Introduction \\\\\\ ----------------------------------------------- Personally, I find this game... okay. It is very standard and doesn't offer much new things. Most of the events are very simple and repetitive. Why an FAQ for the game? To help people who are stuck in the game. This FAQ's sole purpose is to allow those people who are not doing so well, to get that gold medal that's been taunting them for so long. So, here it goes! -------------------------------------------------------- //// II. Version History \\\\\\ ----------------------------------------------- Version 1.3 (?? KB) 11/3/02 It was incomplete again! I added some information to a few sections and I hope it is a full circle. Version 1.2 (14 KB) 11/2/02 I guess it was an empty circle because I had no characters section. I hope it's a full circle now! (17 Sections) Version 1.1 (12 KB) 10/27/02 Added "FAQ" and "Secrets." Fixed a couple errors. (16 Sections) Version 1.00 (11 KB) 10/26/02 Started FAQ (14 Sections) -------------------------------------------------------- //// III. Speed Skating \\\\\\ ----------------------------------------------- This is incredibly easy if you have fast hands. Yes, I hate events like this too, but how else could they simulate Speed Skating? Basically, all you have to do is hit two buttons very fast. Which buttons? The usual X and O buttons will do. At the beginning, make sure not to make a false start and start hitting as soon as the "Start" is signaled. Press O and X really fast and you'll get to a curve. Slow down here. Start pressing just a little bit slower. (But not much.) As soon as your done, go all out all over again. Go around another turn and your there! Hopefully, you'll have a gold. A fast way to tap is: _A___________ [ ] [ O ] [ ] [ X ] [____________] B The drawing is awful, but you should get the point. Put one hand on A and one hand on B and then start pressing O and X as fast as you can. This should work and make you much better at pressing quickly. (You can use this technique on other button-mashing events.) -------------------------------------------------------- //// IV. Figure Skating \\\\\\ ----------------------------------------------- This is a rather difficult event. Choose any one of the three events. For beginners, choose the first one, as it is the easiest. The last one is the hardest. It truly is for "experts only." Even if you choose the first one, the event is very difficult. A bunch of buttons will be coming at you on the side. DO NOT LOOK AT THE SKATER. Only look at the buttons and press them correctly at the exact time. This s very difficult. When you get to the combo, you'll have to press buttons, one after another. Like "Triangle, Square, Triangle, Circle." These are the same for every skater so try choosing one skater and learning her combo. At the end, I truly hope you get a gold medal. (It is very difficult, so a gold medal is an incredible accomplishment.) -------------------------------------------------------- //// V. Curling \\\\\\ ----------------------------------------------- I bet you've never even heard of curling. Ever. Well, maybe you have. However, you probably haven't. Why? Because you're probably an American and Americans tend to not know much about this sport. Don't worry, I'm also an American and until the Olympics in Salt Lake, I too did not know ANYTHING about this sport. Well, you'll have to learn about the sport to play it. (Sounds kind of obvious, doesn't it.) Curling is a sport played on the ice. You have to knock a round stone and get it into the "house." You have sweepers who sweep the ice and keep it moving. You can also knock others out of the house. A more detailed explanation can be found here: http://www.brown.edu/Students/Brown_Curling_Club/info/expl.html Anyway, there are some thing to remember when you are playing Curling in this game. First, you have to sweep the ball, but not too much. There are three games and you'll notice that the last two are going to try to knock you out a lot. Beware and try using strategies mentioned in the site above. Once you beat all the teams, a Gold Medal is yours! -------------------------------------------------------- //// VI. Half-Pipe Snowboarding \\\\\\ ----------------------------------------------- This is a very easy event to learn - but it is a hard one to get a gold medal in. You're on a snowboard and you are going on a half-pipe. You move automatically and all you have to is go on the jumps. When you're going up, everything will slow down. Press one of the four buttons when the meter gets to a number. X4 will do something different than X3. Do all the 4's and 3's for each button and NEVER REPEAT TRICKS. When you have chosen a trick, push the buttons that appear PERFECTLY and you'll get a gold medal at the end. Have fun! -------------------------------------------------------- //// VII. Moguls \\\\\ ----------------------------------------------- Moguls are a very fun event. Yep, that's what they are. They are fun and moderately difficult. There will be a little bar going from left to right. When it gets to the left, press L. When it gets to the right, press R. Timing is very important. When you get to the jumps, input one of the many tricks to perform that trick. Then, land and start the L and R thing all over again. When you get the end, hope for a gold medal! -------------------------------------------------------- //// VIII. Ski Jumping (K90) \\\\\ ----------------------------------------------- This event is by far the best event of the bunch. It involves strategy, no button mashing, and just a lot of fun. Hold both analog sticks down to choose the wind speed. Try to make it so that there is no wind at all. Then, keep both down as you are going down the runway. Push them both up to lift off. Try to be exact and not too late or early. Now that you're in the air, you have to gently push down so that you keep up with the bars. Then, press L1 to land. Timing is very important in this. Do it well and a Gold medal is yours! (Congratulations on that medal, by the way.) -------------------------------------------------------- //// IX. Ski Jumping (K120) \\\\\ ----------------------------------------------- This event sucks. Especially when you compare it to K90. I mean, it is basically just button mashing the whole way through. TOP start, select the wind speed the same way you did for K90. (Except that you need to use the X button.) Then, press O and X quickly (check speed skating for a good technique.) When you get to the end, press L1 to take off. While you are in the air, you need to tap like crazy and press L1 to land. Pretty boring, right? Getting a Gold medal is pretty difficult unless you are a good button-masher. -------------------------------------------------------- //// X. Skiing - Downhill \\\\\ ----------------------------------------------- This event is very difficult. It is a downhill skiing event. (How'd you guess.) Anyway, start by going around the poles while heading down the hill. It is very easy to get disqualified, especially if you go fast. (Which you have to do for ANY medal.) It is very difficult and will probably take you forever. Try to control the skier and go fast. However, at the beginning, go slow to learn the course and get used to it. You'll need to go fast when you're going for a medal, though. Good luck and I hope you get that Gold Medal! -------------------------------------------------------- //// XI. Skiing - Slalom \\\\\ ----------------------------------------------- This event is the hardest event in the game. Seriously. It is also the worst. Try to go pretty slow and do sharp turns. (That is the Square button.) Why do sharp turns? It is very difficult to make most of these turns as the course is very commonly like this: | | | | | B | | A | | | | | How do you get from A to B? The only way to do that is to use a sharp turn. Keep trying and you'll eventually get to the end and hopefully get a gold medal. (The gold medal part is VERY difficult.) -------------------------------------------------------- //// XII. Bobsleigh \\\\\ ----------------------------------------------- This event is a very fun and pretty easy. To start, tap O and X really fast to power up the meter. Then, press L1 to put that person in the bobsleigh. Then, do this for the other three people. On the course, don't touch the walls and GET EVERY SINGLE POWER UP. (There are two.) Also, try to stay in pretty good control of the bobsleigh. If you do all of this well, you will get a Gold Medal. Good Luck! -------------------------------------------------------- //// XIII. Secrets \\\\\\ -------------------------------------------------------- 1. Get a gold medal in all the events. Then, you will unlock the robot costume. 2. Get 1st place in Men and women events to unlock two costumes. (A bear and penguin.) -------------------------------------------------------- //// XIV. Characters \\\\\\ -------------------------------------------------------- Men! <><> Fillippo Bassa -This guy is pretty good all-around. He is great for starters and people who need to get used to the game. Ric Gordon - This guy is my favorite athlete. He is great at the Moguls and Half Pipe Events but he is also is a very good all around athlete. You might need to get used to him, but when you do, you'll like him a lot. Takeo Jinnai - This guy, like Fillippo Bassa, is a very all around guy for beginners. Experts should use Ric Gordon or someone else. Edward Bishop - A very good athlete. He seems a little under Ric Gordon, but still a great athlete. Heinz Stranzl - A very good male athlete. He is great in events that require you to go down a hill (downhill) and events that make you go on a track. (Bobsleigh.) Enjoy. Jules Belmondo - A pretty average guy. Not really good for much. He just can't measure up to the rest. Martin Baker - A very strong guy. You can use him in a multitude of events that require a strong person. (Like Bobsleigh) Klauss Gross - Very similar to Martin. He is also very good at Bobsleigh. (What a coincidence.) Women! <><><> Miyuki Aikawa - An okay Figure Skater and Moguls athlete. She is definitely a pretty good athlete. Nathalie Duchalp - Perfect for beginners. She is very all around and you can do a lot with her. When you get good, don't use her anymore. Brigid Rance - A nice speed skater and a nice skier. She is very fast and strong. Isabella Rivera - She is very strong, but not REALLY good at any event. Oh well. Stephanie Rilke - She is for beginners only. Again, you experts should stay away. Karen Turner - The best figure skater you can get. It may be one of the only things she does well, but she does it VERY well. Kerstin Steiner - She is very fast. You can do speed skating, downhill, and slalom with her. Sally Evans - She is very similar to Kerstin. She is fast and great on the Alpine events and speed skating. -------------------------------------------------------- //// XV. FAQ \\\\\\ -------------------------------------------------------- 1. I can't get a gold medal in Slalom. What do I do? Use the Technique I described. Keep trying because getting the gold medal (or any medal) is incredibly difficult. 2. What do I do with my VERY high scores? Please submit them to my e-mail address I mention in the beginning and end of this FAQ. -------------------------------------------------------- //// XVI.
