This could simply be because you're not admin, or maybe the game is still running? You have to completely close the game when you try to edit it. This goes for modifying any file with all games.

Having the same problem. Am only account on this computer, so am the admin, and the game does not show in Task Manager/Applications (and do not any sacred processes running under Process). However, get the following error: Cannot create .... Make sure the path and filename are correct. Any thoughts?

The balance.txt file itself is not read only but the

parrent folders are.Thats why you can't just modify and

save it.So heres the solution,copy and paste the balance

file to the desktop,change it to read only on the

desktop and save,then just unclick read only and save

again,now simply drag and drop the file back to it's

destination and allow it to write over the old one.Now

you can simply go into the folder and change the balance

file at will.As always make yourself a backup somewhere.
Now if you wan't a ****load of stats and attributes

thats really simple to.Here is the line in the balance

text file that needs to be changed,after you level up

the first time though you will need to save your

game,exit,then change the line back to what it was

before.Becouse if you reach level 255 you will role over

back to 1.The optional values line can be used after

level 100 or so,this way you still have to work on

leveling but now its not impossible.The QuestGoldlow

line is simply the quest paydays,Just add a couple of

zeros to all 4 numbers and you'll be fine.

QuestExplow = {20,25,30,40,50}, (defaults)
QuestExplow = {20000,25000,30000,40000,50000}, (new

values)
QuestExplow = {2000,2500,3000,4000,5000}, (optional

balanced values)


Whats cool about this is that your not using any kind of

cheat codes or trainers so you can simply create a new

chr in single player mode,level him up to where you want

very quickly,then change the balance file back to

defaults and play online in either open net or single

player coop.Closed net will not be modified at all even

if the file is left modified.This is with the latest

version 2.340.Do this im silver mode becouse bronze is

nothing with a chr this high of levels.

Again once you get your chr level to where you want

it,then change the line back to defaults or optional,the

rest of the gameplay will not be effected at all.The

first main quest will shoot you up to around level 100

or so.
Note : Starting a new chr in silver can be pretty hard

at first.Just make that first main quest and you'll be

good to go.
