Producer Glen Schofield revealed in an interview that Isaac is not dead, meaning that Isaac either survived the encounter, or it was a hallucination.

Isaac didn't die, he only hallucinated that Nicole attacked him. Just like he hallucinated Nicole helping him, google Dead Space wiki.

This game is an surviving horror therefore happy endings aren't implemented to it's logic. If you notice near the ending, in the video Nicole uses a lethal syringe and dies. She dies in a shuttle and it's possible it's the same one Issac escaped with. Just my point of view but who knows.

also, survival horror is a genre, it has no effect on how an ending is written.

Most of the hero characters in Dead Space "lore" are killed off at the end of the their story arc. Only exception is probably the ones who left the mining vessel just before Isaac's team arrived. Their fate, I believe, is unknown.

Like I mentioned, it's my point of view and I don't know what really happened [(but who knows)].

Issac does not die in that shuttlecraft, he is suffering from halluciantion since encountered with necromorphs and the marker.

He returns as again protagonist in dead space 2, but this time he is suffering from dementia and also amnesia (hinted from the trailer).

I heard Dead Space franchise going to be a trilogy.
