You're not using the correct version of trainer for game or something is interfering with it.

Update your Steam version of the game to the latest update (1.3), and then get the 1.03 trainer... That issue has been resolved.
Remember though: Only push F1 once you have started playing the game, not at the menu, otherwise you will have a buggy gaming session...
