It was a fighting type deck based around hitmonchan. His attacks were cheap, so one could really skimp on energy and other pokemon and load it up to the brim with trainer cards, which you could play more than one of per turn, meaning the deck hit very fast and very hard.
IIRC, electabuzz too. They were both bulky enough to take some hits and could attack quickly.
I played a rain dance deck.
The most ironic thing about Pokemon cards was no one knew how to play it the real way. I remember one of my friends had some CD that taught you how to play.
I just collected rare ones.
My first cards were some kind of ground or rock deck, I can't even remember it properly.

That...is why you buy the pokemon trading card game for GBC.

I didn't know how to actually play the game and just collected the cards. I never got a single holofoil.

Me neither, i collected them for no apparent reason. Looking back with hind site it was one of the most pointless things i ever did.
