I am trying to install the newest patch but it loads the game with or without the disk in the drive and never completes the install.I put the file Fallout3.exe.cat back to normal but it didn't help.Anyone else having this problem? Thanks

That maybe because you must be using the modified executable (AKA game fix) that might be getting traced by the Patch.
Please restore the original files and then try patching.

I got it to install by just renaming the game exe so the game would not run. Then I put the game exe back to normal. The only file I had changed was the fallout.exe.cat which you have to rename to get the trainer to work.Loaded the game and used the V1.7 trainer an everything runs ok.Thanks Though for the info.
*sigh* If you renamed the exe file before patching, how is it supposed to patch the game exe then?
Start the game, go to Settings -> Graphics and check the game version in the bottom-left corner.
I checked It and it reads V1.7.0.3.
When it was installing the patch showed a dll file as being changed not the exe file.

Easiet way is to rename the file you have to rename to get the trainer to work BACK to the name it should be then let the patch update via live then do the trainer workround again - Always works fine for me

The first thing I tried was changing fallout.exe.cat back from what I had changed to:Fallout.exe.bat to get the trainer to run.The patch still would not complete. It kept loading the game and stalling no matter how many times I tried.I never had a fix since I always played the game with the DVD in the drive.Changing the actual game exe file to keep the game from launching worked for me.Game patched fine and runs with no problems. This patch must not need to see the actual game exe to install properly. It shows as V1.7.0.3 in the graphics screen and the new V1.7 trainer works great!
