I'm forty-something hours in, and I've compiled a list of things that the battle system needs/could use.
Switching The Party Mid-Battle I would beat so many enemies that much faster if I could have an offensive party, and be able to switch someone for Vanille to heal when I'm in the red. Plus, Sazh could Haste up everyone and buffer the party and then be a reserve.
More Paradigm Slots If I can't have the above, can I please have this? It's incredibly restricting to strategies if I only have six combinations of classes.
Switching Characters Mid-Battle This right here, would remove 100 Annoyance. I like battling as Lightning, but Vanille has the strongest summon. I can only summon the Eidolon of the playable character. I want to summon Vanille's. This puts me in a tough position, because it's more difficult to win a boss battle as a Medic, but I need the security of "In the last stretch I can save myself with a summon if I need to".
Everyone can Attack I don't think I need to explain this one.
No more Levelling Caps I loathe whoever came up with this. I like to level the Hell out of my party until they're fairly invincible, and the need to gain expansions hindered this.
Control over non-playable characters' targets It takes a lot longer to stagger an opponent when Fang is constantly trying to attack the opponent's comrade.
Switch to another character when KO'd This was the dumbest thing in the game. Everyone did not die just because the Party Leader was knocked out, so LET ME PLAY AS SOMEONE ELSE!
