 if don't lose any. Level 5 and 6 give you 1 life only. I think the questions get harder, in that the difference in stats is smaller the higher the level, so it would be difficult to just guess the answer. UNLOCKS: Judoon Captain and Brannigan ---------------- 4. MEMORY MATRIX ---------------- This is the hardest of all the games, and if you plan on getting the extra cards and want to succeed in the later bonus rounds, then the best way to win at this game is to write down the stats as fast as you can. By the time you get to round 4 and 5 this is nearly impossible to do, as the cards are shown only for a very short time. However, if you have managed to achieve perfect scores in earlier rounds you should have won enough points to achieve the necessary 2500 points. There is an easier method to help win these harder Levels if you have this FAQ in front of you!. Note the name of the three cards you are shown and then check the lists for the answer to the question. You have as much time as you want after the question is asked, so you can look up the details on the comparison charts. You have three seconds to view each card, and there are three rounds for every level. Level 1 You will be told to memorise a particular category, chosen at random. Then three cards will be shown to you with this one category highlighted. (The rest are obscured with question marks.) The cards are then hidden and you have to pick the one that provides the answer to a random question based on the categories you have viewed. Which card was the most/least intelligent? Which card was the most/least courageous? Which card was the shortest/tallest? Which card was the darkest/least dark? Which card had the highest/lowest monster rating Level 2 Now you have two categories to memorise, and then you will be asked one question about either category. Level 3 This plays the same as Level 2. Level 4 Three categories to study, and one final question on any of the categories. Level 5 Four categories to study. Level 6 All categories to memorise. H I N T S A N D T I P S *TIPS =============================================================================== 1. Most human characters have low stats for Monster Rating and Darkness, but they have the highest stats for courage and intelligence, so try to select these as appropriate. 2. If you don't think you can win and the card has a NON stat (no numbers are shown), then select this category for an automatic draw and hope that the next card will do better and you can win the draw pile. 3. Don't always use the Special Ability as sometimes is it best to save it for when you really need it, although this depends partly on what Ability it is. 4. Use the Ability Cards if you think you might lose a weaker card. 5. The meter will carry over to the next stage, so if it's full at the end of the previous round it will still be full at the start of the next. 6. You gain more points to fill the meter when your card's category is MUCH higher than your opponent's card. 7. If you win two same categories in a row, then try a third if it looks as if you have a reasonable chance of winning, because you will get a bonus Ability Card for three wins with the same category. 8. The highest Monster Rating number is 10, but be aware that this can be boosted in various ways, so it will not always guarantee a win. 9. Time or Cloak Ability Cards: the card will turn green and will only activate if/when your opponent gets a turn, because it is used on the opponent's next turn. 10. Make sure to keep a space for any combo extra Ability Card, or you will lose it if there is no where for it to go! =============================================================================== E. A D V E N T U R E G A M E G U I D E *GUIDE =============================================================================== The left screen will show six hexagons and you start at the bottom playing as The Doctor. The other 5 cannot be seen at the beginning, but you will unlock them one by one when you complete the character's five games. There are five worlds each represented by one opponent and you play a game in each world. After each game you will receive another Ability Card, and if you win the Bonus Round you will be able to steal cards before the next game starts ------------------ General Strategies ------------------ You will be fighting the same enemies many times, but using different characters. These are some general tips about each of them. Obviously all card battles are random, but sometimes you will end up with the opponent only having a few cards left and one of those may be their character card. Also these strategies take into account Special Abilities as well as their particular card stats. o Fighting The Doctor Although The Doctor has the highest courage and intelligence of all, and the best Special Ability, in fact he is not hard to beat because when the AI controls him, it usually fails to act upon the information from his Time Warp skill. Also he is vulnerable to Darkness and Monster Rating categories. o Fighting Slitheen Slitheen has good all round stats with no particular weakness. However, his Clone Special Ability is not much use, since it allows him to be vulnerable to another random round of cards. Intelligence and Courage are the best categories to use against him, but you will probably also need the help of an Energise Card to boost stats. o Fighting Captain Jack Jack's Special Ability is a nuisance since he can steal one of your cards, but it's not worth worrying about this. He is vulnerable to Darkness and Monster Rating as you would expect, but don't use the Courage category when trying to nail him, even without his boost. o Fighting Cyberman Cyberman can be very effective with his all stats boost Special Ability. Taking in a Drain Ability Card can help stop him from using this. Courage works well, and this is often a very useful category against non-human enemies. o Fighting Martha Jones When playing against Martha use up all your Ability Cards as soon as possible to stop her from stealing them! Win on the categories of Monster Rating and Darkness which she cannot increase by much even with her card boost. She also has the lowest height of any of the human characters, and many other cards have much higher stats for this category. o Fighting Dalek Dalek's boost will give him high stats which are hard to beat. His courage will max out at 69 so that gives you a chance to beat him. His height stat (when boosted) can be bettered by a couple of cards if you are fighting him later on in the game and also when you have the awesome Emperor Dalek, though the chances of them meeting in battle are not great. When facing Dalek take in the Drain Ability Card to stop him from Exterminating! =============================================================================== C H A R A C T E R O N E : T H E D O C T O R =============================================================================== ------- WORLD 1 ------- The Doctor vs Slitheen Ability Cards: Scanner Level 1 and Energise Level 1 (default). 30 Cards in play: 20/10 ------ Unlock ------ Data Core: The Doctor Ability Card: Transporter Other: Classic Rules Bonus Round: Memory Matrix Level 1 Win with any number of lives left and steal one card ------- WORLD 2 ------- The Doctor vs Captain Jack Ability Cards: Scanner Level 1 and Energise Level 1 and Transporter. 30 Cards in play: 19/11 (with no steal) ------ Unlock ------ Data Core: The Tardis Ability Card: Power Level 1 Bonus Round: Interrogation Level 1 Steal one card ------- WORLD 3 ------- The Doctor vs Cyberman Ability Cards: Scanner Level 1, Energise Level 1, Transporter, Power Level 1. 30 Cards in play: 18/12 (with no steal) ------ Unlock ------ Data Core: Werewolf Ability Card: Energise Level 2 Bonus Round: Cyber Sequence Level 1 Steal one card ------- WORLD 4 ------- The Doctor vs Martha Jones Ability Cards: Scanner Level 1, Energise Level 1, Transporter, Power Level 1, Energise Level 2. 30 Cards in play: 17/13 (with no steal) ------ Unlock ------ Data Core: Joan Redfern Ability Card: Scanner Level 2 Bonus Round: Hi/Lo Level 1 Steal one card ------- WORLD 5 ------- The Doctor vs Dalek Ability Cards: Scanner Level 1, Scanner Level 2, Energise Level 1, Energise Level 2, Transporter, Power Level 1 30 Cards in play: 16/14 (with no steal) ------ Unlock ------ Data Core: Sonic Screwdriver Ability Card: Teleport Other: Character cards for Slitheen and Captain Jack Bonus Round: No Bonus Round. End of the first stage NOTE: THE DOCTOR VS DALEK This can be a tough battle to win even though you have the Doctor's awesome time warp skill. Make sure to use this whenever possible, because it gives you the chance to scan the next three cards. Memorising all stats from three cards at once is hard, but it's easier if you remember the names of the cards and then check the stats. The problem with the Dalek is that it's overall stats will top out just about any other card apart from the courage category: which gets to 69. Take in the Power Level 1 drain card to stop him from using Exterminate too often. Also try to rack up three same category wins in a row for an extra Ability Card: the best category to use, at least, when battling the Dalek, is courage. The only other card which can beat it at this stage, since you don't have all cards in play, is Emperor Dalek using the height category. =============================================================================== C H A R A C T E R T W O : S L I T H E E N =============================================================================== ------- WORLD 1 ------- Slitheen vs Captain Jack 30 Cards in play: 18/12 ------ Unlock ------ Data Core: Slitheen Ability Card: Cloak Level 1 Other: Bonus Round: Interrogation Level 2 Steal two cards ------- WORLD 2 ------- Slitheen vs Cyberman 30 Cards in play 17/13 (with no steal)) ------ Unlock ------ Data Core: The Hoix Ability Card: Scanner Level 3 Other: Bonus Round: Memory Matrix Level 2 Steal two cards ------- WORLD 3 ------- Slitheen vs Martha Jones 30 Cards in play 16/14 (with no steal) ------ Unlock ------ Data Core: Harriet Jones Ability Card: Time Loop Other: Bonus Round: Hi/Lo Level 2 Steal two cards ------- WORLD 4 ------- Slitheen vs Dalek 30 Cards in play 15/15 (with no steal) ------ Unlock ------ Data Core: Sycorax Ship Ability Card: Power Level 2 Other: Bonus Round: Cyber Sequence Level 2 Steal two cards ------- WORLD 5 ------- Slitheen vs The Doctor 30 Cards in play 14/16 (with no steal) ------ Unlock ------ Data Core: Slitheen Ship Ability Card: Energise Level 3 Other: Cyber Sequence Mini-Game 32 Card Mode Bonus Round: None NOTE: SLITHEEN VS THE DOCTOR Playing vs The Doctor: although he can use the Time Warp skill to see your next three cards he doesn't always seem to make use of the information to win the next three rounds, so this is not as bad as you might expect. However, taking in the Ability Card that can drain his meter is a good plan. To beat his card all you need to do is play the Darkness or Monster Rating category so that is simple enough! =============================================================================== C H A R A
