The story passed down was that a great great grandfather died after falling down the stairs at a poorhouse. But the city in question didn't have a poorhouse when the old man died, so I did some research and found him on the 1920 census and then tracked him from there using city directories and found that he was likely in a regular boarding house. The patron was disappointed.
