for the retail version, i was having the same issues, the only method that helped me out was to turn shadows to low, i have everything else on ultra, but this definetly helped me out. I still play the cracked version though, which sucks since i paid for the retail copy.

I did that. As well as having everything else set to low. Doesn't make a difference.

A friend gave me a copy which turned out to be cracked. I compared it with a legal copy I bought, and if anything the cracked version is worse.
