WHO AM I? / \____________________________________________/ My nick's Schlave - let's have at that. As many of you know by now, Castlevania: White Night Concerto is the sequel to the much-loved Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, both of the GBA. C:WNC's US name is Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance but since the English version is currently unreleased, I use White Night Concerto. Of course, since the game is largely in Japanese, and I don't know Japanese, I run into several problems, which I would like to address immediately. Firstly, I had to rely on websites for some interpretations, and as for the enemies (not bosses), I had to simply give them a name according to their stature and attacks. There was nothing much more I could do to avoid that problem, so if anybody knows better, drop me a mail at ernestho@magix.com.sg. As for the walkthrough, I knew there was going to be lots of backtracking. To keep up, I hope you use a piece of paper to note down parts which are highlighted as "***remember this area***" or likewise. More often than not, I speak of when we will be returning to that area. C:WNC is, in my opinion, superior to C:OTM in certain ways, and vice versa. For a start, players would notice that you rely 150 times less on luck to get items, and would have less difficulty seeing the game. Also, they would notice that the colors are, for somewhat the worse, brighter - perhaps too bright. But all in all, I like C:WNC for what it is now. (the guide will be re-updated to change names after the US version has been released) |--- |--- /\ /\ | | | | |_ | _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | _| / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /\ |================================================| \ 3. I will go through some stuff you have to know through and through, as well as some cheap tricks. __________________________________________________ General Mechanics ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ Juste is very much different from Nathan Graves in COTN, as some people still do not know. For one thing, when you jump and whip, you cannot control yourself. Take this into consideration in case you accidentally drop into some unwanted place. If you don't have the Circle of Energy, Juste's whip will hang slack, not twirl round, just like in Super Castlevania IV. This can serve as a barrier against light projectiles (like small fireballs) or small enemies (like Spirits). To know how to use the slack whip well, you must know how to twirl it around (even without the Circle of Energy). Juste's jump is also not affected by the momentum of his dash. He will jump the same height and length. __________________________________________________ Critical Hits ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ You know those blue damage points that come out occasionally and signal you have scored a critical hit? Critical hits do more damage than normal (equal to your STRENGTH). After some calculation, I suspect the pobability of hits boils down to: Your Strength _____________ x Enemy's Level = Probability Percentage Enemy's HP (may not apply to enemies that die in one hit) Critical hits are essential because they may allow you to destroy an enemy in one hit rather than two, as well as tacking on more damage to an enemy in a shorter time. __________________________________________________ Slack-Whip Twirling ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ If you aren't equipped with the Circle of Energy or the Crash Stone, holding the whip button after Juste lashes will make the whip sag in front of him (the whip is a chain-whip). By tapping the direction keys you can make his whip jerk in various directions. Here are some twirling techiques you can try: : Pre-COE Spinning : Have not the Circle of Energy? Fret not; by pressing left and right in quick succession, you can make the whip more or less simulate the effect of the Circle of Energy. If you find your whip is spinning too jerkily, speed up the tapping; if your whip is jerking left and right in a linear plane, slow down. : Guarding : Guarding is letting your whip twirl in a set area and protect against any light attacks or enemies. To guard above your head, tap the up button rapidly. To guard your feet and legs, tap down and left/right buttons in quick succession (simply tapping down will cause the whip to lose energy and simply flop). |--- |--- /\ /\ | | | | |_ | _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | _| / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /\ |================================================| \ 4. STORY / \____________________________________________/ Transylvania, 1740. The world is in chaos, wild with the rumor that the Dark Lord has re-arisen...but where is he? His dark castle seems alive with dark energy like never before...and then, your friend, Lydie Erlanger, goes missing! You and your friend Maxim Quicin seize up your weapons and head to the dark castle, all set for a classic damsel-in-distress situation...and just as you set out to stop Dracula, Maxim stops to tend his wounds and when you return for him, he has mysteriously disappeared too... You are Juste Belmont, one of the Belmonts, a family famed for their vampire-killing tradition and indomitable Vampire Killer chain whip. With the family whip heirloom, the Vampire Killer, you set out alone to rescue Maxim and Lydie, hunt down and vanquish Dracula at the same time. ---- INTRO TRANSLATION for Japanese Version (done by Steve Demeter) Fifty years have passed since Simon Belmont's quest against Dracula's curse. The current heir of the Belmont family, Juste, has stepped into the role by hunting Dracula's long lost relics. Maxim, a family friend who had renounced the Belmonts' code of honor on this very night two years ago, recently returned, battered from head to toe. Gasping and writhing in pain, he struggled to speak the unbelievable truth: Lydie, a childhood friend, has been abducted. Remembering his past connection with the Belmont family, Maxim managed to guide Juste to the scene of the crime. An ominous shape began to materialize out of the fog...could it be the fabled castle of Dracula? Slipping in and out of the darkness under the shimmering moonlight, the castle silently beckons this new guest... ---- |--- |--- /\ /\ | | | | |_ | _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | _| / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /\ |================================================| \ 5. WALKTHROUGH / \____________________________________________/ You, Juste Belmont, start off next to your friend, Maxim. You two are innocently talking when suddenly Maxim seizes up in pain and tells you to go forward without him. So do so...and your adventure thus begins! Keep going right, and leap over a large pile of what appears to be scrap metal. Touch the far right...and the scrap metal comes alive into a large, ancient knight and lumbers after you! Keep going right away from it, until you reach a drawbridge. Leap onto the drawbridge, which carries you to safety, and the knight falls into the chasm, destroying itself. Then the door slides open, and enter into the... ---------- -CASTLE A- ---------- Entrance ======== Items to Find: - Leather Armor - Heart Max Increase - Potion x 2 Here, whip the few candles you see for a couple for Hearts and lash the statue of the goddess with your whip to break it and send the platform crashing down, thereby allowing you to proceed. Go up the first hole you see in the ceiling by hopping onto the bookcase ***remember this area*** and into the next room, where you may grab the easy LEATHER ARMOR. Then run left up the stairs, killing off the Bats before they swoop at you, and up into the next room, where a POTION sits on the left next to a torch. Then keep going up, taking out Skeletons and Spearmen as you go (another POTION sits on a pedestal way up) and go up another ceiling hole to another room, where you can find a Save Point in the room to the left. Go right, taking out the Skeletons as you pass (and take the opportunity to raise a Level), but before entering the door, go up another hole to a new room with a HEART MAX INCREASE and a few Spearmen. Then go back down and right through the door to... Corridor of Marble ================== Items to Find: - Castle Map 1 - Ice Book - Heart Max Increase Keep right, and take out the Skeletons and Skeleton Soldiers (this room is apt opportunity to train up another Level) and into the next room to an encounter with...Death!! Surely you can't fight him so early...instead, he gives you a warning and then disappears. Then go into the room to the right, grab CASTLE MAP 1 and go up, whipping down a few more Spearmen and entering the room on the very left. In there, leap across the broken platforms and push the box on a platform to the right until it falls off onto the ground. Then keep pushing it left until you can hop up onto the higher ledge. Then keep going up, taking care of the Spearmen and entering another room right at the top...and in the room, you find the ICE BOOK and a HEART MAX INCREASE! Before we sally forward and challenge the Giant Bat we want to improve your power, so go back down and backtrack to the Entrance, where you went up the first hole in the ceiling you saw in the game. Entrance ======== Items to Find: - Leather Boots - Soul Orb - Life Max Increase Go right into the next area, and up another hole by a bookcase and grab the LEATHER BOOTS to the left. Whack up a few Skeletons while proceeding to the right and into the next area, which contains the SOUL ORB. Grab it and go back out, left and down the hole, and proceed right, killing off the Zombies as they come at you (train up another Level while you're here)...and before you enter the door top the right, you should see an irregularity in the floor, which is a thin metal platform. Press down and jump and you see fall into another area, where you may find a LIFE MAX INCREASE. The barrier here requires something you don't have to break, so just go back up and left and go back to the Corridor of Marble. Corridor of Marble ================== Items to Find: - Potion Go right and through the room where Death once appeared, into a large area with Spearmen. First go down the hole in the floor, and descend the platforms to find a POTION and two doorways at the bottom. These lead to the two Rooms of Illusion! Enter the left one... Rooms of Illusion ================= Items to Find: - Life Max Increase - Bandanna Kill off the Lizardmen and grab the LIFE MAX INCREASE (ignore the gap beneath the wall leading to a door and the Heart Max Increase beyond - remember this part, we'll come back here after the Living Armor), then exit that room and go into the right door, the second Room of Illusion. Go along, killing the Snake Heads and grabbing the BANDANNA. Then go back up into the Corridor of Marble. Corridor of Marble ================== Items to Find: - Leather Gloves - Red Stone - Fairy Journal Go up and enter the room to the right at the top, and go down while whipping the candles for some money into another room with several Fleamen. Take them down, go up the hole in the ceiling in this room and enter the room to the left to find the Save Point (the room on the right contains inaccessible stuff, and sad to say, we'll have ot backtrack a long way to get those. Remember this area!). Then go down and, in this room, run right and past the Snake Heads (they won't stone you this time) and grab the handy LEATHER GLOVES, and run into the room to the right. Here, jump to the far right at the top of the room and there is a RED STONE for your whip in an alcove. Then go all the way to the bottom, crunch a few more enemies, and enter the boss door to the left to find... ******************************************************************* ---------------------------------------- | BOSS : Giant Bat | HP : 400 | EXP : 66 | ---------------------------------------- Threat Level : 1.5/10 Attack Power : 2/10 What appears to be a room shrouded in red mist suddenly gives way to thousands of bats which converge to form a giant bat! The Giant Bat itself is very, very easy - its only weapon is spitting a slow-moving ball of fire which is easy to dodge. With your armament, the Giant Bat is probably nothing more but cannon fodder. Lash it repeatedly with your whip and if you have an Axe sub-weapon, hit it occasionally with an Axe and bring on your Ice Book to bring down an Icicle upon the Giant Bat! It should go down within minutes and submit to your power very soon. ******************************************************************* After the fight, go back into the room on the right and level up another level by fighting Snake Heads and Skeletons. Then go through the hole in the floor at the bottom of the room and in that room you will find the FAIRY JOURNAL. Then enter the door from there into the... Approach of Deplore =================== Items to Find: - Monster Tome - Silk Cape - Meat x 2 - Heart Max Increase - Sapphire - Potion - Circle of Energy - HP Max Increase Here, go downward, killing off the Spirits that appear randomly, as well as the Stone Knights. Then enter the doorway on the right at the bottom of the room, into a room which contains the MONSTER TOME and a Giant Spirit. If you have the Ice Book and the bible sub-weapon, you can cast guided Frost on the Giant Spirit to destroy it with ease. Then return to the room, and go through the (lowest) door to the right, taking out the Stone Knight on the way, and when you first enter, go right down and grab the SILK CAPE. Then go up and right (hmm, there's some Fancy Clothes in a small alcove above, but you can't reach it without the Silph Feather...remember this location) and down the passage with platforms and grab the MEAT at the bottom (yes, I know that Life Max Increase is tantalizing, but that'll have to wait!), and then enter the room on the right. Defeat the Fleaman and get the HEART MAX INCREASE! Fall through the hole into a new room. Proceed right through another doorway, grabbing the POTION and heading down the hole into a room filled with Fleamen. Drop down to the bottom, tackle the Fleamen and go down the first hole in the floor you see. Go right, killing off the Fleamen in the narrow corridor, and ***remember this area*** up a few platforms into a room. Grab the SAPPHIRE, kill the Fleaman, grab the MEAT, and go up into another area. Go right and you will meet up with a guardian (or, sub-boss), a ferociously powerful Sword Armor! After defeating it, stand onto the metal platform in the ground, press down and jump and go down into a small room which reveals the CIRCLE OF ENERGY! With more power, you may backtrack into the area with the narrow corridor and Fleamen ) and ignore the HP Max Increase beyond a narrow space in the wall (we'll come back to it after we kill the Living Armor, so remember this place!), and then keeping left and killing Fleamen as you go, enter a new room on the left. Go up the room, killing Skull Towers as you go, and enter the room at the very top. In this room, proceed left killing Fleamen, and at the end is a Bone Snake! Kill the Bone Snake, and grab the HP MAX INCREASE! Then backtrack to the right a little, and drop down the hole in this room into another room. Descend the platforms and go left - you will meet up with Maxim! You (Juste) asks whether Maxim is all right, and he answers arrogantly and refuses to follow you in your quest! Apparently, he's been addled about or something...never mind, Maxim soon leaves you, so enter the boss door to the left. Do healing if required, and arm yourself with the holy water sub-weapon. ******************************************************************* -------------------------------------------- | BOSS : Living Armor | HP : 900 | EXP : 110 | -------------------------------------------- Threat Level : 2/10 Attack Power : 3/10 The Living Armor is a step up in power, but is by no means much more difficult. It only has one way of attacking - marching at you, raising its sword and slicing down. It is slow-moving, and prone to getting hit badly by several lashes, holy water, and the Frost magic attack. You can see when it's about to attack, and to dodge the sword, simply dash backwards. Do not let yourself be cornered - use the platforms on each side of the room to jump over him. Keep attacking relentlessly and the Living Armor will break up and crash to the floor, defeated. ******************************************************************* After the battle, go into the room on the left... Heretic's Grave =============== Items to Find: - Gecko Tail ...where the GECKO TAIL awaits. Grab it, and now you may slide by pressing down+jump! The engraved pillar also descends with a rumble. Now exit the room. Approach of Deplore =================== Items to Find: - Life Max Increase Remember the HP Max Increase we couldn't reach in the room containing a narrow corridor with Fleamen, because we couldn't get under the narrow space in the wall? Now go back to that place, and slide under the wall to get the HP MAX INCREASE! Also, remember that area in the Corridor of Marble, a room (above a room with only a corridor with large candles and Snake Heads) which led left and right, left to a Save Point and right to a room with a gap beneath a wall and inaccessible stuff? Well, we'll be getting them! Backtrack all the way there, and I hope you still remember where it is! Corridor of Marble ================== Items to Find: - Fire Book - Thin Clothes - Heart Max Increase - Charm In that room, slide beneath the wall and enter the room beyond, to find the FIRE BOOK and the THIN CLOTHES! Then...remember the part in the right Room of Illusion, when you couldn't get beyond the wall to get the Heart Max Increase and the doorway beyond? Go there now, get the Zombies and Snake Heads out of the way and slide under the wall for a HEART MAX INCREASE! Then hop into the room and grab the CHARM! But before that, don't you notice that the room looks weird? It has a keyhole in the background...it's a teleporter to another place! Press up to use the teleporter. When you emerge, Juste will say something in astonishment, then enter the room to the right... Castle's Treasury ================= Items to Find: - Potion - Life Max Increase - Wrist Band - Uncurse - Heart Max Increase - Cross Armor - Chair Decoration Go right, killing off the Skeleton Boomerangs (sporting 33 EXP, they are excellent for training up levels) and proceed to the next room to the right. In this misty room, grab the POTION, proceed up the platforms, and enter the room on the left at the top. In the room, drop down the hole and descend the platforms. Go right, and you will encounter another guardian: the Gargoyle! This creature with blue wings is extremely dangerous, and its last attack, knife-like feathers, can kill you instantly. After it falls, grab the LIFE MAX INCREASE and go back up into the previous room. There, go left, defeat the Skeleton Daggers and enter the room beyond. In this room, proceed downwards, defeating the Spirits and grabbing the WRIST BAND on the way. There are also a few Skeleton Maces, and an UNCURSE potion. At the bottom, stand on the metal platform, and go down by pressing down and jump. The room leads to two more rooms, and the left one contains a HEART MAX INCREASE, the right a Save Point. Then go back up and out, up through the room with Spirits and Skeleton Maces, through the hall with Skeleton Daggers, until you reach the first room with left and right doors. Enter the room on the right, which has crystal walls. Ignore the hole in the floor, and proceed right, killing off Bomb Armors, and go up the platforms into the room above at the end of the crystal hall. Proceed upward, killing Ectoplasms and Skeletons, and at the very top lies the CROSS ARMOR! After that useful find, go back into the previous crystal hall, and go down the hole after that. In this room, go left, killing off Bomb Armors, Peeping Eyes and Skeleton Soldiers, and grab the CHAIR DECORATION (for Juste's room) at the end. Then hop down the hole in this room, and proceed right, killing Skeleton Soldiers, Skeleton Maces and Ectoplasms, until you reach a metal platform in the floor - go down by pressing down + jump. You find yourself in an area with winding passages downward, so hope downward and enter the first door you see to the left (Juste's own room is all the way below...if you want to visit it, go ahead). Cave of Skeletons ================= Items to Find: - Desk Decoration - Candlelabra Decoration - Silph Feather - Leather Cap - Life Max Increase - Foot Guarder - Potion - Heart Max Increase - Padded Armor Go downwards through the grim cave, killing Skeletons as you go, and drop down the hole below. You will enter a large area, with a doorway to the left ***remember this area***. Now enter it, and meet up with some tough Skeleton Axemen. At the very top on the left lies another decoration, the DESK DECORATION, in an alcove. Then go downwards until you see a huge, indestructible skull. What to do? Stand on the small platform it touches, face right toward the skull, duck and ship the skull's top. The skull will roll down a slope and crash into a small pit, where you may hop onto it to the other side. Drop down the platforms in the passage and kill the Skeleton Axemen in the corridor beyond. Then enter the room from the doorway below. You will find yourself in a huge area with Skeleton Hunchbacks. Kill them and go upward in the room by running up the huge skulls. On the floor in which a skull is propped up by some sticks, simply whip the sticks away and the skull will fall into place. Then grab the CANDLELABRA DECORATION at the top of the room, and enter the doorway on the left, into a room containing a humungous, swinging axe. Leap over it when it passes and walk left...soon, you will meet up with Maxim AGAIN! Apparently, he's turned evil, and soon after, he runs away again! Never mind, ignore him, and go left into a room full of Skeleton Soldiers and Blood Skeletons. Pick your way through the enemies and enter the door on the other side, to a Save Point! Hurrah! Restore your health and mana, save your game, and proceed left. The next room contains Skeleton Maces and Skeleton Hunchbacks, so get through the room (remember the location of the unreachable platform and hole in the ceiling, we'll be back after we defeat the Skull Knight) and enter the boss door opposite (the bible sub-weapon comes into handy here...also, remember to do your healing). ******************************************************************* --------------------------------------------- | BOSS : Skull Knight | HP : 1600 | EXP : 339 | --------------------------------------------- Threat Level : 7/10 Attack Power : 5/10 You enter the room to find a shield lying on the floor. Approach it, and it starts to wiggle...then a full-sized Skull Knight emerges...and the battle ensues! The Skull Knight may appear to be another softy at the beginning, with only a single, slow sword stab attack (dash backward when you see its sword sparkle). However, after you inflict a few hundred points of damage, the Skull Knight throws its sword and shield to the ground, its shield landing flat upon the floor, and disappears...and soon reappears under its shield, minus its sword, and plus its rage mode! The second attack begins with a growing glow around the Skull Knight's body, followed by charging a short distance forward before warping into thin air...and then reappearing at your position in a second! This is dangerous, but not unavoidable; dodge by jumping the moment it disappears. The Skull Knight is vulnerable when it is glowing (i.e. about to charge!), and when it reappears. Inflict another few more hundred points of damage on it, and it will fall again...and rise from beneath its shield, this time with no weaponry! Its third and final attack is a charged-up beam which lasts a few seconds and does big damage. Duck it, slide underneath the beam and lash him a few times. You should be able to get 7 or 8 lashes each time. After about 17 or so hits, it will go down in a mighty blast! ******************************************************************* After the mighty battle, enter the room on the left, and you will find the SILPH FEATHER! Magnificent, now you may double jump! Now go back into the room to the right of the boss room, and backtrack to the previously unreachable platform. Now, with the double jump, you may reach it! You will enter a room which has left and right doorways; enter the left one, and descend the bone platforms and enter the room at the bottom. In the new room, whip the supports of the huge stone structure, mount the stone and go up along the respective floors, defeating Skeleton Crossbones (who toss little bouncy crossbones) and getting the LEATHER CAP. That being done, backtrack to the room with the left and right doorways...and this time, get into the right one, which leads to a room containing a Golden Skeleton. Defeat it, pass through the next room to the right, and defeat the four Skeleton Crossbones. Then enter the room beyond, and drop down the hole to find a LIFE MAX INCREASE! After that, backtrack all the way to the room with the left and right doorways, and drop down the hole back into the room with Skeleton Hunchbacks and Skeleton Boomerangs. Now...keep backtracking right, past the room with the giant axe, the rooms where you found the Candlelabra and Desk Decorations, the room with a corridor of Skeleton Spears and the giant skull, and stop at the room after. Go downward, and tackle the Skeleton Spider. Drive it backwards into its hole in the wall, and when you reach a place where you can go up or down (just before the Spider's hole), go up. Then run left, destroying the feeble Skeleton Soldiers in your way, and grab the FOOT GUARDER. Then go down, and take the lower route this time. Go all the way down, and before dropping down the hole, grab the POTION a few platforms upward. In the new cave you have dropped into, smash up the Skeleton Spider on the left. Then go right once more, killing off another Skeleton Spider, and enter the room to your right. Ascend the room and kill off the Skull Towers, and double jump to the room at the top. Grab the HEART MAX INCREASE, and go back down. After that, we'll be doing some serious backtracking. Go all the way back, past the dank cave with bone platforms and Skeletons, to the hall with platforms and the entrance to Juste's Room at the bottom. Here, go upwards, and leap into the room above. Go right, killing off Ectoplasms and Skeleton Maces, and go up the hole on the right of the room. In the subsequent room, take the lift (you know, that box which goes up and down the shafts) all the way up. Then exit to the right, and go up the hole in the ceiling to the right, at the top of the room. Then in that room, follow the winding passage up to the top, and double jump to find the HEART MAX INCREASE on a pedestal to the left, and PADDED ARMOR to the right! Now backtrack to the room to the hall with platforms and the entrance to Juste's Room at the bottom, and enter the door on the right, to... Moss-grown Cave =============== Items to Find: - Uncurse - Verdant Jewel - Heart Max Increase - Unknown Hero Bust Decoration - Potion - Mana Prism - Utensils Decoration - Life Max Increase - Mirror Decoration - Yellow Stone - Hi-Potion When you enter, go right, destroying the Axe Armors and Bats, and enter the room on the right. Whip the first candle you see for an UNCURSE potion, then continue on and upward through Axe Armors and Ectoplasms to the next room, which contains a Witch and several Spore Plants (I shall call this room the room of the Spore Plants, for easy reference). Before proceeding through the room, go up the hole in the ceiling and you will end up in a room with a winding passage and a VERDANT JEWEL for your trouble. Then return to the previous room, and proceed right, killing off the Spore Plants (be careful of their poison-causing spores), and drop down the hole in that room into another room, full of Witches. Go left through this room, destroying the Witches, and drop down into yet another room. Defeat the Axe Armors and grab the HEART MAX INCREASE on the right, and return to the Spore Plant room once more. Save at the Save Point in the room to your right. Then advance into the room on the right, kill off the Skeleton Hunchback and Skeleton Crossbones, then go upwards and grab the UNKNOWN HERO BUST DECORATION in an alcove to the right and the MANA PRISM to the left, guarded by a Skeleton Hunchback. Then enter the next room to the right. Descend below to find 2 Bomb Armors in alcoves. Destroy these, and grab the POTION next to one of the Armors. Go up to the top and destroy the Spore Plant. Then return to the previous room to the left, and follow the passages downward. Then drop down the hole at the bottom, into a small cave with passages leading left and right. Take left, destroy the Bomb Armor, and go down the hole at the end. The following cave containing Poison Slimes (blue-green), Stone Slimes (pink) and Curse Slimes (yellow). Enter the room to the right, wipe out the numerous Skull Towers and Cursed Nymphs (grab the UTENSILS DECORATION as you go) and enter the room at the end. There, leap onto the platform with a wooden box on it, and push it to the right until it falls. Then keep maneuvring it to the bottom, and push it onto a switch. When the door slides open, enter the room beyond and get the LIFE MAX INCREASE! Then backtrack out the room, through the room with the wooden box, the room with the Cursed Nymphs and Skull Towers, up through the room with the Slimes and Bloody Swords, until you reach the room with the Bomb Armors and Bloody Swords. Take the passage to the right, kill off the Bomb Armor and Bloody Sword, and enter the boss door beyond... ******************************************************************* -------------------------------------- | BOSS : Golem | HP : 1408 | EXP : 273 | -------------------------------------- Threat Level : 3/10 Attack Power : 4.5/10 The Golem, to cut a long story short, is easy beyond belief, at least with the kind of stuff that you are armed with currently. Its first attacks consist of stomping on the ground, causing rocks to fall from the ceiling - these are easily dodged. His second attack is a punch, which is slow to execute and is easily ducked. All the while, he is vulnerable to getting lashed. Once you inflict several hundred points of damage, some of the Golem's body breaks off, revealing a red crystal in its core! It becomes a little bit harder, as you can only aim for the red crystal - but if you have the Ice Book and holy water sub-weapon, the crystal is toast. The only attack the Golem has at this stage is the crystal spitting out streams of small rocks doing little damage (you'll know it's going to, when the Golem shifts its arm to a horizontal position). Jump and lash the crystal repeatedly until it shatters, and the Golem turns into dust...and falls! ******************************************************************* After the Golem is defeated, exit through the right door and in the following room, go right and mount the wooden platform. A door shuts behind you - oh no! But wait, lash the switch on the wall with your whip! Immediately, tainted water streams from an upward source and fills the room, and your platform rises...swat away the Spirits that attack you with a spin of your whip. When your platform reaches the top of the shaft, proceed left (past the gruesomely impaled arm) and into the room on the left. Immediately, Stone, Poison and Curse Slimes welcome you. Greet them with a few lashes of your whip, and proceed into the room beyond...and you get the MIRROR DECORATION and the YELLOW STONE for your whip for all this trouble! Then exit the room and drop down the shaft, and backtrack alllllll the way to the room of Spore Plants. Drop down the hole in the room, and blast past the numerous Witches in the following room. Then go down the hole, into a room with Axe Armors. Find your way to the hole downwards into another cave on the right at the bottom, and in that cave, descend the platforms, grab the HI-POTION at the bottom and enter the doorway to the right. In the new room, dispose of the grisly Bloody Swords by lashing the impaled bodies on their blades once, then enter the room beyond. In that room, go up the winding path, destroying Cursed Nymphs as you go. Double-jump up onto the final ledge, and enter the room at the top, into another room with a Spore Plant. Kill it, and enter the room beyond, into a teleporter room...press up, and you will teleport away into a new room. When you emerge, exit the teleporter room into... Corridor in the Air =================== Items to Find: - Life Max Increase - Hi-Potion - Antidote - Dark Glasses - Face Guard - Hint Card 2 - Nova Ring In the first room, go right, and you will meet Maxim once more! You lament on his decision, and tell him that you will eventually get rid of him. He answers contemptously and is out of here (as always)...now go through the doorway into a stairway with clouds as the backdrop! First off, in the room, do not enter the upper left doorway. It leads to a room blocked off by a barrier you can't destroy unless you have the Crash Stone. ***remember this area*** Smack down the Spore Balloons (the spores ejected are poisonous!), drop all the way down into an open area with still more Balloons and Skeleton Gargoyles, and grab the LIFE MAX INCREASE on a platform to the left. After that, go back upward all the way, grab the HI-POTION from a ledge slightly above, slaughter the Grand Squid and the several Skeleton Gargoyles at the top and double jump to grab the ANTIDOTE on a high ledge. Then enter the doorway on the right, into a room full of Skeleton Archers. Take the higher route, and kill off the Skeleton Archers. Train up to at least Level 17 or up, then enter the room at the top to the right, which leads to... ******************************************************************* -------------------------------------- | BOSS : Devil | HP : 2176 | EXP : 627 | -------------------------------------- Threat Level : 8/10 Attack Power : 7/10 Now this is what I call a tough boss, even tougher since you don't have the Dracula's Eye relic to prevent you from being cursed. When cursed, you can only walk and not run, and cannot use your dash or slide. This will put you to a great disadvantage against the quick Devil. If this isn't bad enough, a single touch from the Devil can curse you (occasionally, you will escape unscathed)! The Devil also retains the same two attacks all through the battle. The first is a charged up flaming punch, which is supremely short-ranged and is easily dodged. The Devil cocks his arm and charges up energy, then brings it forward very swiftly. The second is a concentrated orange beam which is relatively thin and lasts a few seconds. Also easy to dodge, and the Devil is very vulnerable if you manage to get behind it in the midst of its attack. Always use magic and keep whipping this feller from a distance. Alternatively, you could just use the fist sub-weapon on its own, or meld it with the Fire Book to unleash fireballs. Get cursed as little times as possible, and watch out when the Devil rears up higher - it's about to make for the ground, so get out of the way. Persevere and victory is yours! ******************************************************************* If you survive, make an exit right and grab the DARK GLASSES on a ledge above. Then return to the boss room, and exit to the left, back into the room full of Skeleton Archers. Go right to the bottom of this room, and go down the hole into yet another room with a fountain. In that room, go left, defeat all the weapons of the polterg pst-controlled Ruler Sword Level 1, and drop down the metal platform in the small room beyond. You will then find yourself in a dark room. Equip the Dark Glasses and you'll be able to see more of the room. First, go downwards a little (don't sally forth to the right yet) and grab the FACE GUARD in a corner. Then go right, dodging the spikes, and go down the hole at the very end, into yet another dark room. Straightaway, go downwards again, and you will see a gap beneath a wall to the very right of this room. Slide beneath it and collect the convenient HINT CARD 2, then keep going left over the spikes, and after crossing 3 spike pits you will see a lower route narrow enough to slide under the spikes. So slide through the route, collect the NOVA RING, and continue left until you find a door. Go through it. Waterway of the Aquatic ======================= Items to Find: - Heart Max Increase x 2 - Dracula's Fingernail - Blue Stone - Life Max Increase Go down the room, and into the hole at the bottom, down into yet another room. Take care of the several Toadfishes, and go down into another room at the end, where Razorfins lie in wait for you. Go left, killing them all, and collect the HEART MAX INCREASE at the end. Then proceed right through the room, killing more Razorfins. Drop down the hole at the right end of the room and proceed left in the following room into a tall hall. Go downwards and into the doorway at the bottom, which contains nothing but a Scale Armor and a large wall! Defeat the Scale Armor, go towards the wall and double jump...into a hidden passage. Go through and you will find DRACULA'S FINGERNAIL. Then go back to the room where you got your previous Heart Max Increase, and enter the doorway to the right. In that room, keep right, killing the Razorfins and Toadfishes, and grab the BLUE STONE at the very end. Then backtrack into the previous room on the left, and in that room, go up the platforms into the hole in the ceiling. There, equip your Blue Stone, and if you ain't yet at level 20, I suggest going to powerup now! If so, go right through the boss door and say hello to... ******************************************************************* ---------------------------------------------- | BOSS : Giant Merman | HP : 3520 | EXP : 1298 | ---------------------------------------------- Threat Level : 8/10 Attack Power : 7/10 Now this is another tough bastard. His strong attacks are mainly summoning of his minions, namely Razorfins and Toadfish, which can attack in numbers and overwhelm you easily. Don't let them corner you. His other attacks are his rolling-up-into-a-ball-and-spinning-at-you, as well as his water wave which travels slowly across the screen. Both are dodged easily. With the Blue Stone, your battle should be easier; use the cross sub-weapon frequently and if needed, combine with the Ice Book. ******************************************************************* When the Merman finally goes down, enter the room to the right to grab the LIFE MAX INCREASE and HEART MAX INCREASE! Then enter the door to the right to... Clockwork Tower =============== Items to Find: - Heart Max Increase - Castle Map 2 - Hint Card 4 - Life Max Increase - Scale Armor - Guardian Armor, Boots, Helmet, Gauntlet - Table Decoration - Emerald Go up, and enter the first door to the left. Defeat the Golden Skeletons and go up the hole in the room to another room with a doorway leading right. Go into the next room and defeat the six Skull Towers to get the HEART MAX INCREASE they guard. Then exit the room back into the room with Golden Skeletons, and backtrack into the tall room before that. Now go all the way up, through the hole into another room... ...where a switch awaits. Depress it, and a door slides open. Go through, and proceed right, defeating the Spectre Knights; you can see their sword, but you can't see their body! Whip at the area near the sword hilt; that should guarantee a hit. If you see can't see them, wait until a pink image of them flickers into view, then attack. Then go up the hole at the other side of the room. In the next room, go left, mounting the swinging pendulums to cross the spike pits. Drop down the hole at the end, into a small area with a pit full of bouncing Fleamen. Throw a well-aimed axe or holy water into the pit to eradicate them all, then grab CASTLE MAP 2. Then go back up into the previous room, and proceed left through the doorway. Straight when you enter, watch out for the Golden Harpies flying around! They do massive damage with each diving strike, but are easily taken care of with a couple of whip strikes. Before you enter any of the 4 doorways in this room, drop right to the bottom and snatch the BURGEONET helmet. Then go up and enter the topmost doorway in the tower to a room with Medusa Heads (they turn you to stone!) and grab HINT CARD 4 at the top of the room. Then retreat back into the tower and enter the doorway second from the top, into a long hall with Golden Harpies and Disc Armors. Go up the hole in the ceiling into a small room with a LIFE MAX INCREASE, back down into the previous hall, and proceed right, killing off Golden Harpies and the Disc Armors. Grab the SCALE ARMOR at the very end (yes!). Then backtrack to the tower, and enter the doorway third from top. In the new room you enter, go right, killing the Fleamen and Disc Armor, and enter the doorway to the right. Make sure you are armed with the axe-subweapon (found at the bottom of the tower) and go through. The only enemy in this room is a Ruler Sword Level 2, a deadly enemy unleashing mini-swords which spin around it. Using the Ice Book and the axe sub-weapon, let fly with an icicle from the heavens when all the swords are close together. You'll destroy all the mini-swords at once, and deal big damage to the Ruler Sword. Then destroy the Ruler Sword Level 2, and enter the room beyond, which consists of winding staircases leading to the top. Destroy the Medusa Heads and Golden Harpies, and enter the first room to the right. In that room, instead of going down ***remember this area***, enter another room to the right, and pick your way to a doorway at the other side, where nothing more than a giant Guardian Armor - indestructible by your whip and magic - and cogs at the end of the room exist. What to do? Do you notice that one of the Guardian Armor's legs is darker than the other, i.e. it is shadowed? Well, whip the knee of the brighter leg when it is not shielded, and the Guardian Armor will stumble back. To facilitate your job, double-jump over the Guardian Armor and wait until it has all but cornered you into the cogs. Then, double-jump back over it, and drive it backwards into the cogs. When you successfully do so, the Guardian Armor horribly grinds into the cogs...and with a mighty blast, it expels the full suit of Guardian armor, the GUARDIAN ARMOR, GUARDIAN HELM, GUARDIAN GAUNTLET and GUARDIAN BOOTS! What a lucky find! Be sure to grab and equip everything for maximum protection, exit the room and pick your way back to the other side and back into the room before that. In that room, descend the wooden platforms and go downwards, killing off Golden Harpies, ignoring the doorway to the right, until you reach the bottom. Kill the Bone Snake and take the TABLE DECORATION it was guarding. Then go back all the way up into the previous room to the left, and go up again, this time entering the next room to the right for a Save Point. Use it if required, and then go back into the previous room and all the way up to the boss door. ******************************************************************* ------------------------------------------- | BOSS : Max Slime | HP : 3680 | EXP : 1479 | ------------------------------------------- Threat Level : 2/10 Attack Power : 2/10 ARRRGHHH!!! The Max Slime is another terribly easy boss, and to make it even easier, it's sluggishly slow. It has two modes - poison (green) and stone (orange) so if you touch it when it's green, you'll be poisoned, and if it's orange, you'll be petrified. Still, I doubt you'll actually touch it because it's S L O W. Anyway, in both modes, it only has one attack all through the battle, and that is spitting out little droplets of itself, dealing 1 point of damage upon contact and no ailments. It will sometimes stick to the ceiling and drop droplets from there. In all, the Max Slime is more exasperating than hard, and whipping it as well as daggers will eventually drain its 3680 health. ******************************************************************* After the battle, exit right, then go up the tall room. Enter the first doorway to the left, and kill the Gargoyles to get the EMERALD on a pedestal. Then exit back into the previous room, and go all the way up and enter the doorway there. In the room you enter, you encounter Death once more! He tells you about the existence of a second world, with totally different things, then leaves through the teleporter. Now, this is a teleporter leading to Castle B, the same castle with different things! Press up and off you go! ---------- -CASTLE B- ---------- Clockwork Tower =============== Items to Find: - Life Max Increase x 2 - Clock Decoration - Healing Armor - Heart Choker - Lucky Ring - Ornament Decoration - Heart Max Increase - Kaiser Knuckleguard - X-Potion - Squall Mantle Exit the teleporter room, go down and enter the first doorway to the left. It contains several Armored Fleamen - whip them once to smash the armor away, and whip the Fleaman. Also, wipe the Peeping Eyes before they can activate, and grab the LIFE MAX INCREASE at the end, then go back into the previous room and enter the doorway at the bottom. Pass through that room, eradicating the two Skeleton Daggers, and go into the room beyond, to find yourself in another tall hall with winding staricases. Grab the CLOCK DECORATION from a platform, then go downward, entering the second room to the right (the first and topmost contains the Save Point). Go down the metal platform and not the right doorway ***remember this area***, and go downward, swatting away Snake Heads. Enter the first doorway to the right. The room you enter contains nothing more than a switch which controlls a hammer (step on the switch and make the hammer swing; and make a note on where it swings), and a giant green Living Armor. Don't smash it; wait until it comes within the radius of the swing of the hammer, then when it is, press the switch; W H A M!! The Living Armor flies across the room, smashes into pieces an otherwise indestructible wall and itself. Go through the cleared doorway, and down into the room below. In that room, go all the way down (ignore the door to the right). If you want to, you may save in the room to the left at the bottom, otherwise descend the metal platform into a room with a tremendous pipe and ball bearing. Now, if you want to get fabulous prizes, you have to race ahead of the ball (the path is linear and easy to figure out), so you must dash all the way. Start the race by standing on the button; the ball goes travelling, and the door opens; the race is on (at one point, there is a gap beneath a wall wide enough to slide through, but you can't lose time. Remember that place, we'll be back to it after the race!)! The only threats in your way are the numerous Fleamen which hit you and slow you down, but the moment they come in range, cut them down with a lash and keep doing. The signal that the race is ending is an upward passage with wooden platforms; ascend it and if the ball hasn't wedged into a corner and prevented you from sliding through the gap, slide through into the small room and double-jump for the HEALING ARMOR on the high ledge and double-jump again for the HEART CHOKER on another ledge! After that, slide through the gap at the upper ledge, press the switch to open the door, and backtrack to that room you missed while you were racing. Slide through the gap and enter the room to find the LUCKY RING and ORNAMENT DECORATION! Then exit this huge room, and go up the extremely long shaft once more, and go back left through the room where the hammer and the unfortunate Living Armor once was, back into another tall tower and upward all the way, swatting away Snake Heads. Then enter the doorway to the right. It leads to a room where a rack, connected to a cog, blocks the way. Whip the cog from the left side a few times to move the rack, then pick your way to the doorway on the other side. It leads to a long tunnel, so proceed right along the tunnel and into a room with a Bone Snake and an Disc Armor. Destroy them both and grab the HEART MAX INCREASE. Then backtrack out this room into the previous room, and pick your way back to the other side, left through the following tall tower and into another shaft with winding staircases and Peeping Eyes. If you're feeling brave, go all the way down the shaft and enter the boss room. ******************************************************************* --------------------------------------------- | BOSS : Peeping Big | HP : 2000 | EXP : 1981 | --------------------------------------------- Threat Level : 5/10 Attack Power : 4/10 At first, you notice nothing more than a Peeping Eye in here; but when you wipe it out, Mr. Peeping Big comes along!! And really, it's nothing special. It has three basic attacks: the first a flick of its spiky eye- tail (when it cocks its tail - watch out!), the second a wild swinging of its eye-tail, and the third attack is closing of its eye and folding of its tail, such that it is an indestructible ball, and then it goes bouncing around the room - but all those are easy to dodge. Just keep whipping it and using the Ice Book and dagger sub-weapon and it will eventually explode into thousands of Peeping Eyes and vaporise... ******************************************************************* Then exit the boss room to the left, and grab the easy LIFE MAX INCREASE. Kill all the Arahabakis in this room and go up the hole to another room above. Cut down the Spirits and the Spectre Knight, and enter the doorway to the left. Now you will find yourself in the tower which had many Golden Harpies in Castle A. Well, enter the doorway at the top of the tower and go upward in the room, smashing torches for money and hearts, and snag the KAISER KNUCKLEGUARD at the top. Then enter the room second from top, kill off all the Spectre Knights and Spirits, grab the X-POTION, and go up the hole in the room into a small room (where you had once gotten a Life Max Increase) and snatch the easy SQUALL MANTLE. Also, enter the bottom-most doorway in the tower, and go down the first hole you see. You will enter a room with the famed Crash Stone for your whip ***remember this area*** - but a giant screw blocks the gap, so you can't reach it! Never mind, we'll be back after we've dealt with the screw (no pun intended)... When that's all done, retreat back into the tower, and enter the only door in the tower, to the left. Corridor in the Air =================== Items to Find: - Mana Prism - Bed Decoration - Heart Max Increase Go left and up, snatching the MANA PRISM from a ledge, and if you're Level 25 and above, I suggest going into the boss door now (in all truth, we just fought a boss! So do your healing). ******************************************************************* ---------------------------------------- | BOSS : Legion | HP : 1920 | EXP : 2230 | ---------------------------------------- Threat Level : 5/10 Attack Power : 5/10 At first, the Legion may look like a pretty difficult boss, but in fact, it's pretty easy. You have to first smack off the four quadrants of the Legion, then mount your attack on the eye, destroy it and you will win. When the first quadrant drops off, you can actually damage the eye at that point. The only attack it has is sending out Mini-Legions which can be disposed off with a flick of your whip. You have to worry more about not bumping into its huge, almost immobile mass while attacking it. When you fully expose the eye, i.e. destroy all four quadrants, four snake-like tubes grow out of the eye, and occasionally, one or two or them may fire beams of energy. These are easily avoided; just keep whacking the eye with daggers and your whip until it eventually goes down! ******************************************************************* After the boss battle, exit the room left and in that large room following, go up the first passage you see leading upward to another room. Go to the upper-left portion of the new room you are in, follow the winding path, wrecking all the Class-2 Axe Armors, and double-jump to get your BED DECORATION at the top. Then go to the upper-right portion of this room, and grab the HEART MAX INCREASE from a high ledge (you need to double-jump). Then go all the way back down into the previous room, and keep going right until you spot another passageway leading up to another room. Well, go up the platforms and into... Chapel of a Heretic =================== Items to Find: - Famous Bust Decoration - Hi-Potion - Heart Max Increase - Hi-Mana Prism - Large Meat In the small room, kill the Spriggan guardian and proceed left into the room beyond. Then go up the winding path in this room, grabbing the HI- POTION as you go, and go up the shaft in the room to another room filled with Skeleton Spears. Kill them off and go up another shaft to another room, this time filled with Class-2 Axe Armors. Then go up the shaft in that room to a huge stained-glass hall. In the hall, go right and upwards, killing off the Spectre Knights and grabbing the FAMOUS BUST DECORATION from a small alcove above the second Spectre Knight and the HEART MAX INCREASE in another alcove guarded by a Spectre Knight as well. Then go all the way to the top, ignoring the orange flashing door (you can't open it without Maxim's Bracelet), and use platforms to jump up to the HI-MANA PRISM. Then go to the upper- right corner of the room (to the very right of the orange flashing door, in case you're lost), where HINT CARD 6 lies. Ignore the tantalizing Life Max Increase, and go all the way back down through the various rooms of the Chapel of the Heretic, back through the room where the Spriggan once stood, into the large room containing Axe Armors and Arahabakis. In that room, go all the way down this room and find a way down into another room at the bottom (save at the Save Point in the room to the right). Go left through that room, blasting away all the Class-2 Axe Armors, and take the LARGE MEAT from a platform. Then, in the area where you found the Large Meat, drop down the metal platform into another room. In the new room you have dropped into, you will notice there are a few interesting mirrors; your reflected image shows a skeleton enemy! When you walk pass the mirrors though, the "enemy" behind the mirrors mysteriously moves independently; and then jumps out as the Skeleton Mirrors! Kill them all in the present room, then go down into another room through a hole at the right end of the room. The room you enter contains still more Skeleton Mirrors. Go left, killing them all, and enter the door to the very left. Waterway of the Aquatic ======================= Items to Find: - X-Potion - Life Max Increase Go downward in this room, killing off Poison Skeletons as you go. Then go down the hole at the bottom and enter the room below, where gruesomely mauled Melt Zombies lie in wait for you. One touch can curse you, so watch out! Kill the three Melt Zombies, and drop down the hole at the end into another room filled with more Melt Zombies! In that room, go left, kill the enemies in your way and grab the X- POTION. Proceed right through the room after that, destroying the rest of the Melt Zombies and entering the room to the right, which contains more Melt Zombies guarding a LIFE MAX INCREASE at the end of the room. When you get it, go back to the previous room and go up the hole in the ceiling to another room. In that room, get the Cross sub-weapon from one of the candles and enter the room to the right... ...and get greeted by several Toadfish and Razorfins, all in a row! Immediately, throw two crosses and start whipping like hell! When you get past, enter the room beyond and kill off the Small Slimes and Poison Skeletons. Enter the door at the right end of the room into the... Clockwork Tower =============== Items to Find: - Invincibility Elixir - Hi-Mana Prism - Crash Stone Go up the shaft, killing off Skeleton Boomerangs and enter the first doorway to the left. In there, wipe out the Class-2 Disc Armor and go up the hole to another room with nothing more than an INVINCIBILITY ELIXIR! Enter the room to the right and you will see a long golden shaft, which is actually part of the screw blocking your way to the Crash Stone previously! Whip the shaft until the bit at the top clicks into the place in the slot. There will be a noise upstairs; in other words, the Crash Stone is now free! Now backtrack out of there, out the room with the Class-2 Disc Armor, back into the tall room with Skeleton Boomerangs. Proceed to the top and into the room above, and proceed right, killing off Fleamen and Class-2 Disc Armors, until you reach the end of the room. Go up the hole in the ceiling there, and snag a HI- POTION to the right. Then cross the spike pits via the pendulums to the left, grabbing an easy HI-MANA PRISM as you go. At the end, drop down the hole into the room which holds the CRASH STONE easily obtainable by sliding under the cleared gap! After that, go up and back into the tower and enter the only door in the tower to the left. Corridor in the Air =================== Items to Find: - Blizzard Robe - Dracula's Heart - Life Max Increase Go alllll the way to the very left of this large room, and enter the doorway at the top of a long flight of stairs. In the room that follows, go all the way to the left once more (there's a suit of body armor you can grab; go down the metal platform at the top right doorway in this room, and keep going downwards until you see the BLIZZARD ROBE on a small ledge. Makes you more resistance for the boss battle to come! Also enter the Save Point at the bottom right corner of the room, charge up the Crash Stone and whip the right wall to reveal a room containing the DRACULA'S HEART relic), and enter the doorway there, into a room previously unpassable. With the Crash Stone equipped, charge your whip up to the full and unleash a lash of tremendous power onto the barrier. It will break, so pass, grabbing the LIFE MAX INCREASE, and then enter the boss room beyond... ******************************************************************* ---------------------------------------- | BOSS : Shadow | HP : 1600 | EXP : 2362 | ---------------------------------------- Threat Level : 7.5/10 Attack Power : 6.5/10 When you first enter, you encounter Maxim, who talks some stuff about being evil before summoning the Shadow to the room! If not for the fact that you don't have the Crash Stone, the Shadow well might be the toughest boss so far (and that doesn't say much, anyway). In its ordinary form (i.e. a demonic face) the Shadow cannot be damaged. But when it transforms into its respective three forms, it can be damaged. The first form is a jungle cat, which has two attacks: it yowls, and then it dashes or pounces across the room. All are easily dodged, and by jumping over the dashing cat or sliding under the pounce, you can then turn around and sting the Shadow a few times with charged attacks. In its second form, a saber, it has only one attack - the saber merely swishes around here and there. But there's one snag - touch the saber, and you're cursed. Period. Its third form is a moth, and this is the most dangerous of them all - it glides across the room, dropping poisonous spores who inflict good damage and poison you as well. You must first elude the spores, then jump and whip the moth when you can. The Shadow will cycle through these forms, and when its defeated, it will cycle rapidly and repeatedly into its forms and finally vaporises. ******************************************************************* Still alive? Congratulations! Now exit and now I want you to backtrack alllllllll the way to the teleporter from Castle A. Make use of the map - I won't bother to list how to get back. ---------- -CASTLE A- ---------- Now backtrack all the way to the room where you fought the Devil in the Corridor in the Air. Corridor in the Air =================== Items to Find: - Invincibility Elixir x 2 - Maxim's Bracelet In the Devil boss room, go left through the doorway, and in the following room, go all the way to the bottom right corner of this room and enter the doorway into the save room adjacent to the hole in the floor. In the Save Point, charge up your whip and smash the rock barrier on the right, and enter the freed chamber for two INVINCIBILITY ELIXIRS. Then go back into the room to the left of the Save Point, and exit through the only doorway at the left side of that room, into another large room with a Grand and Balloons and Skeleton Gargoyles. This time, enter the doorway at the upper left portion of this room, into a room which was once barred by an indestructible barrier; since destroying that barrier, you may now pass into a room to the very left. In the room you enter, go left and you will meet up with Maxim...this time, he's panting and helpless on the floor and has appeared to have recovered from evil side. He gives you MAXIM'S BRACELET - now exit the room and return to the large room with Spore Squids and Skeleton Gargoyles. There, find the doorway on the right side of the room and enter it into the large room filled with Skeleton Archers. Go up the first hole in the ceiling to the right... Chapel of a Heretic =================== Items to Find: - Antidote - Heart Max Increase - Verdant Mantle - Potion ...and you'll meet up with some Spore Squids. Defeat them, go on to another room with two Skeleton Archers, and from there go through the passage in that room. In the large room following, go upwards through the winding path and into the room above. There, go upwards still, and grab the ANTIDOTE on the right. Then go upwards again, into a large stained-glass chapel. Go upwards in the chapel, grabbing the HEART MAX INCREASE from a small alcove as you go (you need to double-jump) and the VERDANT MANTLE from a ledge. Before entering the orange-flashing door, grab the POTION from an alcove right at the top, then equip Maxim's Bracelet and enter the orange door into the... Castle Tower ============ Items to Find: - Hint Card 3 - Life Max Increase - Heart Max Increase - Portrait Decoration - Steel Whiphead Smash the barrier with a charged up whip attack, then go up the blood- covered stairs (snag the cross sub-weapon from a ledge first) and enter the teleporter room at the top (we'll return to the teleporter after defeating the first Minotaur). In there, grab HINT CARD 3 and enter the boss room. ******************************************************************* ---------------------------------------- | BOSS : Pazuzu | HP : 4500 | EXP : 2640 | ---------------------------------------- Threat Level : 8/10 Attack Power : 8/10 If the Shadow was tough, the Pazuzu, a mighty mythical creature with some semblance to a minotaur, is even tougher. Even equipped with Guardian Armor, bumping into it alone deals out more than 50 points of damage. It has three attacks. The first is repeated leaping all over the room. This is very dangerous, because if he catches you out he can deal out about 60 points of damage. He will also hover in the air and dive. The second is spitting out several red swirling balls of energy. When you deal a few thousand points of damage to him, he will spit three times more energy balls out. There are hard to dodge, especially when you are cornered. The third is summoning four of his Small Devil minions. Simply lash them away. The Pazuzu is extremely difficult to destroy and may require several tries and lots of Potions to defeat. Smash it regularly with crosses and unleash charged up whip attacks, and the Pazuzu will eventually explode mightily into oblivion. ******************************************************************* After the victory, exit the boss room to the left, where you will find your second friend, Liddy, in the room. She and you converse a bit before Death appears and kidnaps her. Never mind, enter the tower to the left and go upwards to find money, a LIFE MAX INCREASE and HEART MAX INCREASE on ledges. Then press the switch, and go down the platforms and into the room the passage leads to. Save your game there, then enter the large room to the right. The room you enter contains two tricky adversaries, Lizard Poisoners! Take them down carefully without getting stricken by their poison gas, and if your level is an even number, find the merchant's room to the right in this large room and stock up your stuff there. When you're done, descend all the way to the bottom and down the hole into another long room where two Lizard Poisoners lurk and many candles containing large hearts are. Get the PORTRAIT DECORATION at the right end of the room, then go down the hole into tall tower with an elevator. Before entering the boss room at the top right, go down one floor in the elevator from the top, and you will see an X-Potion on your way down. When the elevator stops, exit, go upwards and grab the X-POTION, then enter the boss room. Going in below level 35 is suicide, so watch out! ******************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------ | BOSS : Minotaur First | HP : 4200 | EXP : 3228 | ------------------------------------------------ Threat Level : 6.5/10 Attack Power : 8.5/10 This Minotaur is slow and doesn't move that much (so it's more vulnerable), but even more powerful than the Pazuzu, and a single touch from its iron ball or its body can inflict big damage. Make sure you stock up with Potions, and take the Fist sub-weapon to this bugger. The Minotaur has but one attack; and that is whirling its chain-ball and flinging it forward to a length about a third of a room. Do not be cornered when it uses this attack, or you'll be hit at least once or twice, and that is very bad already. You must always keep an eye on how the chain-ball whirls about, so you can dodge it before it comes your way! Persevere and the Minotaur's head falls off and the body vaporizes, leaving your victorious! ******************************************************************* After the battle, grab the STEEL WHIPHEAD for your whip from the chamber to the right of the boss room and exit through the left gate. Now backtrack to the teleporter we came upon before fighting the Pazuzu. When you reach there, teleport off to Castle B once more... ---------- -CASTLE B- ---------- Castle Tower ============ Items to Find: - Mystic Robe - Potion - Hi-Potion - Life Max Increase - Wind Book When you arrive, exit the teleporter room to the left and knock out the Golden Skeletons you see in the room. Snag the MYSTIC ROBE from a platform and go left through another room into a tower. There is no switch to open the downward path in Castle B's Castle Tower, so simply descend the platforms and follow the passageway into the next room, save your game in that room and go into the room beyond, where Skeleton Daggers and Skeleton Spears lie in wait for you. Destroy them all, grab the POTION from a ledge and descend into the large hall below. Descend the stairways, blasting past the Skeleton Boomerangs, Ectoplasms and Skeleton Spears as you go, and fall through the hole at the bottom into a long room. Go right, bashing the Skeleton Daggers and the single Disc Armor, grab the HI-POTION at the right end of the room and go down the hole into another large hall with more stairways. Then enter the boss room to the right... ******************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------- | BOSS : Minotaur Second | HP : 4200 | EXP : 3228 | ------------------------------------------------- Threat Level : 1.5/10 Attack Power : 2/10 Where the first Minotaur wielded a deadly chain-ball, this Minotaur wields an axe! Strangely, bumping into it or having a nasty encounter with its axe does but single-digit damage. This Minotaur has two attacks - the first being a direct axe slash with medium range, the second throwing its axe across the screen like a boomerang after twirling it over its head. Both are easy to dodge. Take care of this absurdly easy Minotaur by melding the Fire Book and holy water sub-weapon, as well as repeated lashing using your Steel Attachment, on the Minotaur. It will soon go down the same gruesome way its predecessor did. ******************************************************************* When the battle is over, enter the room to the right of the boss room and snatch up the LIFE MAX INCREASE and the WIND BOOK, and exit the boss room to the left. Now, go up the platforms to the room above, and there, watch out for Skeleton Daggers waiting to ambush you upon entry. Defeat them all and go up the hole in the ceiling on the left side of the room, and in the tall hall that follows ascend the staircases, taking care of Skeleton Boomerangs, Ectoplasms and Skeleton Spears as you go. Go all the way up into the room above, and there, smack down all the Skeleton Spears and Daggers which assail you. Then go left into another room, save at the Save Point in the room to the left, and go out into the tower to the left. Follow the upward path, ascending platforms, and enter the doorway at the top. Run through the room that follows (it contains but one candle) and into another room to the right. Destroy the Golden Skeleton and dash into the teleporter room to the right. Use it, and off you go back to Castle A... ---------- -CASTLE A- ---------- Castle Tower ============ When you arrive, exit the teleporter room right. Do you still remember where the ball race room was in Castle B? Refer to the map, it's in the very large room to the bottom-right most portion of the Castle. Find your way there by yourself, and start racing! Clockwork Tower =============== Items to Find: - Invitation Cat Decoration - Heart Max Increase - Life Max Increase - Bolt Book It's much harder, the obstacles being Arahabakis and spike pits, but dash all you can and use the down + jump to hop down thin platforms if needed. If you manage to race ahead, slide under the gap in the wall and jump ledges to snag the INVITATION CAT DECORATION, a HEART MAX INCREASE, a LIFE MAX INCREASE and on the very top ledge, the BOLT BOOK! Now, still in the ball room, go all the way to the area with the spike pits, hop over them all the way to the left, walk against the low wall and slide under a hidden gap in the wall into a narrow, tall room. Drop down the platforms and into the doorway to grab the DRACULA'S FANG relic! Now return to the Castle Tower teleporter, close to where to fought the Pazuzu. Castle Tower ============ Items to Find: - Chandelier Decoration - Purifying Ring Dash left and through the room where you last fought the Pazuzu. Go left through that boss room, and the room that follows, and you will arrive at a tower. Go downwards and follow the passage leading to the doorway, and save at the Save Point. Then go right, into the room with Lizard Poisoners. Kill them off and drop down the hole in the floor on the right. In the following sun-illuminated room, go all the way down through the hole into the next room, crushing the Arahabakis and Peeping Eyes in your way. The next room contains a few Lizard Poisoners, but drop down the hole into another sunlight-filled elevator room. If you want a quick way down, take either the elevator or the left side, otherwise if you're a moneybags person, take the right side and whip all the candles for money. Drop down the hole at the bottom into a room with Lizardmen. Cut them down and drop down the hole in that room, which contains Armored Fleamen and a very irate Gorgon (grab the CHANDELIER DECORATION on the left side of the room). Try to get the Double Mail from the Gorgon for better protection; otherwise, simply enter the doorway on the right side of the room into a room containing Class-2 Axe Armors. Pick your way up and down the platforms to the other side, destroying foes in your way and snagging the PURIFYING RING as you go. Drop down the hole at the other side, into yet another elevator room. Go all the way to the bottom and through the hole into a mist-shrouded room, which now contains Spectre Knights and Master Lizards. Take care of them, and drop down the metal platform in the floor, into a tall hall which is now shrouded by mist and inhabited by Skeleton Hunchbacks and Archers. Go downwards and enter the first doorway to the left, into a room where Class-2 Axe Armors and an Disc Armor lie in wait for you! Run left, dashing them all to pieces as you go and enter the door to the left. Cave of Skeletons ================= Items to Find: - Gramophone Decoration - Heart Max Increase - Life Max Increase - Sypha's Crystal - Hint Card 5 - Sluice Key - Rare Ring Wow, it's changed a lot, hasn't it? Anyway, go downwards, whacking the Skeleton Archers as you go, and go down the hole at the bottom. In the room you enter, descend the platforms (also grab the GRAMOPHONE DECORATION from a pedestal in the room, guarded by Skeleton Soldiers, Skull Towers and Skeleton Maces) and enter the first doorway to the left, into a puzzle room! 1. Push the box on the ground to the left of the platform above (not through the gap), and use it to leap up to the platform. 2. There, push the box right until it hits the ground. 3. Then, push the first box through the gap until it falls off, and push the second box such that it stacks on top of the first box. 4. Push the second box a little bit off the first to allow you to leap onto it, and double jump to reach the HEART MAX INCREASE on a high ledge. Then go down the platforms in the shaft to the left and at the bottom, follow the winding path to the next room. The next room contains another puzzle room. 1. Double jump up to the only ledge you can reach and get to the platform where there are two boxes, one on the platform itself and one on a higher platform. 2. Push the lower box to the left, leaving a little gap between it and the low wall on the left side of the platform, like so: xx | ___xx__ | |_______| | | _ | | | xx | |_|__xx______________| 3. Then push the top box to the left until it falls onto the first box and on top of the gap. Stand on the first box and push the second box to the left off itself. 4. Then push the first box against the low wall. 5. Now, you should be able to stand on the first box and push the second box fully off the platform until it falls to the ground. 6. Push the second box towards the left wall until you can leap up to the higher ledge. There, leap up the platforms and at the top, take the LIFE MAX INCREASE to the right and then enter the doorway to the left. In the next room, you will see several Flesh Skeletons trapped in a vat of liquid...attempt to pass the vats, and the Skeletons will break out. These Flesh Skeletons are much more powerful that the normal Skeletons, but they should be easy to take down. That being done, enter the room to the left. In that room, pick your way up and down the stairways, picking off Blood Skeletons and Skull Towers as you go (the broken goddess statue weeps blood that drips to the ground and forms Blood Skeletons, so be careful!), and enter the doorway on the other side, which leads to a Save Point. Save your game and exit left, into yet another room where you must pick your way to the other side, defeating the Skeleton Crossbones on your way. On the other side is the boss door; enter it and face your doom... ******************************************************************* ----------------------------------------------- | BOSS : Legion Corpse | HP : 4620 | EXP : 3388 | ----------------------------------------------- Threat Level : 5/10 Attack Power : 4.5/10 When I first saw this boss, I said "Eeeaaarrgh." Huge and dripping with bluish humor, the Legion Corpse, dead and rotting but kept active by dark energy, is a lot more monstrous - and disgusting - then the ordinary Legion. At first glance, it seems to be invincible, but keep whipping it until it exposes its vulnerable core, a headless skeleton! When the skeleton turns a white color, you may attack it and cause damage to the Legion Corpse. The main problem is actually getting close enough to damage it, while not getting cursed from a single touch to the Legion Corpse. But once you expose the Legion Corpse's core, it is still very easy; you can whip it continuously, and all the Legion Corpse has as an attack is producing little gobs of gooey flesh which snail towards you. These can be disposed with but one hit! If you have the Wind Book and fist power-up, you can keep casting powerful blue fireballs and whipping it as well! Persevere and the Legion Copsre will explode magnificently, leaving no trace of its existence. ******************************************************************* After the battle, exit the boss room through the left door and claim SYPHA'S CRYSTAL, which allows you to restore your MP at a faster rate! Then exit right, through the boss room, until you find yourself in the stairway room with Skeleton Crossbones. Go all the way to the top of the room, and double jump up to the platform and go up the hole in the ceiling. In that room, enter the doorway to the right, where you will have a first encounter with a Mane Mane. It mimics your attacks and walks in the opposite direction which you walk, and its only weak point is the red bulb dangling from its head. Destroy it, then go right into another room and through that, and you will arrive at a small room with a partition at the top and a locked barrier. Maneuvre around such that the Mane Mane leaps onto the switch, opening the barrier. Pass through to the room beyond, snatching up HINT CARD 5 before going down the hole to snag the RARE RING from a pedestal. Then go back three rooms, and instead of going back down the hole into the Skeleton Crossbones room, enter the cave to the left, and go downwards, killing off the Skeleton Hunchbacks as you go. Go all the way to the bottom and enter the doorway to the left there, into yet another puzzle room...your objective? Where you enter the room, go up the metal platform and walk a left a short distance. Jump up and you will see a high ledge, too high for you to traverse without a box. 1. Go up and left, until you see three boxes, two on a platform and one on a ledge. Push the leftmost one (this is called the "first box" down to the ground. 2. Then go down and push the first box to the right, towards the gap in the floor, but don't let it fall; leave slightly less than half of the box still on the ground. 3. Then go back up, and push the middle box ("second box") to the right until it falls onto the first box. 4. Standing on the first box, push the second box a bit to the right, but leave less than half of the second box on the first box. 5. Now go back up and push the last box to the left until it falls onto the second box. 6. Then, standing on the second box, push the third box to the right and off the second box. Then push the third box to the right, until you can stand on it and go up the previously inaccessible ledge. On the ledge, go up the platforms and follow the path (ignore the hole in the ceiling) to a key guarded by a Bone Snake! Smash it up, then grab the SLUICE KEY. Then backtrack out of this room, out the cave with Skeleton Hunches, down the metal platform in the following room, right through the Skeleton Crossbones room, through the Save Point, right through the Blood Skeletons room, through the room with Flesh Skeleton vats, right through two puzzle rooms, up the platforms close to the entrance straightaway in the following room containing Skeleton Maces, Soldiers and Skull Towers, up through the cave containing Skeleton Archers... Castle's Treasury ================= ...entering the door at the top and going right, through a room full of Class-2 Axe Armor and an Disc Armor, back into the mist-shrouded tower where your room is located below. This time, go through the door on the right into... Moss-grown Cave =============== Items to Find: - Meat - Full Helm - Heart Max Increase - Plated Gauntlet - Leggings - Griffin's Wing - Heart Max Increase x 2 - Life Max Increase - Skull Key In the first room, proceed right, killing off powerful Silphs as you go. Then enter the large room to the right, and proceed upwards and along the path, cutting down Silphs and Small Devils as you go and enter the doorway leading right at the very end. In the long room you enter, fight off the powerful Pixies and Spore Plants you encounter (a hole in the ceiling leads to a room with MEAT) and enter the doorway at the very right (ignore the hole in the floor ***remember this area***, there's no way you can survive the floods without a myriad of potions!). Save at the Save Point and enter the large cave to the right. At the entrance of the cave, the path will split; take the upper path first and destroy the Small Devils in the way to get the FULL HELM and a HEART MAX INCREASE on two platforms. Then go back down and take the lower path, and follow it all the way to a hole in the ground. The new cave you enter has a left and right way. Take the left first, destroying the Victory Armor and entering the hole in the floor beyond, into a cave containing Pixies. Take right and kill off any Pixies you encounter, then enter the doorway on the right, into another cave. Proceed along the path in the cave, taking down Class-2 Axe Armors and the Silph, and going through the doorway at the end, you will find yourself in a very large cave full of bristling Silphs, where you should go downwards and find the doorway nestled in the lower-left corner of the cave. When you get there, enter the doorway into the floodgate control room. With the Sluice Key, you will open the floodgates, and the lion's-mouth floodgate opens and allows the flooded rooms to de-flood, and when it does so, exit the control room back into the Silph cave, and exit that one too, and backtrack along the path in the following cave and all the way back to the cave with Spore Plants and Pixies (look up one paragraph to see exactly where). Drop down the hole in that cave, into the rooms which were previously flooded. In the first room, go left along the dried-up pools and drop down the hole into another cave. In that cave, grab the PLATED GAUNTLET in a corner on the right and go down the hole on the left into a large cave. Drop down the ledges in that cave. snag the LEGGINGS in an alcove and enter the doorway at the bottom. Take out the Skeleton Blazes you see and enter the room through the doorway on the right. Proceed up the stone stairways, taking out Skeleton Blazes as you go, and enter the boss room at the very top to meet the adversary you have been waiting for... ******************************************************************* --------------------------------------- | BOSS : Death | HP : 3920 | EXP : 4227 | --------------------------------------- Threat Level : 8/10 Attack Power : 7/10 Death is, by far, still a powerful adversary even after all the times he's made appearances in Castlevania games. His first form is as the grim reaper himself - cowl, cape, scythe and the works. He has a variety of powerful attacks. The first is the drawing back of his scythe and slashing it forward. This is easily dodged by dashing backwards or sliding under him. After he slashes, use the delay to get in a few attacks. The second is twirling his scythe and tossing it like a boomerang. This is dangerous, but easily slid under, and he's very vulnerable while he waits for his scythe to return. Pound him with powerful attacks and if you have the bible sub-weapon and the Fire Book, meld them to make swirling fireballs that do excellent damage to Death. The third is creating small sickles out of the air, of which he sends flying towards you. Again, these are easily destroyed or dodged. After a long battle, Death will explode and vaporise...but that isn't all... ----------------------------------------------- | BOSS : Death Phantom | HP : 2800 | EXP : 4406 | ----------------------------------------------- Threat Level : 6/10 Attack Power : 5.5/10 Death's second form is a snake-like phantom with a skull and matching twin blades, of which bumping into the sharp pointed tail, blades or the skull will hurt you! You can climb on the ribs and remain unscathed, though. Heal straightaway before this fight if you're all battered up after fighting Death's first form! The only thing the Death Phantom really does is to snake around the room, slashing away with its short-ranged twin blades. Dodging the blades and whipping the skull (the only weak point) is a bit of a job, but the Death Phantom has a much smaller amount of HP. Nevertheless, it is hard to hit with magic, because it's so mobile. The Death Phantom is tricky but not as tough as good old Death. When you win, Death moans in despair, then the Phantom explodes away. ******************************************************************* Heal yourself with the rejuvenation orb after Death is destroyed and head into the room to the left, and grab the fabled GRIFFIN'S WING! Now, you may execute super jumps but pressing down + up + attack. After that, exit the room and the boss room, and go back through two rooms of Skeleton Blazes, and in the once-flooded cave, go back upwards, hopping onto ledges and up the hole at the top, and go back upwards through the hole around the middle of the following room. Then backtrack through another room, back into the cave with Pixies and Spore Plants. Head through the doorway at the right end of the cave, save at the Save Point and enter the doorway on the right into a large cave filled with Pixies and Small Devils. Take the lower path (it splits near the entrance of the cave) and follow it to a hole in the floor, which you should fall into and take the right path. Defeat the Disc Armor which blocks your way and enter the boss room beyond. ******************************************************************* ---------------------------------------- | BOSS : Taurus | HP : 4200 | EXP : 4227 | ---------------------------------------- Threat Level : 6/10 Attack Power : 8/10 At first, a Living Armor pops in with a large, deadly sword...it raises the sword to cut you down, when suddenly, a heavily armored gauntlet smashes it to pieces...you will see a huge, medieval, indestructible armor, the Taurus, lumbering towards you. Indestructible it may be, but its knee is obviously badly damaged. And that is its sole weak point. The Taurus is very powerful, although its attacks consist of nothing but trying to hit you with its arm (you know it will, when it either kneels down or cocks it back). Bumping into it causes big damage to you as well, so be careful! If you have the holy-water sub-weapon, throw it below the knee and do big damage to the Taurus. Also keep whipping it (equipping your whip with the Yellow Stone is pretty effective) and stay out to range of its arm. Heal consistently and keep pounding away at its knee; pretty soon, the Taurus will explode into pieces in a most un-spectacular manner. ******************************************************************* Exit the boss room to the right into a large cave, and grab the LIFE MAX INCREASE and HEART MAX INCREASE. Then super jump up to the left ledge in the room, find your way upwards, and snag another HEART MAX INCREASE. Then go back down and to right of the room, and super jump up the upward passage and make your way to the doorway at the very top of the room. In the new room you enter, you will see a large Hammer Armor, which can hammer Fleamen from the ceiling! Defeat it and enter the room to the left, and take the SKULL KEY. Then backtrack through the Hammer Armor room into the large cave, and go back down and through the doorway at the bottom, and left through the boss room, up through the hole in the ceiling in the following cave, through the cave with Pixies and Small Devils, saving at the following Save Point, heading left through the cave with the Pixies and the Spore Plants, back through a cave with Small Devils and Silphs, left through the long cave full of more Silphs, back into... Castle's Treasury ================= Items to Find: - Heart Max Increase - Wardrobe Decoration - Plate Armor - Greed Necklace - Cup Decoration - Teapot Decoration - Life Max Increase Yup, we're back at the mist-shrouded tower where your room is located below. This time, go all the way up, taking out Skeleton Hunches and Skeleton Archers and up the hole in the ceiling, where you will find Spectre Knights and Master Lizards. Go left, taking out enemies as you do so, and go up the hole at the very left of the room, into a crystal cave, where you should go left, taking out the Lizard Poisoners and Skull Towers, and grabbing the HEART MAX INCREASE at the end. Then find the hole in the ceiling on the right end of the cave, and step up the platforms and up the hole into another room. There, snag the easy WARDROBE DECORATION sitting on the right and then proceed left, and go down the hole (we'll return to the doorway later) to snag the PLATE ARMOR in the sun-lit room. If you're at an odd-number level, you can go down the stairs and follow the path to the merchant's room - otherwise go back up and through the doorway on the left. You'll find yourself in a mist-shrouded hall ***remember this area***. There are two ways to go (besides back into the crystal room), so if you're a money-grabber, take the downward path and through the relatively linear route, guarded by a Ruler Sword Level 3, and seek the GREED NECKLACE in a dead-end room; otherwise head through the doorway to the left, and go left, straight through the room occupied by Spriggans and into the room beyond. That room is full of Spectre Knights, but follow the path anyway, grabbing the CUP DECORATION and TEAPOT DECORATION, and at the end go down the metal platform into a small room with two ways to go, left and right; if you need to save your game, the right doorway leads to a Save Point, otherwise go left for a LIFE MAX INCREASE. Then, backtrack all the way to the mist-shrouded hall mentioned in this paragraph. In that hall, head back right through the crystal cave and go up the hole in this room by stepping onto the crystal platforms into a crystal room. It's filled with Skeleton Blazes and Maces but make your way upwards along the path and up the stairways and grab the HOLY RING at the top. Then return to the previous crystal cave and go down the hole on the right side of the cave, back into the cave with Poison Lizards. Drop down the hole in that cave, back into the room with Spectre Knights and Master Lizards. This time, go all the way to the right side of the room and up the hole there into an elevator tower. Go all the way to the top, jump up the hole there into a room occupied by Class-2 Axe Armors. Cut them down as you go up and down the platforms to the other side, and head through the doorway on the left into the room with a Gorgon and Fleamen. Go up the hole in that room and head left in the following room, opening the skull door with your Skull Key, and making your return to... Approach of Deplore =================== Items to Find: - Life Max Increase - Fancy Clothes - Logos Ring Go left through this room and enter the doorway, then hop up the platforms and grab the LIFE MAX INCREASE in the alcove above. Then go back down, and go through the only doorway heading left into a large area. Staying on the ground level in that area, head left, taking out the Stone Armors and Spirits which confront you as you go and entering the doorway to the left once more. In the area you enter, hop up the platforms (grab the now useless FANCY CLOTHES if you haven't done so) and then on the other side, go down to ground level and go left and up the winding stone path staircases to snag the LOGOS RING on a pedestal. Then exit this area, and the area before that, and in the large area you return to, go upwards to the top of the area and up the passage into another room, where you should head left through the door. Corridor of Marble ================== Items to Find: - Uncurse - Heart Max Increase x 2 - Dracula's Ring - Life Max Increase - Silver Armor - Dracula's Eye Go left and up the hole in the ceiling, into a large hall filled with Snake Heads and Skeletons. Remain on ground level and enter the doorway to the right, and there, defeat the Skeleton Soldiers and go up the stairway, but before going into the doorway at the top of the very long stairway, jump onto the ledge to the left you see while ascending the stairs. Follow the linear path, snagging an UNCURSE potion and a HEART MAX INCREASE on separate ledges, and double jump to grab the DRACULA'S RING relic (remember this location; a Viking Helm can be found here when we teleport to Castle B) and another HEART MAX INCREASE! Then backtrack through the path and enter the doorway at the top of the longest stairway in the room (before entering the doorway, go down the stairway just before it to a small alcove, containing a POTION and an UNCURSE potion, guarded by a Skeleton Soldier). In that following room, head right, cut down the Victory Armor, grab the LIFE MAX INCREASE, and enter the Skull Door, into a room separated by a very tall pillar, grab the SILVER ARMOR (oh, yeah!). Now, we're going to grab the Dracula's Eye relic. ---------------------- Follow these direction to get the Dracula's Eye relic : super-jump to get to the other side, and in the following sun-lit elevator room, go up the hole in the ceiling at the top, and up the hole on the left side of the following room, into a large hall containing Peeping Eyes and Arahabakis. Go up the hole at the top, and through the room filled with Lizard Poisoners. Save in the following Save Point, and go up the tower after that, into the doorway at the top. From there, go alllll the way right through the Pazuzu room, the teleporter room and the blood-covered steps of the Castle Tower until you reach the large chapel in Chapel of a Heretic filled with Skeleton Gargoyles. In a top-right corner of the room is an alcove, and the DRACULA'S EYE relic lies on a high ledge. You require a super jump. ---------------------- When you return, backtrack out the room which once contained the Victory Armor, out the large room with a long stairway, until you reach the ground floor of a large area with Skeletons and Snake Heads. Still staying on the ground floor, go through the doorway to the left, through an empty room and into a room filled with Bats and Fleamen. Proceed left, swatting away the enemies, through a doorway and upwards through the path and the stairs into a room with Spearmen and Bats. Now, we'll need to go back and get some more gear to prepare for Dracula (there's just one more boss in our way). So drop to the bottom of the room and enter the doorway to the left, through the empty room where you first encountered Death, through a room with Skeletons and Skeleton Soldiers, and through the door, back into the... Entrance ======== Gasp! Are we really back in the area where you first started out building up your fledgling vampire hunter abilities? Anyway, go left through the room with Skeletons ***remember this area***, and if you need saving, enter the room to the left, otherwise drop down the hole and down along the path in the following large hall full of Skeletons and Spearmen all the way to the bottom, where you must go down another hole into a white-marble room. Go through it and drop down the hole at the right end, hop down the bookcase and head right into a room filled with Zombies. Go right, take 'em down and go down the metal platform in the floor. You'll find yourself in an abandoned tower, now full of enemies such as Bats and Skeletons. Go downward, using your Crash Stone when you encounter barriers, all the way to the bottom and drop down the hole there, into a puzzle room. Cave of Skeletons ================= Items to Find: - Hi-Mana Prism - Life Max Increase Drop down to the bottom in that room, and exit right, going up the cave and exterminating Skeleton Hunches, entering the doorway at the top. In the room you enter, drop down the metal platform in the floor and fight your way downwards to the right side of the split room containing Skeleton Crossbones, and enter the doorway to a Save Point...wait! Stand in the middle of the room and super-jump...you'll enter a secret room with a HI-MANA PRISM and a LIFE MAX INCREASE! Remember where you may find this room, for when we go to Castle B later on, the same room contains a decoration and the Summon Book. Now, I hope you still remember that particular Skeleton-filled room in the Entrance area of the Castle...backtrack all the way there. Entrance ======== Items to Find: - Platinum Whiphead In that room, go up the hole in the ceiling and head left in the following Spearman-guarded room, through the doorway into another room. Make use of your super jump to get to the other side, and first enter the lower doorway. It contains...the PLATINUM WHIPHEAD! Now, exit the room and take the upper doorway, and use the teleporter. ---------- -CASTLE B- ---------- Entrance ======== Items to Find: - Viking Helm - Heart Max Increase x 2 - Fruitbowl Decoration - Hi-Potion - Hi-Mana Prism - Funny Vase Decoration - Summon Book Exit the teleporter room and enter the lower doorway to find the LURE KEY! Then exit that room, get to the doorway on the other side and exit the room altogether. The room you enter contains some pretty frightening Skeleton Ghosts, whom you can only hit when they become opaque. Go right and drop down the hole in the floor. In the room you enter, you may either go right or left and down the hole. If you still remember where the VIKING HELM is (it is where the Dracula's Ring relic was found in Castle A), go and get it. Otherwise, go left and down the hole, into a large hall filled with Poison Skeletons and Skeleton Ghosts. Go all the way down and into the hole in the floor, go left through the following room, drop down the hole, step down the bookcase and head into the next room. Before proceeding further, go up the first hole you see in the ceiling in this room, take out the Skeleton Ghosts in your way and grab the HEART MAX INCREASE in the room beyond. Then backtrack to the previous room before the Skeleton Ghosts'. Drop down the metal platform in this room and descend the tower grabbing the FRUITBOWL DECORATION, a HI-POTION and a HI-MANA PRISM on your way. Then go downwards through the room with Skeleton Crossbones and through the doorway at the bottom, up the dismal cave with Skeleton Gargoyles, into an empty room where you should drop down the metal platform in the floor, proceeding downwards and to the left in the following room with Skeleton Hunches, and into the save room. Stand in the middle of the room and super-jump into a secret room to grab the FUNNY VASE DECORATION and the SUMMON BOOK, and backtrack all the way into the area before the tower where you found the fruitbowl decoration, a Hi-Potion and Hi-Mana Prism. Then, go right and kill off the Spriggan, as well as entering the door into the room beyond, grabbing a HEART MAX INCREASE and entering the boss door. Corridor of Marble ================== ******************************************************************* ----------------------------------------- | BOSS : Cyclops | HP : 4680 | EXP : 4406 | ----------------------------------------- Threat Level : 6/10 Attack Power : 8.5/10 The Cyclops is one mean beast, and fighting it without sufficient potions and being at level 50 isn't good enough. It has two attacks: rearing up and charging across the ground, or simply smashing its hammer to the ground, causing a lot of damage. But it is slow, and as long as you can dash or dodge its charge and hammer, you should be safe enough to keep lashing the Cyclops. If you have holy water, take it to the Cyclops, and it is excellent for doing it in. When the Cyclops explodes and melts away, you win! ******************************************************************* After the battle, exit right and go up the platforms in the following room into... Approach of Deplore =================== Items to Find: - X-Potion - Potion - Globe Decoration - Smash Boots ...a room filled with treacherous Bone Skewers and Owls. An X POTION lies in an alcove on the left side of the room, so grab it and go through the doorway on the right side of the room, into a large open-air area. Drop down to the ground floor and go all the way to the right and enter the doorway there (the numerous Shimons and Owls make it pretty tough) into another room. There, go up the second passage leading upward to the left, and cut down the Bone Skewers will immediately assail you. Then go up the steps to the right, into a room filled with Bats. Enter the room to the left, and go up the hole in the ceiling into a large area. Staying on the ground floor, proceed left into another room, and still on the ground floor go left all the way once more through a doorway into another room. You will encounter a long passage near the entrance (snag a POTION at the bottom of the passage first), so use your super jump. Snag the GLOBE DECORATION in an alcove at the top, go back to ground level and to the left, where you should go up through a stone path, cutting down Shimons as you go, and grab the SMASH BOOTS at the top. Now that you've found it, go back to the Cyclops boss room. Corridor of Marble ================== Exit the boss room left, and left through the following room back into... Entrance ======== Items to Find: - Gold Pot - Dracula's Rib Kill off the Spriggan, and go alllllllllll the way left through the rooms, cutting down Gargoyles as you go, until you find yourself outside the castle! Keep going left until you see a passage leading up, seemingly towards the sky...equip the Smash Boots, super jump, and you will see it is actually a secret tower! There are some polished bricks you can't break, but super jump and with the Smash Boots, the bricks will shatter and you will fly into the top of the secret tower! Grab the GOLD POT and enter the room at the very top to claim DRACULA'S RIB! Then return inside the castle, and keep going right until you reach the Cyclops boss room. Corridor of Marble ================== Exit the boss room right, and up the passage leading upward in the following room. There, go right into a large area full of Shimons and Owls, and get to the ground floor, go right and enter the doorway at the very bottom-right of the room. In the following room guarded by Big Spirits, take them down and go up the second passageway to the left, and proceed right, up the stairs and into the next room. Cut down the Bats in your way and go left into the next room, and up the hole in the ceiling there. Staying on the ground level of the next room you enter, proceed right, cutting down Owls and Shimons and head through the doorway into the next room, where you should go right, up and then down the platforms to get to the doorway on the right side of the room. There, cut down the Shimons, and enter the skull door, into a grand room with a Bone Dragon and Zombies. Go right, cutting the enemies down and drop down the hole in the floor. In the next room, equip your bracelet and Maxim's Bracelet and go left towards the brown sliding doors in the floor...all of a sudden, an explosion sounds and the doors slide open. Drop inside...and your hunt for Dracula is on! The first room of Drac's lair contains a lift and two passages on the side containing many candles. Use these to stock up on hearts if you need to, then fall down either the left or right side and step on to the metal lift, which brings you into another part of the lair...where Maxim stands over Liddy! Maxim laughs, says some evil stuff, and then the small talk is over...you and Maxim warp into the very heart of Dracula's lair, and the first of the mother-of-all-battles begins! ******************************************************************* ------------------------------------ | BOSS : Maxim | HP : 4800 | EXP : 0 | ------------------------------------ Threat Level : 9/10 Attack Power : 8/10 Maxim is a tough nut. He is strong and has several powerful attacks at his disposal. His primary weapon is his sword, and he can perform 3 attacks with it. His fourth attack is a magical one. His first attack is slashing his sword at you, if you come too close. If you are still in his range he will continue slashing. He won't do this if you're out of range though. His second attack is many very quick slashes with his sword. This is easy to dodge, and short-ranged. His third attack is throwing his sword like a boomerang. Dodging the spinning sword is easy...until he jumps up, catches his sword and dives at your approximate position! This is very hard to avoid, especially in mid-air. His last attack is charging up, then concocting many copies of himself which dive and pounce at you, throwing purple fireballs as they go. The copies are very hard to avoid, especially their fireballs, so keep super jumping and clinging to the ceiling to avoid getting hit too many times. You can also stop him from unleashing the attack at all; while he's still charging (i.e. balls of light are surrounding him) you can unleash a powerful attack, like the Wind Book and fist sub-weapon, which does 200+ damage and stuns him. Maxim is both speedy and powerful, but if you equip the Platinum Whiphead, you'll be able to do 100+ damage to him every hit. If you need to, use your Summon Book to summon a monster which does big damage to Maxim. Persevere and Maxim will be driven back, bleeding and beaten... ******************************************************************* ...but Maxim is loyal to the last! If you haven't equipped both bracelets and have all of Dracula's part relics, Maxim will simply die, the castle will crumble along with your friends in it, and you will get a bad ending. But if you have, he will cackle triumphantly, summon copies of your Dracula's parts relics which come together and form...DRACULA! Then Maxim collapses...and Dracula comes at you! ******************************************************************* -------------------------------------- | BOSS : Dracula | HP : 2250 | EXP : 0 | -------------------------------------- Threat Level : 6/10 Attack Power : 7.5/10 Dracula's first form is very easy. Much like in Super Castlevania IV, he has two attacks. The first is lifting his cape and firing three destructible fireballs, the second (and more occasional) is lifting his cape and firing small meteors vertically. Both of these are dodged easily, but the problem is just hitting him; only his head is vulnerable, so you'd have to jump and whip him. Summoning monsters helps a lot as well. After a short battle, Dracula will explode and vaporise...but that isn't all! ---------------------------------------------- | BOSS : Dracula Phantom | HP : 6666 | EXP : 0 | ---------------------------------------------- Threat Level : 5/10 Attack Power : 9.5/10 Dracula's second form, as a phantom, is frustrating, but easy all the same! It has only two attacks: the first being a very powerful, but duckable, purple beam. Once you see a thin purple beam from its eye, duck, and slide towards the Dracula Phantom and keep hitting it! The second is simply flicking its claw to do big damage as well. If you have projectile magical weapons, take them to the Dracula Phantom! Use your Mana Prisms to restore MP, and Potions if you lose too much health, and eventually... ******************************************************************* When you inflict the final blow, Dracula screams in fury and despair, and explodes into nothingness! You are left with a magnificent ending, when the Castle crumbles and Liddy comes to, and stops a petty quarrel between you and Maxim (who mysteriously revived)...but in the end, it's They Lived Happily Ever After. And congratulations on finishing the game! |--- |--- /\ /\ | | | | |_ | _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | _| / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /\ |================================================| \ 5. EQUIPMENT / \____________________________________________/ Juste can't go around a dingy, dangerous and dark castle armed with only his bare necessities, his whip and his magic! He needs armor to protect him from extra-powerful attacks, and his whip must be able to cope with the increasing power of enemies. You can find the assorted types of equipment from either picking them up easily, or from what the enemies drop when they are defeated. This is mentioned. The equipment, of course, affects you in certain ways, most of them your stats. These "stats" are your defence (DEF), intelligence (INT), luck (LCK) and strength (STR). A few items may also alter other things. |ŻŻŻ\ | > WHIP |___/ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ These are attachments for your whip to give it special powers. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 8.1.1 Red Stone =-=-=-=-=-=-=-= FOUND FROM : Corridor of Marble EFFECTS : Adds Fire power to your whip ----------------------------------------------------------------- 8.1.2 Yellow Stone =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- FOUND FROM : Moss-grown Cave EFFECTS : Adds Thunder power to your whip ----------------------------------------------------------------- 8.1.3 Blue Stone =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- FOUND FROM : Waterway of Aquatic EFFECTS : Adds Ice power to your whip ----------------------------------------------------------------- 8.1.4 Green Stone =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= FOUND FROM : Clockwork Tower EFFECTS : Adds Wind power to your whip ----------------------------------------------------------------- 8.1.5 Circle of Energy =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- FOUND FROM : Approach of Deplore EFFECTS : Lets you spin the whip when you hold down the attack button ----------------------------------------------------------------- 8.1.6 Christopher's Soul =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- FOUND FROM : Cave of Skeletons (Castle B) EFFECTS : When you spin the whip and are at full health, you fire fireballs. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 8.1.7 Steel Whiphead =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- FOUND FROM : Castle Tower EFFECTS : +10 STR ----------------------------------------------------------------- 8.1.8 Platinum Whiphead =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= FOUND FROM : Entrance (Castle B) EFFECTS : +20 STR ================================================================== |ŻŻŻ\ | > HEAD |___/ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ Head gear for added protection. 8.2.1 Bandanna =-=-=-=-=-=-=- FOUND FROM : - ENEMIES / \____________________________________________/ There are numerous different enemies you can find in both versions of Drac's castle. They range from the most wimpy to the ultra-super- ferocious. Here is a list using the Monster Tome Encyclopedia of the enemies in Castlevania, bosses included. I've included the EXP (experience points you get for defeating the enemy), attacks (in point form), what each enemy drops (first is more common, second is rarer), the HP (health points) each enemy has and LVL (level) each enemy is at. The level the enemies are at is significant, as I managed to find out. When your level is equal to or exceeds the enemy's level, they give you less and less experience as your level exceeds their's more and more, up to a difference of 10, when they only give you 1 experience point. For now, I don't have their proper names as I don't do Japanese, but if you are knowledgable in Japanese, feel free to point out my mistakes. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 9.1 Bat | HP : 1 | EXP : 5 | LVL : 1 ==================================== Drops : $1, --- - SHOP GUIDE / \____________________________________________/ There are 8 shops in total that can be found in Drac's castle. They contain items and armor allsorts to help you on your way. Gold is gotten from either candles or the enemies that drop them. Shops are indicated as purple boxes on the map. 5 of them need special requirements in order for the merchant to appear. I've ranked them according to ease of accessibility (i.e. how easy it is to get the merchant in that shop to appear).
