Also, be aware that the X360 version of GTA IV uses a quite low setting, compared to what the PC version can be set to. View and detail distances are set to 22 on the X360 version, whereas a PC user can potentially crank this up to 100. (Well, you might, if you're running a 4870x2 CF rig ^^ with an i7 965 and 6gb of DDR3 ofc...)
But yes, the game is just a straight-trough port, with very few optimizations done to fit the PC. Wish this darn long delay from the 360 release would actually be worth it, but it surely isn't, since it's practically the same stuff wrapped in a new executable with extra "protection" included. (*cough* SecuROM bloatware *cough*)
Let's see if R* can actually do something for us that bought the game, not just spend all their money on some $200k copy protection that will eventually get cracked anyway. This game needs a patch!
Actually viewdistance and detail set to 90 will run ok (around 40fps) even on a system with dual 9600gt and 4gb of DDR2 ram.

Well, this is strange, since the game req's 1gb+ of texture mem to run on high details with a view and detail distance over about 40.
The game gives me a CTD when trying to run on any settings close to or above the mem limit. (Also running Vista, so those damn WDDM memory settings could be the issue, but I doubt it, since those are meant to increase the amount of memory usable by any graphical application.)
FYI, I'm running a GTX280 with 1024mb GDDR3, 4gb PC8500 DDR2, if the game can't run well on that on at least moderately high settings it's not quite well optimized, to be honest.
Bah, I'm gonna give R* some time to get out a proper patch, then I'll fight them with teeth and claws to at least get my money back for selling a de facto defective product. (i.e. a product which doesn't meet the specifications supplied by the manufacturer.)
An end-user shouldn't have to try 5 different drivers, shortcut commands, .ini-file tweaking (all these in vain, as they don't help out a bit) to get a game working.
I dont get what u mean? I didnt ask u to use any site there.
