The problem is not so big because with a simple disable of the option before shooting at them they WILL go down.
Lastly, I add to the request for a timer stop and definitely a jetpack option, that thing is loads of fun.

Also seconding a request for the tank fix and the "no police heat" option.
PS: One small bug I noticed too, it's not show-stopping, but just letting you know: it would appear that if you enable destruction mode and invulnerable vehicle together, if you are in an APC, it will eventually grind to a halt and you will be unable to move in it until you disable option 6. I'm not sure about other vehicles, I will test further and report back.

But its more fun when you don't use it. otherwise the game will be much shorter than it is already...lol..
regarding the EDF option, the option simply reduces the control value of the current area to zero. the tutorial vids in your journal even say that you still have to complete several missions to completely 'unlock' that level to move on to the next level. so setting this to zero does not implicitly 'unlock' this area and allow you to move to the next. You still have to complete (3, i think) some missions in that area to unlock it. Now if this option isn't useful or i am incorrect in what i am saying, then let me know and we will remove the option.
i have played the game in long 20-30 minute sessions with ZERO crashes using the trainer. I doubt the trainer is causing any crashes/lockups.
