Age of Empires 3 Message Board  

I know you hear it all the time about people not knowing alot about computers (files to be exact) but I reall have a big mess here. I have been playing AOE 3 and all the expansions for a while now and really havnt been intrested in cheats or trainers. Well I decided to try one out and had my brother download one(from this website). I didnt work so I looked in the program files and some of them are different now. When you open the "DATA" file and then open "proto" file to enable cheats I find alot of jibberish. I know you might need more information but this is all I can tell you sorry! I would really like to know what has happened and how to fix it....

The jibberish is normal , that is the computers code so it knows how to run the file.The is perfectly normal .But if the game does not run properly i would suggest uninstalling the age of empires then re-installing .use that as a last resort tho.

So I unistalled EVERYTHING and now I cant install war cheifs?! But I can install the original and asian dynasty. What should I do know?!

You need to install every thing in order of newnes{new word in my dictionary}First install the Age Of Empires 3 Then the war Chiefs then the Asian Dynasties so the newest game is the last.

Yeah I did install in the right order. But still nothing. My brother said that I opened the "proto.xml" file with a wrong "notepad". I dont really understand it. Thanks for the info and update.

I always open the "proto.xml" for some modding but nothing really happened but if anything happened to this file will stop the game working but reinstalling should fix if you got all of the games in the same folder it is very hard to find the right "proto.xml" for each and another thing what is the problem you are experiencing in the installing of the game?
