xp is not advanced enough to cause real problems and that is the real problem isnt it. :P

xp doesnt get updated anymore its only a matter of time before the games will be unplayable on xp.

then your forced to trash it.

i had vista since january 2007, so far i have only experienced minor problems.

actually, i have been having the same problem, but i find that the longer the session gets, the longer the turns take, clicking on people, etc. I have that same problem, particularly when i click on a port filled with ships: it freezes (all from 30-60 seconds) when i click on it, when i highlight all the ships, it does it again, and when i move them it does it again.

From what I've seen every time I play, the movement calculations seem to take up so much power and resources of the game. I've played all of the Total War games and NEVER have I had this issue before until Empire. Is it really necessary to show me 2-3 different shades of green and cause the computer and game to show me green movement areas even when I don't have any moves left? Before Empire, the movement area was just one color green and it was so much faster calculating, if it even needed to. What did they do to change the usual point, click, and the shaded movement area quickly showed itself, having already been calculated? Also, I really wish I could turn off all those damned flags and even stop the flags waving during the damn "Other Factions" movement phase at the end of my turn. All this extra added graphics just lag the game.

I know this is not ideal for alot of people but why not uninstall the game and download it through steam itself. I havn't tried it myself but wouldn't it allow you to? After all, you did buy the game so you should be allowed access to the game straight from them.

Though it is a 15GB download so I doubt you will try, lol.

Well, I found a workaround for this hanging. Using NumPad2 seems to put a stop to the hanging. No idea why. (Recap: I wasn't using the SUPER movement option.)
