This thread is for people to vote on and debate about -CIVILIAN LEGAL- weapons to procure during a zombie apocalypse. One must remember that due to many gun laws in my area, Fully Automatic and High-Caliber weapons are illegal for use as personal and home defense weapons and are restricted to Military personnel and certain SWAT units.

As such, assume you live in my town when the zombies start to pop up. Considering ammunition expenditure and chance of replenishing your supply to full capacity, as well as the pros and cons of each weapon type, choose ONE firearm you would trust to ride out the entire Zombie Apocalypse with.

Personally, I would choose Akimbo Sig Sauer P226 pistols. Ample magazine size, semi-automatic, common 9mm ammunition, reliable as anything out there, low recoil, high accuracy, and all it takes is one accurate headshot to fell a headmuncher.

Also, the distinction I make between the "rifle" and "hunting Rifle" in the list is that the "Rifle" is a series of semi-auto or bolt action rifles with no scope, while the hunting rifle class includes scoped rifles and hunting shotguns (As hunting shotguns are commonly classed as Rifles anyway). Similarly, Marksman Rifles would have a scope of a slightly higher magnification with better shot placement and recoil control.

    Happy hunting!

I vote compound bow. I am a good show with one. I have experience in making arrows so that would hep in keeping my ammo replenished in an emergency.

But the #1 reason I took it is silence. I wouldn't draw attention to myself with the noise.

Would noise really be an issue with zombies though? They attack anything that moves that's not one of them, and can smell even the faintest hint of non-coagulated blood even if you barely nick yourself on an exposed nail, and in some respects are hypersensitive to changes in light like from a flashlight.

Personally I also think it'd be useless if you get surrounded should you step on loose gravel or some broken glass or whatever, because even the fastest Archers can't put out one hundred arrows in the span of 20 seconds that it would take for the zombies to close in and suck your brain out of your cranial cavity like a frapuccino...

I'm going to be amused by this thread.

99% of the people who will vote in this poll, have no experience with a variety of firearms. Nor any realistic method of determining desirable attributes.

Silence is important. You can sneak your way past zombies.

Unfortunately, a crossbow is a poor choice. One with any degree of power is large and cumbersome and noisy to carry even if it's quiet to fire. Also, past a certain point, power and accuracy are inversely related with bow-weapons.

But most importantly, just where are you going to find ammunition?

That's the thing with bows and crossbows though, even if you can't salvage any shots you put into an enemy, you can almost literally make your own should you be able to find any straight and durable wooden sticks of a decent size (Hell, some places like Home Depot or Lowes have TONS of small sticks of the perfect size to repurpose into arrows should you have a knife able to whittle a sharp point out of one end and have an appropriate fletching for the opposite end).

I've only ever really shot a .207 rifle, a .30-06 rifle, and a .38 Revolver, but for home defense my Uncle (A real guru when it comes to guns, wrist-watches, and antiques) said the Sig Sauer line of 9mm Pistols is easily worth the extra money spent.

I've seen testimonials where one said that after 1,000 rounds (With proper care between each firing session) there had never been a single malfunction, no misfires, jams, or other undesirable effects. You'd be crazy if you thought an M4 carbine could match that record...

I voted for a smaller, semi-auto riffle for a few reasons. The riffle I had in mind would be a 22.

One, they are fairly common, so ammunition wouldn't be a huge factor. Two, they are also fairly lightweight. And lastly, I haven't had a whole lot of experience with a lot of weapons; but I have shot one of these on many occasions.

The only drawback about them is that they are not very powerful. the only shots that would be effective would have to be around 20 feet in distance. And even then it's not a guaranteed kill.

A .22LR is more than capable of entering a skull from well beyond 20 feet.

Probably within 75-100 meters will penetrate the skull. Make it 50 meters for your engagement range, since you're firing at a small target (a human head).

You can bring down a deer with a well placed shot at maybe 150 at the furthest, although some people claim up to 300 meters. And a well placed kill shot on a deer requires more penetrative power than it takes to enter the skull of a human.

All you need to do is enter the skull with a modicum of force, physics will do the rest.
In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'
