It be today, March 28th, 2009, at 8:30PM at your personal local time. When it's 8:30PM at your house, shut off all your electricity for a whole hour. Be a part of it, let us know what you're doing!

I personally will be reading a nice book by candlelight, perhaps I'll even play with a couple of toy cars I have lying about with my brother.

I'll do it if I remember. I'll probably get some homework done or go on my laptop >_>

Well I had a good time doing it. I read some magazines and looked over my old action figures in my closet. It was pretty relaxing if you ask me.

No. The electricity is still being produced--the coal still being burned.

What is a greater evil: burning coal to people can use electricity or burning coal and having no one use the electricity?

Plus, I can't be bothered to relight the pilot lights in the furnace and water heater which will be extinguished when the automatic shutoff valve on the gas pipes is triggered by the loss of electricity.
In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'

I'm not gonna lie and say I'll do it, not because I can't live without electricity, in my country the power cut off for hours sometimes in winter.
The reason why I'm not gonna do it because no one around will do it, not everyone in the world will do it, so it's kinda pointless in my point of view.

I'll probably go play basketball or something.

I don't think this is a "wasting electricity" thing so much as a "show your support" kind of thing.

You're missing the point, it's about increasing awareness. Awareness about the fact that we don't need electricity running all the time - it's not a necessity, but a luxury. And if we can spare just a single hour of our lives a year to make do without them, then we will have reminded ourselves just how lucky we are.

To not do it is entirely your choice, but it does suggest a bit of arrogance/ignorance on your part.

I just did it, I'm surprised how quickly the hour went by. I started painting this collection of auras, really simple, but I ended up losing myself in the painting, and the time just flew by. It's quite something, we don't need electronics to entertain us all the time.
