well, all i can say is that i am running Windows 7 x64 and i sometimes even have the game running in windowed mode while playing around with the toolset. it could be a memory problem, but not sure (i am also running the steam version)
I had this PC in the shop not too long ago and had a full diagnostic run and they couldn't find anything wrong with any of my hardware.
Something about EAs recent games, don't like running well on my PC eg. Mass Effect, Red Alert3/Uprising and now Dragon Age.
I have a nice PC for playing games. Here are my specs in brief.
CPU: Intel Q6600 Quad Core
RAM: 4 GB Kingston DDR2 PC2-5300
VIDEO: 2 XFX 9800 GT (SLI)
PSU: 1000 Watt Top Name, Top Performance (can't recall the name)
ive had similar problems myself, its not the rig....its not the game, its not the trainer....its too many background apps running...
partially the problem is "ultimate", but only if you haven't told it NOT to run a bunch of its extras (i had a similar problem with vista ultimate x86...and x64)
basically the solution is to not run alot of the extra services that the ultimate version comes with.....cut down as many running apps as possible also (i use "The Ultimate Troubleshooter" to help with tracking these things down)
a "not responding" error is usually caused by the app
a) taking to much memory
b) not getting enough cpu time
c) hard drive thrashing (this is very common...turn OFF autodefrag)
d) bloatware (usually in the form of virus/malware scanners...i use Vipre by sunbelt software)
now for my specs
CPU: Intel i7 920 OC'd to 3.6 GHz
MotherBoard: Asus Rampage 2 Extreme
Ram: 3GB triple channel corsair brand - default speeds for the cpu speed
HD1: 2 300gb sata in raid 0 for the OS and Games (two partitions)
HD2: 2 400gb sata in raid 0 for "downloads"
cpu cooling: coolermaster v10
gpu: 1 XFX Black Edition Nvidia Geforce 285 (pre overclocked)
sound: sound blaster x-fi titanium "fatality"
case: coolermaster HAF 932
other: 1 sata dvd player, 1 sata dvd writer, 1 extrnal eSata 1.5 TB "backup" drive
OS:
1) Windows Vista Ultimate x86 (my main OS, its soo tweaked it really isnt vista anymore...and its been running stable for 9 months so far)
2) Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (i only use this for testing)
3) Windows XP Professional (i use this for legacy apps that dont play well with vista)
4) Arconis Bootsector (its a copy of the bootable DVD, used for creating and restoring backups WITHOUT the OS running...no need for Volume Shadow Copy)
i think u guys should try a software called...Game Booster..run it before u run a game..and it switches to a game mode where all non-essential apps r closed by this software and when u finished gaming u can switch to normal mode. see if this helps..it works for me.
Game Booster sounds cool, do you have a link and I imagine it's free too.
I still don't know why Microsoft if they want to push gaming on Windows why they don't have something like this built-in to automatically disable services and things running in the background that could cause problems when you run games. Seems like a no-brainer to me. I remember in one game, a tablet PC service running the background, was the cause of the game crashing. Why is that service not disabled when you run the game is beyond me.
search for it on google...u'll find it real easy.
