new 8.12 beta drivers were leaked. I have an aging system: X2 4200, 2 gig ram, socket 939, 4850 (512). Was obviously chugging until I tried out the new beta drivers. I'm at 1440x900 with medium and very high settings and everything else auto-config'd...im getting 0 texture errors (pop-in, delayed load, no load, etc) and a steady 40-50 fps...official 8.12 goes live the 10th I believe, but in the mean time I recommend checking these out if you are getting unbearable frame chug.

damn. glad to hear it boosted your framerate a lot. i got gears to hold me off till the 10th. lol. can't wait for this though. time to get GTA actually playable on my machine.

and for me, 10-15 FPS on Medium textures, high render. sliders at 25. shadows at 0 on this machine;

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
4GB DDR2 PC2-8300 RAM
512MB ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT

on that machine i get 10-15FPS. i'm hoping for 30-40 at the least after 8.12.

Does anyone know if they are compatible with laptops or do I have to wait for the Mobility version?

LoL, this reminds me of the whole, "if Crysis had been updated to officially support DX10.1 instead of selling out to Nividia, since it didn't have cards to support 10.1 at the time" incident where Ati cards got awful fps but could of gotten better if only Crysis had put out an update to use DX10.1. Gonna try out the beta, as the new drivers are 3-4 days away and that's a lifetime to a gamer playing a game that could be a lot better if only they could get a new optimized driver update for the game.

Just installed and benchmarked the new drivers using GTA 4's benchmark option, saw 10+ fps increase, from 15fps to 25+ fps on my older pc with a sapphire A9RD580Adv, with amd 4200+ 939, 2gb ram, 3x500gb Seagate hdds, and a radeon hd 3850 video card on 1280x786 setting.

i believe this is just for desktop Radeons though i'm not 100% sure. you'll find out on Wednesday.
