Nothing from ME1 severely changes ME2, at least during my playthrough.
*Saving the Rachni queen resulted in nothing, nor does killing her *Council alive/dead // Anderson is chosen/not chosen also makes no difference; the Council doesn't care about the reapers and you're still left to do the fighting alone; If you saved the council and play as paragon, you get Spectre status back, but that doesn't do anything either... *The smaller things (i.e. punch that guy, save the guy's wife, etc.) also makes no significant difference ('cept small talk or messages)
I thought this game would have like 20 different story paths due to all these differences that they said would be an impact... but they really aren't...

First of - yes, pretty much anything you did in Mass Effect impacts Mass Effect 2. If you saved Rachni Queen, you will meet her messenger, which will tell you that the rachni will help you against the reapers in future (ME 3?). If you saved the colony on Feros (and asari commando near Thorian), you will meet the asari and she will give you a quest related to this. Basically, what your ME 1 choices affect is which NPCs you meet along the way. And some of them will have quests. Mostly its old buddies, so you DON'T wanna play ME 1 as renegade and kill everyone. You can even meet Fist in ME 2.
Oh, and if you'd have 20 different choices, as you suggest, the game would come out on 20 different DVDs instead of 2. And 20 years after.
