Have a shop bought copy here but steam won't let me install from the disk i have to download it from them at a snails pace (4 hours+ due to server congestion) Does anyone know a command line switch for the steam installer to force installation from disk? Or any way of forcing install from disk?
    TIA

That happened to me the first time.
I just uninstalled, then started the install again and it started from the DVD.

All the executables on the DVD launch steam, the shortcut to run the game points to the steam app on the HDD in the steam folder with the switch /runapp. As soon as i insert the disk it installs steam.

Have tried several times now, steam is always the called for app.

I managed to fully extract all the game files from the .sid files so i'm going to try creating THQ folders in program files and forcing steam to see the files

    Here's how it's done.

    Go buy the original game.
Find yourself an application called simpack.exe, this is used to extract the game files from the .sim archives on the dvd. Hint: Google it

    Place simpack on your desktop.
Install steam, enter product key and allow the program to start downloading.
    Close steam after 1 min.
Browse to C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\ or wherever steam is installed to on your PC and copy the path.
Create a batch file with the following commands:

    @echo off
    set SRC="*:\Dawn of War II_disk1.sim"
    set DST="C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2"
    SimPack x %SRC% %DST% -g15621 -kB89419B9155240919AE572CF47912398
    SimPack x %SRC% %DST% -g15622 -kE539E40F992EFD2E3031DDD153BA16A0
    set SRC=
    set DST=
    pause

Where * is the drive letter of your DVD reader

And save the batch file to your desktop. Run the batch file and wait for 10 mins, close the program when prompted.
Run steam, set it to downloading- in approx 5 mins the game will be ready to play

I Found up a Solutions for this Trouble:

MAKE SURE YOUR WH40K DoW II DVD IN YOUR DRIVE!!!

Exit from Steam completely (make sure it is not running in the lower right System Tray).
Right click your Steam desktop shortcut and select "Properties".
In the Target line, add "-install d: (or the letter of your DVD drive)" to the end of Steam.exe. A default installation will look like this: C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe -install d:
Launch Steam from this shortcut. It should continue the installation process.

This process take roughly around 15 to 40 mins and it read from the DVD FINALLY!

Neither of the methods above negate the need to use a valid key.
