sorry for the late reply but the trainer doesn't need to be placed within the steam folder
The SMP setting has to be changed to Trymedia/Bigpond for the Steam version of the game.
the instructions should explain it enough

It should be noted that Trainer #2 still works, even on Win10.
SMP version Trymedia/Bigpond is what to select on the Trainer If you encounter crashes while Alt Tabbing, setting Water Quality to low resolves it as stated in the instructions, and I just a few moments ago tested it and verified it still solves that problem.

Hi there. I'm running the trainer with the steam version, done all that was said and it's working. EXCEPT, that sometimes when I enter combat I lose everything from 50 to ALL CREW! WTF!? And it's happened at least 10 times with both mine and my opponents crew, but mostly MINE.

Exactly what options are you using? this is the first ive heard of someone having this problem
