press Tab and you open the tactical map, then you just click on the unit you want to select and then click where you want it to go, the enemy to fight, etc etc,
Battlestation midway and pacific is essentially a RTS game which allows you to control one of the units under your command..
much like Men of War's Direct control feature.. (which company of heroes stole imo, men of war was released first)

Soldiers Heroes of world war II was made by the same company as Men of War :P
but yeah, it was the first that had Direct control.. sorry ^^
And as far as released, the "Official release date" is the 12th at least it is in europe. probably different for the US, or its a leaked version ^^
