Sorry for two topics on Mass Effect back to back, but I just read up on Mass Effect going to the big screen.

It appears as though the sci-fi RPG Mass Effect has taken its first big step toward becoming a movie. Kotaku (via Variety) are reporting that big time comic book movie producer Avi Arad has optioned the rights of Mass Effect from Electronic Arts.

Arad is the guy who produced Iron Man in case you don't know.

Anyways, what do you guys think about this? Will it possibly be good? Who should be casted as who?

This is the Iron Man that came out last year? Because I thought it was bad. Boring, bland. Except for Downey. One of the best performances I've ever seen, anywhere.

I like the idea of a ME movie, but if the same guy tries to make it, I hope someone else buys the rights from him, and fast.

I'm not very good at casting, but I think Saren should be played or voiced by... Dang. Can't remember the name now.

I rather liked Iron Man, and it was an unexpected success for the box office.

Mass Effect has immense potential for a movie.

But it'll never work out well--hollywood simply will never, under any circumstances, take a video game seriously.
In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'

Who says it has to be done by hollywood? Do you think maybe Peter Jackson could tackle it? He turned over 1500 pages and thousands of years of history into a 9-hour trilogy.

    Sadly this is true.

Hollywood is just my shorthand for the entire movie industry.

And if Peter Jackson did it, it would be terrible. His scenes last way too long. Check out his version of King Kong. The Kong/Trex fight scene is longer than the entire original film.

In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'

I don't understand how they can turn comic book characters into good movies but not video games.
