The item index number is a variable that I implemented. The number that is at byte 270 is the total number of items and then there is a number 1 at the start of each item (or at least what I have said is the start of each item)

I also have a bit of an ask to people in the know please.
I know there are grey, white, yellow, blue?, gold, green and orange items. Are there any other colours for items?
Adding another item inside the chest is definately possible . I think it can just be slotted in-between 2 items and the total number of items at byte 270 incremented by 1. Then just interogate the new length of the chest, take away a fixed value (252 or 256) and bung the 16 bit value in at 136 . I just have to figure out how to do it so as the item doesn't sit on-top of another as this may cause unwanted behaviour

@ ZarrenSanders I have just checked my 0.38 version and it seems to read the chest coming up with my version of Sacred 2 2.43 by the way. I'm still waiting for 1 of the local shops to get the expansion in stock. What version are you using and could you post a chest file somewhere for me to have a look at please. I'll see what I can do to sort it out.
By the way nice balance.txt editing. I had a few of the modifications you use but there were some new ones to me there. Cheers
If for any reason these files don't work,let me know.I'd also like to know if you have a level 200 chr and these level 252 items can be used by your chr or not without adjusting there levels by the cloner.
The reason is that I may have made a change in my balance file that I'm not totally aware of becouse I been fighting level 240 enemies and they are quit a challange.

I will check them when they are downloaded and see what I can find.
I have a few level 200 chars and I used to use them for farming items from the bosses at the end of game. They were about level 216 as I remember (I don't think I had changed the difficulty in the balance.txt). I could get at least 1 legendary item for every kill of the bosses sometimes even 3
I did edit them in the Character Editor so they had 16 skills all maxed out to 255 + bonuses (up to about 400) and very high attributes as well.
Download is nearly finished will check it in a while
EDIT: Seems to work for me but that's using a new version of the editor. Too lazy to download the 0.3.8 version and can't remember where I left it. Probably behind the sofa
You have a s***load of good items there ZarrenSanders, must have taken some work to get that lot.
I will make the new version available to download soon. It has more good stuff and a new interface. Importing and exporting of items is now possible but I have murdered a couple of chests although I'm pretty sure that's now sorted The new version is still in C++ but I have ported it to C# as well although I have a few teething problems with that.

By the way, has any of you seen this thread? Link. sven_wilde there says about some megadev save organiser or something like that. The bonus is that this organiser has many Sacred 2 chest files attached with it. As far as I'm concerned, those chests contain most (if not all) set items for every class (maybe apart from Dragon Mage) and many uniques. What's more those items are also different level. It may be worthwhile to look there. But beware, if you download those chests, you will rid yourself of countless hours of killing bosses just for the one last missing item.
Re-written the program so it has a completely different interface
Added the ability to import and export items (this does affect the money that you can sell them for but that is the only difference that I can see to the developers of the game for making it tough).
Added the abilty to change the difficulty level of the item.
Added the ability to change the colour of the item i.e. can now change a white item into a legendary (don't know what they are called)
Removed the warning at the start of the program.
Added ability to close the chest without saving. Karach0s
Changed most of the error windows so they match the colour and style of the main window (hopefully you won't be seeing these anyway)
