When this guide was first posted, it was the only guide that contained solutions for the puzzle pieces in worlds 5 and 6. The other two guides ended in world 4. v1.5 -- Gamefaqs listed my guide as incomplete (most likely because I didn't have the small world 1 walkthrough), so that's been added. I've also added solutions to retrieve each of the stars. Also, I finally gave it better formatting. ---------------------------- Introduction [INTRO] ---------------------------- This is the first guide I've ever written for a video game. This guide will help get every puzzle piece in worlds 2 through 6. There are certain conventions I use in this guide. For example, the standard enemies I refer to as goombas, for lack of a better term. Also, I've numbered the pieces by the order in which they appear in the icons in the upper-left corner of the screen, not in the order in which they appear in the level. I've included a short description of where each piece is in the level in the beginning of its description. The solutions I've included here definitely may not be best way to get the piece, but these are the solutions that I've found have worked well for me in the times I've played through the game. v1.1 Update -- This guide will now help you retrieve all of the stars in the game, and I've added a quick walkthrough for world 1. ---------------------------- Star Introduction [SINTRO] ---------------------------- What are the stars? While the main point of Braid to retrieve all of the puzzle pieces, there are stars hidden in many of the worlds. In the level select area, when you walk left out of the house, you can see a constellation in the background. As you get stars, the stars of the constellation fills in. Most of the stars require you to view a portion of the level that wasn't previously available. I mean, you need to get off of the screen in some way. Typically this is done by using the game's system in an interesting way. What exactly do the stars do? I might as well tell you that getting all the stars changes the ending in level 1-1. It's not a major change, but it's worth it to see. As far as I can tell, the stars don't effect anything else. It'd be nice if at least there was an achievement for collecting them. There's so many achivements for the puzzle pieces, but none for the stars. *** IMPORTANT NOTE IF YOU WANT TO GET ALL THE STARS *** One of the initial stars requires that you put puzzle pieces (world 3's) together in a way in which they're not intended. If these pieces have been put together already, you're going to have to restart the game in order to get the star. ---------------------------- Guide Start [START] ---------------------------- ============================ World 2 [WORLD2] ============================ --------------------------------- Level 1 - Three Easy Pieces [2-1] --------------------------------- Piece #1 [2-1p1] Easy enough, drop through the break in the platform, then jump over the spikes to the left to reach it Piece #2 [2-1p2] Bounce off the goomba to reach it Piece #3 [2-1p3] Bounc off of both goombas to reach it -------------------------------- Level 2 - The Cloud Bridge [2-2] -------------------------------- Piece #1 [2-2p1] To get this one, you must first complete most of the puzzle. Certain puzzle pieces create a platform. Once the platform is created, you can move the orientation of the puzzle so it's about in the center of the top. Then you can easily jump from the platform with the goomba to the puzzle platform, then to the platform with this piece Piece #2 [2-2p2] Right at the beginning of the level. First pick up the key and use it to unlock the door, then just jump from cloud to cloud to reach it. Piece #3 [2-2p3] After the first cloud bridge, there are clouds moving towards you, jump from each one to make it to the platform on the right Piece #4 [2-2p4] Also with this piece, you need the puzzle constructed first. Move the platform all the way to the top-left of the puzzle (may take a few tries of messing with it) so that the goomba walks off the platform and onto the platform contained in the puzzle. Then open the puzzle again and move the platform so it's somewhere else. The goomba will fall (make sure when he does, it's walking to the right), then follow it and bounce off it to get the last piece Star [2-2S] I hate this star. This is a test of patience, rather than skill. Enter this level from the right (i.e. from the clouds, go to 2-3, then hit B when the screen loads to go through the door). You see the really slow moving cloud above you? You have to wait for that to get all the way to the other side of the level. Really, there's 2 points you have to time. First, you have to wait for the cloud to get above the locked door near the left-most side of the level (make sure you don't unlock it). When it's above the door, jump onto the cloud. Then you have to wait until the cloud is in range of the left-most side of the level. When it is, jump off the cloud and onto the cliff to the left. Then jump over to the star and get it. It may be preferable to use a wired controller for the 360. If you use a wireless controller, you have to move the character every so often so the controller doesn't turn off and pause the game. It seems like it's above the door at about 1:30-1:50 into it. (an hour and a half to an hour and fifty minutes). --------------------- Level 3 - HUNT! [2-3] --------------------- Piece #1 [2-3p1] You have to kill these goombas in order. The only goomba that matters is the one on the lowest set of platforms to the right. I typically kill the bottom one, then the one on the left lower platform, then the one above that, then I use the one on the lower right platform to bounce over to the platform on the right with the next goomba. From there, kill that goomba and the one at the top and you'll get the piece ----------------------------- Level 4 - Leap of Faith [2-4] ----------------------------- Piece #1 [2-4p1] This is the third piece that appears in the level. It's down the chasm in the center of the level. You have to maneuver yourself as you fall down to reach it. It's really easy to get to just by rewinding and retrying until you make it. Piece #2 [2-4p2] This piece is off to the side of the ladder when climbing up on the other side of the chasm. Be careful because as you're climbing a goomba will fall down and hit you. There are little parts in the ground to the side that you can jump into to avoid it. In one of the little parts, there's the second puzzle piece Piece #3 [2-4p3] This is the piece at the beginning of the level. Go to the right and climb up the ladder to the switch. Flip the switch so the goomba can make it on the platform, and then flip the switch again so the goomba is moving towards you. If you time it right, the goomba will make it onto the ground below you. You can then follow the goomba and use it to bounce to the puzzle piece. Piece #4 [2-4p4] This is the second piece that shows up in the level. It's right on the other side of the huge chasm. You have to time your jump perfectly so that when you jump, you hit the goomba being shot out of the cannon and bounce up to the platform with the last piece. ============================== World 3 [WORLD3] ============================== ====================== Star (Overworld) [3-S] ====================== This one sucks because it can require a restart of the game. In the star introduction in this guide, I mentioned puzzle 3 should not be put together. To do this, you must have most or all of world 2's puzzle. Really you just have to have the platform in the puzzle put together that's used to achieve pieces #1 and #4 of 2-2. Also, you must have the two pieces from world 3 that are put together improperly: piece #1 of 3-3 [3-3p1] and piece #2 of 3-6 [3-6p2]. After having these pieces, go to the overworld (the level selection that shows each of the worlds). Above the puzzle for world 3, you'll notice a triangle. This triangle is the upper half of the star. (DO NOT PUT THEM TOGETHER) Interact with world 3's puzzle and place [3-3p1] and [3-6p2] at the top-left of the puzzle. Rotate them so the bottom half of a star is formed and place it in the puzzle below the top half I mentioned. It's not that easy because you have to do it pretty precisely. Once you have it, the star will appear in the overworld. Now the trick is to get to it, and this is where you need the puzzle pieces from world 2. Remember how it has the platform in the puzzle? Move the platform low so you can jump on it in the overworld, then jump on it. Now, jump again and when you're at the peak of your jump, hit B to interact with the puzzle again. Move the platform upwards, but make sure it's still below you, so you'll land on it. Repeat this process until you're near the top of the puzzle. Then jump to the black divider between the rooms, then jump to the star. ------------------------------------ Level 2 - There and Back Again [3-2] ------------------------------------ Piece #1 [3-2p1] Climb up each platform avoiding or killing the goombas and grab the key at the end. Rewind time so the closing door opens again and grab the piece --------------------- Level 3 - Phase [3-3] --------------------- Piece #1 [3-3p1] Rewind time to stagger the clouds so you can jump to the puzzle piece Piece #2 [3-3p2] Again, rewind time to stagger the clouds so you can jump to the puzzle piece ------------------------------------------- Level 4 - The Ground Beneath Her Feet [3-4] ------------------------------------------- Piece #1 [3-4p1] Flip the switch to move the platform to the other side, then rewind time so the goomba is alive. Let the goomba grab the key, then take the key from the goomba and get the puzzle piece. Piece #2 [3-4p2] Flip the switch to unblock the ladder. Climb the ladder and move towards the beginning of the platform that moved. Go back down the ladder and flip the switch, then rewind time so you're back on top of the platform and jump to the puzzle piece. Then rewind time to get back onto the previous platform, jump down from its left side, and hit the switch again to continue. ------------------------------ Level 5 - Tight Channels [3-5] ------------------------------ Piece #1 [3-5p1] This piece is the one right at the end of the level. The problem is you can't get up the ladder because of how frequently the cannon is firing the cannonballs. A little bit to the left in the level, there's a cannon shooting at the ground. Keep tapping the rewind time button until it's synchronized so the cannon shooting the ground shoots out every other cannonball. Then climb up and get the puzzle piece, just make sure you don't get hit and rewind because you'll lose the synchronization between the cannons. Piece #2 [3-5p2] This is the first piece that appears in the level. It can be somewhat tricky. To get the piece, start off on the platform below it. Then walk to the left and watch the goombas at the top of the screen. Rewind time to make sure one makes it through. If you time it well, you can rewind time t when you were standing on the platform and have the goomba there, so you can use it to bounce to the puzzle piece. ---------------------------- Level 6 - Irreversible [3-6] ---------------------------- Piece #1 [3-6p1] This piece is the first one you encounter after climbing down the ladder in t he middle of the level. If you notice, the first door is not affected by time, but the key is. Use the key on the first door, then rewind time to get the key back, and use it in the second door. Pick up the puzzle piece. Piece #2 [3-6p2] This is the first piece that appears in the level. The trick to getting it is to not get hit at all when you enter the level. If you do, you'll have to rewind and then the platform above you will not be able to slide out to the left. When the platform slides out, climb to the top and use the extended platform to reach the puzzle piece. Piece #3 [3-6p3] This is the second piece you encounter after climbing down the ladder in the middle of the level. DO NOT grab the key you see. Instead, walk past it and fall down the hole to the left. Grab the key that isn't effected by time, and then rewind to bring yourself back up. Use that key in the first door, then grab the key to the left of you and use it in the center door, rewind time to get it back, then use it in the third door, and pick up the puzzle piece. -------------------- Level 8 - A Tingling [3-8] -------------------- Piece #1 [3-8p1] Go to the first ladder and climb up. Go all the way to the left and climb do wn to the switch, flip it. Climb back up, but then climb to the top level. Walk all the way to the left and onto the lowest platform. Stay for a second or two, then walk all the way back to the switch. As soon as you flip it, rewind to when you were on the platform above the entrance. Quickly jump onto the moving platform then onto the ladder, climb up, and get the puzzle piece. Piece #2 [3-8p2] Initially, ignore the door sliding into place to block off the puzzle piece. continue to the right and cross the spikes, then climb down and go into the area to the left. Climb on the netting and move to the left and past the cannon. Pull the switch. A platform will rise that when you stand on it, you're not effected by time. Get onto it (rewind time till you're over it then drop down onto it), then rewind time to the beginning of the level, where the door is still open. Then run back to the puzzle piece and grab it ========================== World 4 [WORLD4] ========================== ----------------------- Level 2 - Jumpman [4-2] ----------------------- Piece #1 [4-2p1] This is the piece at the start of the level, at the top of the platforms with the goombas coming down. You can notice if you try to climb them normally, you can't climb the ladder to get to the top platform because a goomba is right above you. Instead, jump to the platform to the left and you'll notice a goomba directly to the left of you, use it to bounce to the upper platform. Then climb the ladder to the highest platform and grab the piece. Because this piece is effected by time, you can not go further to the left in the screen than the puzzle piece was. It'll reset the piece to where it was. Therefore, if you want to get piece #2 in the same run through (without exiting and re-entering the level), get this one after getting the key for piece #2, otherwise this one will be reset anyway. Piece #2 [4-2p2] This the second piece encountered in the level, inbetween two locked doors. The key is to the right, near piece #3. Get the key by carefully timing your jumps and movements and climb the platforms. After getting the key, do not go through the door on the left of the puzzle piece. When you move left, time is reversed, so if you put the key in the right door, you'll be travelling to the left and time will immediately close the door again after it's been unlocked. The key will be stuck in the door because it's not effected by time. Instead, go around to the first part of the level (the donkey kong/jumpman area), and climb up there to reach the door on the left. Piece #3 [4-2p3] Just time your jumps and your left and right movements to jump over the cannonballs and jump onto the cannon and get this puzzle piece. --------------------------------- Level 3 - Just out of Reach [4-3] --------------------------------- Piece #1 [4-3p1] Climb up the ladder and get to the platform with the switch. Flip the switch, then walk to the right and climb up the ladder to the upper platform. Then move left and jump off to hit the goomba and bounce back up. Then bounce off of the goomba you're near to get over the block blocking your way to the puzzle piece. Piece #2 [4-3p2] From where piece #1 was, jump to the right and bounce off the goomba and onto the higher platform. When doing so, make sure you're moving to the left when hitting the goomba. This can be tricky and may take a few tries at first, but obviously that doesn't matter with a rewind button hehe. If you hit it when moving to the left, the goomba will still be alive and make it to the lower platform. Once the goomba is on the lower platform, move to the right enough so the goomba grabs the key for you. Then move back so you can get the key from it. Then repeat the steps to get to where piece #1 was and use the goomba to bounce onto the higher platform again. Climb up the ladder, unlock the door, and get the puzzle piece. --------------------- Level 4 - HUNT! [4-4] --------------------- Piece #1 [4-4p1] Same screen from before, but now order plays a larger part in getting the puzzle piece. The problem is, after killing a goomba, if you walk further to the left of where it was killed, it'll be revived, since time is effected by your position in the screen. By looking at the positions of each goomba when you enter the screen, you can tell the basic order of how you have to kill them. First, climb all the way to the top and kill the goomba as far left as possible. Then climb down and jump to the platform to the left, using the goomba below you to bounce to it. If you walk to the left and use the ladder, the goomba at the top will be revived. After killing the second goomba (the one directly below the first), drop off that platform to the one below, and jump to the platform to the left. Kill that goomba, then kill the goomba on the lowest level, and then get onto the lower-right platform near the exit. Use the goomba to bounce up to the platform with the last goomba. This can be a little tricky. I use a double-bounce and land on it going left the first time, then land on it going right the second time to bounce off of it and kill it. Once on the higher platform, kill the last goomba. After killing all of them, you can revive some and the door will stay closed since it's not effected by time. Climb up and get the piece. ----------------------------------- Level 5 - Movement by Degrees [4-5] ----------------------------------- Piece #1 [4-5p1] Jump over the plants and time your movements to safely guide the goomba to the left side of the screen and into the nook with the key. To get the goomba past the last plant, you have to climb the ladder and jump to the block on the left. Once the plant goes in the pipe, jump to the much larger block to the right and then keep running to the right until you hear the "bing!" noise. Then get the key from the goomba. Then jump over and climb up to the locked door above, unlock it, and get the piece. Piece #2 [4-5p2] This is another case where you guide the goomba past plants safely. The previous time, the goomba was effected by time and the plants weren't. This time, it's the opposite. Start directly below the piece, then jump to the right and give yourself some buffer time. Then rewind time to lower the plants. It seemed a little harder to do this just by walking left and right because of how long it would take to climb the ladder and get back to the large block. Once you have the goomba safely across the plants, wait for it to drop to the platform below and use it to bounce up to the puzzle piece. Star [4-5S] This star is in the same corner as piece #2. Start by following the steps to get to piece #2 above. Stand where the piece was for a second, then walk to the right and drop down to the right corner. Rewind time to guide a goomba through and pull yourself back up to where piece #2 was. Then, use the goomba to bounce up to the cliff above you. This will open up the area above you. The star is all the way to the right, above the cannon. You have to get across the plants now. First, you'll need a goomba to help you bounce onto the platform with the plants, so give yourself a second of buffer time, then run all the way to the right at the bottom again. Rewind time to safely guide a goomba across and get you back at the top of the level. Then use the goomba to bounce to the platform to the right. The second plant is a bit harder to get past. You need a goomba, but it seems like wherever you move, you can't get the goomba across safely. The trick is to jump as far as you can past that middle plant. You'll definitely die, but pause time when you're there because the plant will be down for the goomba. Once the goomba is past the plant, quickly rewind to where the center plant is down so it can get by. Then use the goomba to bounce over the middle plant. It's the same for the plant all the way to the right. Wait for a goomba and use it to bounce above you and get to the star. ----------------------------------- Level 6 - Movement, Amplified [4-6] ----------------------------------- Piece #1 [4-6p1] This is another case where you guide goomba past plants safely. You can notice the left most two are significantly faster than the other two. Walking normally, you can't get the goomba past them. Instead, climb up the lower set of clouds and walk left or right on them. Use them to move the goomba past the lower-left plants and then get to the key. After getting the key, get the key from the goomba. Again, remember not to use the door on the right of the piece. If you do, the door will remain locked and you'll lose the key and have to start over. Use the door on the left to get the piece. Piece #2 [4-6p2] You just have to have really good timing with this one. Climb the right ladder at the beginning of thelevel to the top level of clouds. Move to the right and get on the cannon. Run to the right and jump at the very edge of the cannon. You should jump onto this giant cloud that streaks by the screen. Continue to the right and jump on the platforms to get to the puzzle piece. -------------------------------- Level 7 - Fickle Companion [4-7] -------------------------------- Piece #1 [4-7p1] Grab the key when you first enter and bring it to the right and unlock the door above the goomba. Then kill the goomba and walk to the left below the door so it locks again and the key comes out. The goomba will respawn, pick up the key, and bring it in to you. Take the key, unlock the door, and take the puzzle piece. Just exit the world after you have it. Piece #2 [4-7p2] This is the first piece that appears in the level. Grab the key when you enter and carry it up the second ladder you come to, then move to the right end of the platform and flip the switch. Then drop down and kill the goomba walking back and forth. Then move left or right enough so the platform will catch the goombaand walk to the left so the moving platform connects to the platform above you and the goomba is walking on it. Take the key from the goomba when it's to the left of the ladder going up to the puzzle piece. Make sure when you jump on the goomba, you don't go to the left or the key will reset below you. Then climb the ladder, unlock the door, and take the piece. This one can be a huge pain in the ass and it may take a few tries. Star [4-7S] I hate this star. Mostly because I hate this level. It didn't take me figure out how to open up the extended part of the level, but figuring out how to get to the star was a huge pain. To open up the top part of the level, you have to double bounce off a goomba when it comes out of the cannon. Basically, climb up the first ladder and walk to the right until you're at the cannon. Jump down and kill the goomba below you, then rewind so you're back near the cannon. Wait until a goomba pops out and jump on it. When you're in the air, pause time until another one pops out below you, then release time so you land on it. You'll automatically land on the platform above you and the upper part of the level will be revealed. So there's two locked doors above you, a switch, and a movable door. You can't handle this area alone. You need a goomba. Here's where it gets hard. You've already unlocked the top and you've been there, so you can always rewind to get yourself back up there. Drop down and go grab the key, wherever it is. You want to bring it to the top with the cannon and then jump with it to the platform to the right of the cannon. Drop down below and kill the goomba, then rewind so you're back on that platform. Here's the trick: Jump off the platform to the left and the key will be in the air above you. Pause time when you're right below the cannon. Wait for a goomba to come out and grab the key, then rewind time so your head hits the goomba above you and propels it into the air. MAKE SURE to continue rewinding (otherwise you'd die obviously) and then hit the goomba again. I'd typically rewind until I was back on the previously platform, then jump and hit the goomba a second or third time. You can easily do it with two bumps if you hit the goomba when it's at its peak. Just be sure to get the goomba up there with the key. If it makes it up there without the key, you have to rewind until you're up there, kill it, then drop back down, get the key, and start over. Once you've gotten the goomba to the upper part of the level with the key, rewind until you're up there with it. Once you are, DO NOT kill the goomba. You need the goomba to carry the key to the left side of that door, after you flip the switch. But first, you need to kind of give the key a buffer that it's been on that platform. To do this, get on the ladder and wait until the goomba brings you the key. The second you get the key, move up the ladder so you don't hurt the goomba and it doesn't hurt you. When you have the key, drop off the ladder and walk to the right. This will set in time that the key has been on that platform. When you're done, walk to the left and get on the ladder again. Let the goomba bring the key to you again, but this time climb up to the first locked door. Use the key to unlock the door. You can flip the switch, but it won't help out just yet. Instead, walk back through the door and walk to the left until the key disappears. Now, if you set the key in time properly on the lower platform, it'll appear there. Otherwise, it'll fully reset back to the start of the level. If it resets back to the start, you can try rewinding, and then setting the key in time on the platform, and opening the door again etc. If everything's worked properly, the key will reset on the platform below you. Let the goomba take the key, then rewind time. You'll be pulled back through the door and the door will re-open. Now, flip the switch and walk enough to the right so the movable wall opens enough so the goomba can get through. Once the goomba is on the other side of the movable wall, get the key from him. Make sure not to go to the left after getting the key because it'll reset it, but get the key, go up the ladder, and then use the key in the door. Continue to the right and get the star. HUGE pain, right? ============================ World 5 [WORLD5] ============================ ----------------------- Level 1 - The Pit [5-1] ----------------------- Piece #1 [5-1p1] Jump down the pit and grab the piece, then rewind so you're out of it. Your shadow will grab the piece. -------------------------- Level 2 - So Distant [5-2] -------------------------- Piece #1 [5-2p1] Climb up the ladder and walk to the door, then walk over to the switch and flip it, then rewind so you're back in front of the door. Your shadow will flip the switch and you have a second to run through the door. Then climb up and get the puzzle piece. Piece #2 [5-2p2] Stand on the ground near the goomba for a second or two, then bounce off the goomba to get to the switch. Then rewind until you're back on the ground. Then use the goomba to bounce over to the door, while your shadow uses it to bounce over to the switch and flip it. Then climb up and get the piece ------------------------ Level 3 - untitled [5-3] ------------------------ Piece #1 [5-3p1] Walk all the way to the right to the edge of the spike pit. Then climb up the netting and head to the right, drop down and grab the key, then jump over the spikes as far as you can. You'll die. Then rewind until you're back at the other side of the pit. Your shadow will then climb around, grab the key, and jump over, and if you jumped far enough, you'll have the key. Then just bring the key up and unlock the door and take the puzzle piece. Piece #2 [5-3p2] Climb the netting, then drop down to where the key is. Go to the right and there will be a really annoying rabbit that spawns directly under the ladder. I'm sure my way probably isn't the right way, I just timed it right one of the first times I tried so I ran over to the bunny and jumped and I killed it and bounced up the ladder, then climbed up and got it. The second time I tried this, it took a few tries, but I got it. -------------------------------- Level 4 - Crossing the Gap [5-4] -------------------------------- Piece #1 [5-4p1] Continue to the right to climb up the ladder to the top. Ignore the rug and continue to the left where the cannon and puzzle piece is. Start at the top, then drop down and kill the goomba, then rewind so you're back up top. Your shadow will drop and kill the goomba. When another one spawns, use it to jump up to the puzzle piece. Piece #2 [5-4p2] When you're at the top near the cannon, flip the switch so it's closer to the cannon. Then drop down and kill the goomba, and rewind so you're back up top. Your shadow will kill the goomba and another one will spawn. It'll continue over the moving platform and fall to the platform below you. It'll continue all the way to the right. Follow it. Start on the top of the left ladder for a few seconds, then jump down. When the goomba is falling off onto the ground, jump up from underneath it and hit it so you die, then rewind until you're on top of the ladder again. Wait until your shadow hits the goomba upwards, then jump on it to bounce over to the puzzle piece. Piece #3 [5-4p3] This is the one in the center of the level near that rug looking thing. Get to the top near the cannon and flip the switch so it's to the left. Drop down and kill the goomba then rewind to when you were up top. Then flip the switch. A new goomba will spawn and cross the entire gap. Then use the goomba to bounce onto the rug thing, then climb up and get the puzzle piece. Star [5-4S] Getting this is similar to getting piece #2 (letting your shadow bounce the goomba upwards). There's something interesting about the cannon here. If a goomba gets onto one of the top-most platforms (where piece #1 or piece #2 was), the cannon will actually generate a second goomba. Saying that, that's the trick here. You have to get a goomba to where piece #1 was, then you have to use the 2nd generated goomba to bounce up there, then bounce off the goomba you got up there to the star. All this being said, it's not so easy getting the goomba up to that platform. You have to make the goomba bounce repeatedly until it reaches the right platform, but you have to make it bounce off of it and turn the other way. Then you have to bounce it the other way and into the platform where piece #1 was. To begin, make sure the moving platform at the top is to the left. Start where the switch is for the moving platform. Jump down and kill the goomba, then rewind and let your shadow kill it. When the new goomba comes out, drop down to the platform below. Wait for the goomba to come out and drop down, when it's in midair, jump up and make it bounce upwards, then rewind until you're next to the switch again, and let your shadow make the goomba bounce. Once it bounces, hit it into the air again, then rewind and let your shadow do it. I think you get the idea here, but it is a little tricky. Mess with it a bit to get the feel for it. The nice thing is that the goomba is effected by time, so you can rewind to retry as much as you want, but make sure to rewind to a point you can continue from. ------------------------------------- Level 5 - Window of Opportunity [5-5] ------------------------------------- Piece #1 [5-5p1] Climb up the ladder and go to the right. Grab the key from the goomba. Move to the upper locked door and wait there for a second. Then, drop down and use the key on the lower door, then immediately rewind until you're in front of the upper door again. Use the key to open the upper door and jump onto the lower one, then to the higher platform before your shadow unlocks the bottom door. Then jump around to the switch and flip it. Then backtrack to the first ladder in the level and climb down to the puzzle piece. Piece #2 [5-5p2] Continue all the way to the top-right of the level and stand in front of the upper switch. Don't press it yet, just run down to the lower switch and stand directly below it. Wait a second, then press B. Then rewind time so you're back at the upper switch. Your shadow will run down and once he steps on the lower movable platform, flip the switch, then jump onto the moving platform a t the top. When your shadow flips the lower switch, you can jump from the moving platform to the puzzle piece. -------------------- Level 6 - Lair [5-6] -------------------- Piece #1 [5-6p1] First you have to kill the boss. Same as last time, but this time you need to hit it with the shadow of the chandeliers. So drop it, then immediately rewind until it's back up, and the shadow will drop. Once he's dead, take the key over to the left-most side of where the boss area begins. Wait a second, then climb up the netting to the locked door, and then flip the switch. Rewind time so you're back at the left most part of the boss area. You can start this further to the right, but there's the chance a goomba will kill your shadow.After you rewind, run to the right and use the key in the locked door, then continue to the door blocking the puzzle piece. Your shadow should flip the switch and let you get the puzzle piece. If you get the piece, then the door closes behind you, just rewind, your shadow will jump in and get it for you. --------------------------------- Level 7 - Fragile Companion [5-7] --------------------------------- Piece #1 [5-7p1] This one's realllly easy. Just grab the key, then jump toward the door and r ewind time before you hit it. Your shadow should then jump towards the door and hit it and unlock it. You should still have the key, then you can unlock the second door and grab the puzzle piece. =========================== World 6 [WORLD6] =========================== ------------------------------------ Level 2 - There and Back Again [6-2] ------------------------------------ Piece #1 [6-2p1] Another level that looks familiar. This time, you can't rewind to bring the door back up. Jump over to right under the door and press the button to drop your ring. Then climb up, get the key, and bring it back down before the door shuts. ---------------------- Level 3 - Phase? [6-3] ---------------------- Piece #1 [6-3p1] This is actually the piece in the center of the level. It's the same situation as piece #2, but the cannon only puts out one cloud at a time. See the flower on the platform above? Climb up there and put the ring on the flower. Then jump on the cloud when it's right in the center, then jump and you should time it so a new cloud is created as soon as you're there, then jump to the puzzle piece. Piece #2 [6-3p2] This is actually the one at the beginning of the level. Jump on the cloud, then use the ring until it gets close enough to the next cloud for you to jump on. Rinse, repeat until you're close enough to jump on the cannon and then grab the piece. ----------------------- Level 4 - Cascade [6-4] ----------------------- Piece #1 [6-4p1] This is the piece directly above the entrance when you enter the level. In order to get it, you have to flip the switch behind the locked door to move the platform above it and drop down. Start by going to the right and climbing the ladder to the top. Go to the right until you see the key. Getting the key can be kind of tricky. The easiest solution I found is to first put the ring down where the goombas are dropping from the cannon. Bounce on a goomba to reach the platform with the cannon. From there, wait until the goomba shoots out and bounces on the platform below. When it's at the peak of the bounce, hit it to bounce to the platform on the right and grab the key. Pick up your ring and now it's time to slow the cannon so you can enter and exit the hall with the switch. Go down to where the cannon keeps killing the goombas. Time your jump so you jump over to the cannon. You need to jump over a cannonball and over the gap to time it right. Put your ring on or near the cannon. When a goomba safely makes it across the platform, pick up your ring and follow it. When it drops to the ground, using it bounce up the cannon that's firing down the hall with the locked door. Place your ring down on the cannon. Now you can run down the hall, unlock the door, and flip the switch. After doing so, run back and get on theladder and climb to the top. Jump past the cannon with the goombas and drop down the left gap to get the puzzle piece. Piece #2 [6-4p2] This one is the one at the top near the goombas being shot out of the cannon into the spikes. Place your ring near the cannon and try to time your jump so you jump on a goomba, then another gets shot out of the cannon right as you fall onto the end of it, so you bounce up a second time and make it onto the platform. Then just run over and grab the puzzle piece. When placing the ring, don't place it so the red ring is actually touching the cannon. If you do, the rate in which it shoots goombas will be too slow. Piece #3 [6-4p3] This piece is the easiest. It's above the area where the cannon keeps killing the goombas. You can just jump on a goomba to grab it, or if that seems hard, jump over to the cannon and drop your ring to slow it down first. Then bounce up and grab the piece. ---------------------------------- Level 5 - Impassable Foliage [6-5] ---------------------------------- Piece #1 [6-5p1] As soon as you walk into the level, place your ring down below the vertical moving platform above you. Wait until the horizontal platform is out enough so the vertical platform won't block it anymore, then pick up your ring and continue to the right. Climb up the ladder and then place your ring directly underneath the plant. Then continue to the right and climb up the ladder to the top. Carefully time your movement to pass the plant, then continue to the left and use the horizontal moving platform to reach the puzzle piece. Piece #2 [6-5p2] Climb up the ladders in the level, then continue to the right on the platform under the puzzle piece. You'll notice a similar situation. Goombas are exiting and getting killed by plants. You have to use your ring and rewind time to help 2 goombas get through without dying. Typically I would put the ring between the first two plants, then use rewind to control the rest. If I found a point where all 3 would be down, I'd keep hitting rewind and letting go to keep them down until 2 goombas passed. It's tricky at first, but keep trying until 2 get through. Once they're through, run to the platform under the puzzle piece and use both goombas to bounce up to it. Be careful and make sure to time your jumps right because you can't rewind with these goombas. Star [6-5S] This one isn't so bad, it's by piece #2. You want to start by getting to where piece #2 is by following the steps above. Once you're at piece #2, synchronize the plants to the right of you. You need 2 more goombas. Make sure they make it safely across, then you have to bounce off of both of them to get onto the ledge above you, to open up the rest of the level. Get the first goomba across and bounce off of it, then pause time when you're in the air until a second goomba is below you. Unpause and bounce up to the ledge and to the left. Follow this and jump onto the platform you come to. You'll notice it wraps around and has a ledge below it. Place your ring on the top platform, about in the center of the lower ledge it's connected to. Drop onto the cannon to the left and you have to bounce off of two goomba consecutively to make it up to the lower platform. You want to hit the first goomba when it's about half way out of the cannon, then the second goomba when it's first shot out of the cannon. Once on the ledge, run to the right to nab the star. ------------------------------- Level 6 - Elevator Action [6-6] ------------------------------- Piece #1 [6-6p1] Go all the way to the right to the end of the level. Climb up the ladder, then jump onto the platform with the switch. Drop your ring directly below the cannon, then flip the switch. Jump onto the platform with the ladder and move all the way to the right-most ledge of the platform. Rewind time until the platform is back at the top. Time your jump so you can jump up to the platform, then jump over the next cannonball. If you time it right, you can jump after the cannonball and to the puzzle piece. Piece #2 [6-6p2] Go all the way to the right to the end of the level. Climb up the ladder and then jump to and flip the switch. Jump over to the platform with the ladder and put your ring on it. Jump back and flip the switch again. Wait until the ladder goes back to the top and flip the switch again. The platform below you will make it to the other side, near this puzzle piece. Jump to the platform with the ladder and get your ring back. Climb up the ladder and then flip the switch at the top. You'll notice a ladder fall down to the ground. Climb down the ladder and drop down the ground. Climb the ladder that fell and get off onto the little platform to the right of it. Stand on the moving platform and then rewind time so the ladder is back up top. Place your ring down on the platform you're standing on and when the ladder falls down, jump onto it while it's falling and quickly climb up and get to the puzzle piece. This can be really tricky and can take a lot of tries the first time. Piece #3 [6-6p3] This is actually the first piece that appears in the level. This is one behind the locked door and the key is in an area after the maze of shooting cannons. Start by going through the maze of cannons, then flip the switch at the top to lower the platform. Drop down and grab the key, then flip the switch to raise the platform and jump on it to go up. Once at the top, drop your ring at the right-most edge of the platform and flip the switch to lower the platform. While the ring is lowering, carefully make your way back through the maze of cannons.Once at the bottom, when passing the platform, jump up and press the ring button to retrieve your ring, then climb up the ladder, unlock the door, and get the puzzle piece. Star [6-6S] This is a pretty big 2 step process. It incorporates two sections from previous pieces. First, piece #3, you'll be using the maze of cannons and elevator. Secondly, you'll be going back to the ladder you used for piece #2. Then you'll have to make it over a tricky gap. Step 1 Go through the maze of cannons and get to the key using the steps described for piece #3. When you see the bunny, don't kill it. You'll need to bounce off of it much later. You need to lure the bunny onto the elevator and use the switch to get it to the top. Once you're on the top, you want to drop the ring and basically get the bunny to run back and forth and jump a lot. You want to get this buffer time of it jumping around because when you use it to bounce, the jump is kind of hard. The bunny needs to be in the perfect position to make the jump, so having a LOT of time where the bunny jumps around and your ring is out is a good thing. It's seemed like the perfect spot for the bunny is to the left, near the switch. Having it begin its jump around there and continue to the right. Another good spot to try is to have the bunny at the peak of its jump just to the right of the switch. But anyway, once you have a lot of time buffered up, drop the ring on the elevator, and flip the switch so it lowers and you can exit the maze. Make sure to keep the bunny up top though. Also remember once you're at ground level, to move to the left and jump up and grab your ring again. Step 2 You'll need to do most of the steps described for piece #2. Flip the switch to lower the platform with the ladder, then put your ring on it, flip the switch so it goes back up, then flip the switch again so the lower platform makes it out to the left. Then, take the ring back. Climb up the ladder and flip the switch so the ladder to the left drops. Then, run down to it and climb up it so you're at the moving platform with the glowing stuff on it so you're not effected by time. Rewind until the ladder is above you again. This is where timing is crucial. You need to make sure you're glowing green and jump on the ladder while you are, then rewind time until the ladder is back up at the top. When it is, you have to climb it and jump off it to the left to get over that left wall. Step 3 I split the gap into a separate step because of bouncing off that bunny. When you're at the gap, step into the glowing stuff so you're not effected by time. Then rewind until the bunny is below you jumping back and forth with your ring, like you setup in step 1. When rewinding, if you rewind the bunny to before a jump, it'll never make that jump again because you're not there to make it upset. So basically, the more you rewind, the more you erase the jumps its made. This is a tough jump, but try to time it so the bunny is at the peak of its jump directly in the center of the gap and you hit it at that exact moment. Bounce off of it to reach the platform to the left and get the star. --------------------------------- Level 7 - In Another Castle [6-7] --------------------------------- Piece #1 [6-7p1] Start by climbing up the ladder to the left with the key. Drop your ring as far right as possible for like 4-5 seconds. Then pick up the ring and climb down the ladder. Run to the right and put your ring at the bottom of the next ladder, then time it correctly to climb the ladder and run to the left. Stand on the area that makes you unaffected by time and rewind until the ring is back on the platform with the key.Then flip the switch and run to the right and jump off the side rather than climbing down. Quickly run past the ladder and run to where the key is going to fall. Jump up and grab the key and your ring out of the air. Go back to the right ladder and place your ring down at the bottom and time climbing back up. Use the key to unlock the door and grab the puzzle piece. ============================= World 1 [WORLD1] ============================= In world 1, you'll notice that time moves backwards in all the levels, even the levels start with the last first. ------------------------ Level 4 - untitled [1-4] ------------------------ Stand over the part where the goombas are flying up from out of the screen. When one comes up, you'll knock it and it'll walk on the ground. Use it to bounce up to the exit. ------------------------ Level 3 - untitled [1-3] ------------------------ Again, stand over the part where the goombas are flying up from out of the screen. Hit one or two of them so they're walking on the ground. Then, climb the ladder all the way to the top. Wait for the goomba, and it'll bounce to the platform below you, the up to the platform you're on. While the goomba is bouncing upwards to the platform you're on, bounce off it to reach the door. ------------------------ Level 2 - untitled [1-2] ------------------------ Again, stand over the part where the goombas are flying up from out of the screen. Hit two of them so they're walking on the ground. Start bouncing on the first one and continually bounce on it until you're on the top-most platform you climbed to in the 1-3. Wait for the second one to bounce up to the top-most platform and use it to bounce over to the exit. --------------------- Level 1 - Braid [1-1] --------------------- Start by climbing down to the ground. Wait a little and a guy will climb down and jump a few times and knock down a platform that you can jump on. He'll also start this burning wall coming towards you from the left. Basically, you're going to be running through the bottom portion of the screen while the princess is at the top. You have to flip switches that will effect your path, while she has to flip switches that will effect yours. Start by going to the right and there will be a movable wall blocking your path. The princess will flip a switch and you can pass. Quickly climb the ladders and continue. To save time, drop down rather than climbing and when you do climb, only climb as much as you have to. There will be another movable wall blocking your path. The princess will have to flip a switch for it, and with the time it takes for the wall to lower, you'll get over it JUST in time. Next will be a pit of flaming spikes, which the princess has to flip another switch for. She'll do it at like the very last second. So wait as long as you can, then just jump and the platform will catch you. Continue to the right and climb down the ladder, making sure not to get hit by the cannonballs going into the cannon. Quickly climb up to the switch and flip it to let the princess pass above you, then she'll flip a switch to turn off the cannon. Continue to the right as quickly as possible. Climb the netting and move to the right quickly. Try to save as much time as you can because the next part is the only tricky part. In this part, you'll notice a goomba comes out from the ground and bounces to the right. The trick is to bounce off of it and continue bouncing on it until you've bounced up to the switch above it. That'll open a door to a cannon, so goombas can go to the right and get sucked up into it. Wait for an opening below you, and quickly run to the right. You have to be quick so the goomba will bounce up into the cannon and not come back towards you, blocking the opening. Then continue to the right and the princess will flip a switch to move a platform for you. Continue further and jump over the plants. A chandelier will be on the ground and the princess will climb around it and it'll repair itself. Continue to the right and climb the netting and jump on the shiny platform above you. Then just rewind. Rewind, rewind, and rewind more. If you stop rewinding, it'll just pause. You have to rewind until you're back at the beginning. Then go through the door to get to the epilogue. Star [1-1S] To get this star, you must have all the other stars described in this guide first. After you have the other stars, the two switches you're required to hit are no longer effected by time. So to get this star, follow the directions above to flip the two switches. The first switch is the one above the cannon that the princess disables. The second switch is the tricky one where you have to keep bouncing off the goomba that comes out of the ground. Once both switches have been flipped, rewind back to before you encounter the first switch. Then just continue with the level as fast as possible, not worrying about the switches. You should be able to get a bit further ahead of the wall of fire. When you get up to the broken chandelier on the floor, jump on it right as it raises from the ground, it'll bring you up to the princess and there will be an explosion. When you regain control, climb to the top and you'll be at the top of the level where the princess has been. Move to the right and you'll see the princess sleeping in her bed. Above her will be the last star. After getting it, you can still complete the level by travelling all the way to the left across the top part of the level and entering the door. =========================== Epilogue [EPIL] =========================== Rather than providing a step by step guide through this section, I'll just explain how it works (or how I've noticed that it works, please let me know if I'm wrong). The green books don't show anything when they're open. The red books have text, but also there are certain "hot spots" where you hear a woman singing. In some screens, it seems like you have to have the red book open in order to use the hot spot. The hot spots change the text and add more to the story.
