I laugh at people when I wear my Winthrop Football shirt. The back of it reads, "Still Undefeated". And everyone that doesn't know about Winthrop not having a football team ask me if we're really so good that we never lose.
I have a VCU shirt that says the same thing.
VCU has a hockey team (a club sport, but 99.999999% of university hockey teams are...there are only like 20 NCAA-recognized hockey programs), but not a football team?

Yeah, I have no idea why they don't either. They could ask the city or whoever to use the old University of Richmond field, it's actually closer to VCU than UofR anyway... <_<
That being said, because there's no football team, the entire city gets behind the basketball team. Which is good, because we're usually pretty apathetic about everything. Espescially since losing the Richmond Braves
Winthrop owns a football stadium that they allow the large high schools to use here. But they say the reason they won't get a football team is because for every male sport they must have two additional female sports, it's bull.
That's title nine for you.
Out of curiosity, what's the male/female ratio at Winthrop? 1/2?
