Most cops only grow through two seasons but it's important to plant seeds early in the season. For example, on the first day of spring, you should plant lots of tomatoes and strawberries. Here are some hints and tips to having a succesfull farm and crops: -But seeds from Vesta. Then go to your farm and go to a field. Take out your seeds. Plant them with A. -Get water from the fountain buy -Tomatoes are the most widely-used food used in cooking in Harvest Moon. It's always good to plant lots of them in Spring and Summer. -You should water your crops two times daily in order to have a good season -There are three crop cycles: Sprouts, then flowers, and then green veggies/ fruit -If your wondering why you see crop and can't pick it, it's because there is a fruit, but is isn't ripe. Ripe crops are a little bit lighter toned than un-ripened crops -It's best to grow your crops in the very fertile field on your farm. Do not grow your crops in un-fertile soil, as it will take a lot longer for them to grow -Before you can plant your crops, you have to till the soil with a hoe. You are supplied with one in the beginning of the game -When you have harvested your crops, hoe the dead plants out of the soil or else you can't plant new ones -Do not water your plants twice daily when it has just rained out. You can tell if they are dry if the soil is light brown -Crops won't grow unless the can grow in that specific season. Talk to Vesta to find out which crops grow best in the season you're in. So don't just decide you'll grow carrots in the boiling hot summer Here is a list of crops and what seasons they grow in and what they cost to buy them from Vesta: Tomato: Spring-Fall, 30g Watermelon: Spring-Summer, 60g Strawberry: Fall-Spring, 30g Melon: Summer-Fall, 50g Turnip: Summer-Winter, 20g Potato: Winter-Spring, 40g Carrot: Fall-Winter, 30g Sweet Potato: Fall Only, 40g This is only a list of some veggies and fruits. There are plenty more as you go through the different years! ++++++ Recipes ++++++ Takakura built you a kitchen in your home! So you may as well cook a bit! Notice when you're walking around and you pick-up an herb, it may say on the button guide "Eat". You have to eat in the game or else your person's stomach will always rumble! Eating herbs and grasses will replenish a little energy but this is when your kitchen comes in handy! Here are all the recipes I know: Salads: Tomacarro- Tomato, carrot Tomamelo- tomato, melon Marinade- mugwort, tomato or turnip, fish Fruit salad- tomato, two fruits Soups Tomatoma soup- tomato, carrot Yam soup- sweet potato Earth soup- carrot, potato Stew- carrot, potato, milk Potato soup- potato, wild plant, mushroom Fish stew- 2 root veggies, fish Entree's Curry- carrot, potato, ruby's spice Mushroom curry- carrot, mushroom, ruby's spice Omlete- egg, butter Gratin- milk, butter, cheese Mushroom gratin- mushroom, milk, cheese Menuere set- fish, butter Deserts Love cocktail- grapes, watermelon Baked potato- grilled yam Good juice- tomato, carrot, gretoma Veggie juice- tomato, gretoma Carrot cake- carrot, milk, egg Strawberry cake- strawberry, milk, egg Peach tart- peach, egg, butter Fruit punch- three fruits Fruit juice- two fruits, milk Ice cream- brown milk, star milk Pound cake- milk, egg, butter Hors d'oeurves Melon Pie- melon, egg, butter Strawberry pie- strawberry, egg, butter Grape pie- grape, egg, butter Sashimi- fish Fried mushroom- tomato, mushroom, butter Smooth veggies- turnip, carrot, potato Tempura- sweet potato, mushroom, any herb *You can make Entrees, Deserts and Hors d'oeurves when you cook a certain number of soups and salads! +++++++++++ Your Buildings +++++++++++ There are lots of different buildings on your farm. Here they are with a descriptin of each: Your Place: This building contains a bedside table (sleep/save game/status log), a television (news/weather/horoscope/features), a kitchen (you start with soups and salads), a calendar (check upcoming events), a bookshelf (Takakura's notes/configure options), a record player (plays tunes), a garbage can (throw items away), a table and a bed. The Barn: This building is where your animals stay. There is a fodder chute (get fodder to feed animals), a trough for each animal you have, a chalkboard (check to see if your animals are healthy, sick, or even pregnant), a water trough (animals drink out of this), a bell to call them outside and a garbage disposal. The Toolshead: This building is attached onto the barn. On the left wall of the toolshead there is a place to hold tools. At the back of the toolshead there is special tools for raising baby calves. These include an isolaton fence, and a small stall. The right wall has a special storage cabinet for holding seeds and other important items. Food Storage Building: This building is how I made most of my cash! Drop your milk and eggs in the bin beside the little table. Dont forget to save some for yourself though! Go back in about two days and Takakura will have left you a not saying how much money you've made! You can also store food here (in the big thing at the back of the room) and you can even buy animals! Go to the little table and there are tons of options to choose from like order animals, tools, good fodder, bird seed and much more! Chicken Coop: This provides shelter for your chickens, chicks, ducks and ducklings. Your fowl will lay eggs daily if they are happy and maybe a fertillized egg to put in the incubator or even a golden egg! There is a shallow watering place for the birds to go in and the incubator to put fertillized eggs in. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Other Buildings Outside Your Farm +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ These are the buildings outside of your farm: *Note: These are the buildings only in Year 1. They change as the years go by* Blue Bar: Just telling you now, this is a non-alcoholic bar! The Blue Bar is a place you can go relax after a long day of farming. You can go chat with either Griffin, the bar owner, or Muffy, his helper, and one of the unmarried women in Forget-Me-Not Valley. The drinks that Griffin make also replenish a bit of energy. Houses: One of the houses is where Chris and her husband Wally live. They have a son named Hugh. Wally and Hugh are all into athletics and training while Chris is cooking and doing laundry for them. The other house is where two old retired people live named Nina and Galen. They moved to Forget-Me-Not Valley because they were sick of the big city. Inner Inn: The Inner Inn is where Nami (one of the potential brides), Rock, Ruby and Tim live. Rock is usually thinking about parties and what-not, Ruby loves to cook, Nami is probably reading a book, and Tim is running the Inn. Dig Site: This is where Carter and Flora live and work. They are interested in archeology and science. If you want some things to give to Nami, go here and volunteer to help them dig. You get to keep anything that isn't important. Hippie House (lol): Yes, Gustafa lives here in this house that looks like some kind of tent. Gustafa loves to play the guitar and he's a poet. Cody's House: I bet this is where Cody lives! Cody is an artist (I don't think he looks like one, maybe a body builder though...) That's all there really is about him. Kassey and Patrick's House: You can't call this thing a house! You have to climb a rope to get inside! Well, Kassey and Patrick are twin bro's that are all into fireworks and stuff. They are always arguing about somthing. Lab: Yes, Daryl, the mad scientist lives here. He is into chemistry and probably has blown a few things up once or twice. You can't give this guy anything without him analysing it with his micro-bi- optical ray goggles! Romana Villa: Romana, and Lumiana live here. This house is like a mansion! They have a butler named Sebastian and two cute kittens! Lumina plays the piano and Romana sits in her rocking chair and knits (how exciting!). Supernatural: This is the tree that Nik, Nak, and Flak all live in. These three critters are always finding something (like a blue feather perhaps?). Vesta's Farm: Vesta, Celia, and Vesta's brother, Marlin live here. Celia is one of the potential brides that loves farming, Vesta loves to farm too and Marlin is very quiet. ++++ Tools ++++ You are supplied with all of the basic tools you need for farming in the beginning of the game. They are in the Toolshead on the left wall. These tools include: Hoe: Gets rid of dead plants Sickle: Chops down that long grass at the back of the barn so you can feed your animals Watering can: To water your plants Milker: If you dont want to milk your cow by hand Don't think just because you have tools you don't need anymore. These are Takakura's old ones and they drain your energy very quickly. Save up some money to buy some lighter ones. An when the merchant, Van, comes to town (he announces his openings), buy a fishing rod. This can make you lots of $$! Here are some unlockable tools and other things in the game and how to get them: Fishing Pole G: Befriend Galen Watering Can W: Befriend Romana Wool Clippers: Befriend Wally Strange Sickle: Befriend Gustafa Weird Sickle: Befriend Dr. Hardy Strange Hoe: Befriend Tim Weird Hoe: Befriend Vesta Ruby Spice: Befriend Ruby Music Sheet: Befriend Lumina Alarm Clock: Befriend Grant, Samantha, or Kate +++++++++++++++++ Animals and Livestock +++++++++++++++++ If you need help on animal care, this should help: Cows: Since female cows can produce milk twice a day, they are big money makers! And cows eat more than any other farm animal! There are different grades of milk as well crops too. Grade S milk sells for the highest amount of gold. Buy a brush from Van and ring the bell in the barn and send your animals outside. Push your cow over to that little water area, take out your brush, and wash your cow! She will happily sing! You know you have to wash your cow when she starts to get a brown tinge on her white skin. Cows stop giving milk about 40 days after they give birth, so when your cow stops giving milk, get her pregnant! Sheep: Easy-going sheep eat half as much as cows, and you can only trim their wool once per season. Pamper your sheep by brushing their wool daily and giving them a hug. Giving your sheep a bath is good too. If you take good care of them, they may produce golden wool! Chickens: Chickens don't require more care than cows and sheep but don't think because I said that you can forget about them! Pick up your roosters, chickens, and chicks and give them a hug and love them but don't do it when they're sleeping! If you take good care of your chickens, they may produce golden eggs! Horses: Horses need to be ridden daily. When your wandering around, tap R twice to call your horse and she will come! It's a good way to move around quick and it conserves your energy. You should hug your horse daily and talk to your horse daily and give her a bath once every three days. Goats: Your probably saying right now, "Goat? How do I get a goat?" In the second year, when Van comes to town, he'll have a goat for sale for 4000g! This is an extremely good buy even if you think it's kind of expensive! Goats give goat's milk (I'm pointing out the obvious here...). It usually doesn't sell for more than cows milk. You should hug, talk, brush or do all three to your goat everyday if you want good goats milk. After awhile the goat stops giving milk. You can't sell the goat either. Hints and tips to animal care: -Hug or talk to your animals each day if you want to get the best out of them -Use a sickle to cut down the long grass outside the barn. Then go inside the barn to the fodder chute, take some out, and put it in your animals trough -Look on the chalkboard to see if your animals are healthy -Order medicine when your animals are sick -Order bird feed to feed your feathersome flock -Order good fodder to get grade S milk from your cow -Use the barn bell to call your animals outside on sunny days -Don't call your animals out on rainy or cold days as they will get sick -Brush each of your animals each and every day -When they get dirty, wash them -Try breeding different types of cows like a star bull and a brown cow -Don't mess with your animals when they're sleeping! ++++++ Fishing ++++++ This is my favorite thing in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life! Purchace a fishing rod from Van for 500g. This is the best deal in the game! Take out your fishing rod and go near water. Then cast. Wait untill you get a bite, then wait for the big one. Then immediately press A (just once). You can eat fish, sell fish, give 'em to your neighbors, cook with them, and even give them to your dog to eat! Here is a list of all of the fish you can catch, what Van will buy them for, and where you can catch them: L=Lower River P=Pond/Spring W=Waterfall/Upper River M=Middle River S=Swamp Arna- 400g- S P Colombo- 20g- S P L M Snelt- 30g- S P L M Nyameme- 60g- S P W Rainbob- 80g- S L Huchep- 90g- W Yameme- 500g- W Sharshark- 600g- L M Big Arna- 800g- S P Big Colombo- 40g- S P L M Big Snelt- 60g- S P L M Big Nyameme- 130g- W Big Rainbob- 150g- S L Big Huchep- 170g- W Big Yameme 1,000g- S P W Big Sharshark- 1,200g-L M +++++++++++++ The Dating Game +++++++++++++ Yeah, Harvest Moon A Wonderful life isn't all abot farming, planting, and watering. It's about your life, getting married, having a child. There are three potential brides in Forget-Me-Not Valley. Here is each with a description and how to get them to like you: Celia This is Vesta's daughter but she is quite opposite of her. Celia is compassionate and knowlegeable about farming and crops. Celia is a traditional farm girl looking for an honest, hard-working man! How to get her: Celia is a softie for flowers. If you give her a flower every day starting from the first day of spring, she will be head- over-heels in love with you! Her diary is located: On her bed in her room (upstairs of Vesta's home, the loft). Muffy Muffy is a flashy flirt who wants to find a man. A real man! If you prefer a pretty face, without a clue about farming, crops, and animals, this is your match! How to get her: Flowers! Nothing but flowers! Give her nothing but flowers! Well...except for Big Huchep fish (if you can catch one). Her diary is located: Inside the colourful lamp in the Blue Bar. Nami Nami is definately the smartest out of the three prospects and she wont fall for flowers. She is anything but predictable. Nami is always on the road and loves to travel. She'll definately pack her bags and leave if you don't marry her! How to get her: Go to Carter's dig site and dig up some coins and fossils. Dhe'll love you forever! Her diary is located: On the desk in the Inn in her room. Here is a list in which the girls wake-up: Celia: 6:00am Muffy: 10:00am Nami: Different times early in the morning Here are some questions that people off of the Message boards have asked: Q: I really like someone that is not a potential bride. Then, one day in the summer of Year 2, wake up later than your wife. Then she will tell you that there are Ducks swimming in the pond. She will ask if you want to keep them and you will say YES or NO and depending on your answer, you will either have no ducks, or all the ducks. -Feed your dog every day and then you'll be able to train him with the Y button. If you train him, he will send your animals in and out of the barn at the correct times -Walk into Takakura's house at aprox. 5:00-10:00am in Year 2. A talking plant named Tartan will be in there. You have to be friends with Takakura for this to happen. You know when your friends with Takaura when you walk by him and he looks at you -If you love your chickens every day, they may lay golden eggs -You can get Ruby's spice from Ruby if you befriend her. Then go in the Inner Inn, then in her kitchen. If you are good friends with her, she'll give you Ruby's Spice -Once you have the Ruby's Spice, go to your kitchen. Then cook with only 1 Ruby's Spice. You'll make another. And then do it again. And again untill you have as many as you can get. Sell them to Van for 100g each but remember to keep 1 for yourself -When you go to sell things to Van, you can haggle with him. Lets say he wants 100g for a fish. Say no and he might say 120g -Befriend Daryl. Then on the first day of summer, chapter 1, he'll give you a free seed maker. This is a good deal becaus they'er worth 6,000g -Do not plant seeds near a tree or they wont grow -If your saying, "How do I propose to a girl?" you'll get a blue feather from Nic, Nak and Flak on the first day of summer, chapter 1, you give it to the girl you want to marry, and if she accepts it, you are officially engaged -Are you having trouble getting Nami to marry you? Propose to Celia and Muffy. When they say, "Are you serious?" say, "No". Nami will really like you now -Don't go fishing with an empty stomach as it will rumble and cause you to lose fish -Walk into Romana's Villa around 10:30am. This may start an intermission sequence where Lumina is playing piano. She'll tell you a story. Then when she asks you the question (I forget what it is) say, "It's better to have fun". You and her will become better friends -If you want some extra cash, it's good to go to the Dig Site. You might find some really cool stuff and most of them sell for a heck of a lot -Lets say you put an egg in the incubator and it hatches and it's a boy! But you didn't want a boy! Reset the Gamecube and you may get a girl next time -When you walk by someone and they look at you, you know your friends with them -Press R once to call your dog (Note: You have to be on your farm) -Sell fodder to Van for 10g each to make some extra cash -When your cooking, and it turnd out to be a mistake, you cann sell it to Van for 1g-5g instead of just throwing it out -Buy Good Fodder from the ledger and only feed it to your cow. Your cows milk will eventually go up to grade S which sells for high prices - In any chapter, and you can plant trees, remember to plant them in a different field than your crops -Walk into peoples houses and snoop to find a new recipe or two -Go into your house before 9:00pm then wait until 9:45. Go outside. This should start an intermission sequence where Daryl is trying to catch the monster, Muku Muku. It's funny to watch! -Fish under the waterfall by the dig site to catch rare fish. You can catch a Big Huchep here to give to Muffy. She won't accept a regular Huchep -In the second year, when Galen's wife, Nina dies, Galen will ask you if you want to polish her grave. Say "Yes". After your done, you can see her ghost These are all the hints and tips I know.
