No. The electricity is still being produced--the coal still being burned.
What is a greater evil: burning coal to people can use electricity or burning coal and having no one use the electricity?
Plus, I can't be bothered to relight the pilot lights in the furnace and water heater which will be extinguished when the automatic shutoff valve on the gas pipes is triggered by the loss of electricity.
You're missing the point, it's about increasing awareness. Awareness about the fact that we don't need electricity running all the time - it's not a necessity, but a luxury. And if we can spare just a single hour of our lives a year to make do without them, then we will have reminded ourselves just how lucky we are.
To not do it is entirely your choice, but it does suggest a bit of arrogance/ignorance on your part.
I just did it, I'm surprised how quickly the hour went by. I started painting this collection of auras, really simple, but I ended up losing myself in the painting, and the time just flew by. It's quite something, we don't need electronics to entertain us all the time.
