Alright, I just bought a new copy of KotOR 2, and I'm trying to get it to run on Vista 32. I know it will, because I had it installed on my PC before, but I don't remember what combination of solutions I used. I've tried the Mss32.dll fix, AND running it in XP sp 2 compatability mode. Even with these, every time I start it, the launcher comes up just fine, but, when I click on "GAME", I get an error message that says "run time error" and "abnormal program termination". I am getting really frustrated, as the KotOR games are really good. I'd be very grateful if somebody could find it in their heart to help me!

here is a link to the dll for kotor2 to prevent it from crashing on vista.
    www.filefront.com/9360713/kotor_2_vista_fix.7z
download it then back up the original so that you can update the game if needed,
then unzip the 7z file you can unzip it with either
7-zip which is free here a link downloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z465.exe
or WinZip 12.1which also free either one will do the job. download it here
download.winzip.com/winzip121.exe then put the dll into the main folder
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\SWKotOR2 load the game on windowxp compatabilty by right clicking on
the swkotor2.exe and also press the run as administrator button close the property window then click on swkotor2.exe or the swkotor2 shortcut on the desktop run and enjoy.
Ps.this is my first post XD

Thanks for the response, but, it still doesn't work. I get the same error message. Plus now, I have to restart my computer to get the DVD-ROM drive to eject! I guess I'm just gonna have to wait and hope for Windows 7.

ok let see how we can fix this first try to uninstall kotor2 then insert the first disk (DO NOT USE THE LAUNCHER TO INSTALL close it out) then go to D: drive or which ever drive the kotor2 cd is in then find the setup.exe after finding it right click on it then go to property's after that press on XP servicepack2 emulation and administrator after that hit apply and exit property's then use the setup.exe put instead of installing it to C:\Program Files\LucasArts\SWKotOR2 or what drive letter for your hardrive is. install it here C:\Users\Public\Games\LucasArts\SWKotOR2 older game try to write directly to were ever it install when running and window vista will not allow it to write to the program file directory instead window vista make a memory emulation for the program which is ok for the more recent program but not kotor2. now after installing it to the directory above,
back up the swkotor2.dll put is some where safe then put the dll you downloaded from filefront.com and put it in the main kotor folder after that right click on kotor2 exe and put the setting window xp service pack 2 and also adminstrator. apply the setting to the exe exit property and play enjoy

I never played KOTOR2 on Vista, but I had a similar problem on Win7. Not fresh out of the box, though. Only after I tweaked the movies too much. When you uninstall, make sure you delete the folder to get everything gone. Them reinstall, get the latest patch, and try again. Check your video driver, too. My guess is it's crashing changing the resolution to play the low rez movies. Have you installed any codec packs? Get rid of them all if you have.
