Are you using the "Save Chest" button rather than the "Close Chest"?

Save Chest should save any changes and Close Chest will close without saving. Seems like you are doing things right. I will have to have a think about what could be going wrong. Check the files that have been made called BeforeSacred2.txt and AfterSacred2.txt that are made in the same folder as the editor. See if they are the same after changes has been made.

I've noticed changes in those files, but when I reopen the chest I edited, it's like there were no changes. This might be me but I've got no luck with computers.

This might sound silly but is that the only chest you have. I have edited the wrong chest by accident before and then not seen the changes ingame.
I think the chest file for the game should be in C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Ascaron Entertainment\Sacred 2\chest.sacred2chest this is the one that needs opening in the editor.

What do I do with the backup? After the editing, I have a backup of the chest. When I click Save Chest it says can't find specified folder. I know where the files are, I've used the save game editor, so finding the files is easy.
That's the only chest I edit.

Correction: Yes, that is the only one I have.

Hm I'm stuck the only other thing I can think of would be to copy the chest file to the same folder as the editor, edit it and then copy it back to the original folder. The backup can be erased on checking the edited chest ingame. If the file is corrupted for some reason you could delete it and remove the backup from the name of the backup. This can then be opened in the game.
