I remember there being dialog with Braun (Betty) after asking him why he doesn't stop and he says his body would be unable to sustain itself after 200 years of being in that state. So more then likely its the same for all of them which is why you cant save them only put them out of their misery.

has no one figured out the right combo for the exit terminal that old lady is talking about? if you go in the abandon house and click on the objects they make a diferent tone, and they must be done in the proper sequence. i got about five of them but could not find the last.thats the way to get out with no bad karma.if someone figures it out please post it.

the right sequence is.. if i remember right..
    radio
    pitcher
    gnome
    pitcher
    brick
    radio
    cola-bottle (by the door)
    i could be wrong tough.
just listen to the music that plays continuously around that area and replicate it, its not that hard
you have to use some objects more than once tough.

besides the question: "would they die if you unplug them"?
there is another thing im thinking about.
i'd rather kill those people for good, than to let them live outside the virtual world.
that's not because im cruel or anything like that.
    it's another reason.

those people lived in there for 200 years in 3 differend surroundings. (sunny beach, snowy mountains, perfect tranquility lane)
they don't have any feeling for time. if you ask them how long they have been there, they simply can't tell you.

so now they lived for 200 years and don't know it. they lived perfect lives, except for the torturing and killing. though they seem unable to remember that.

if you now unplug them and tell them to go outside the vault and live the rest of their natural lifes the way everybody else in the wastelands does . . . i don't think they would be able to cope with that.
all they can remember is perfect, and then they end up in a world that's the exact opposite of that.

so my decision is, to kill them and end their lives fast, rather than keep them in that wrong perfect world or "free" them to a world that is much more like a nightmare than anything else.
they allready lived for about 3 lifetimes. that should be enough. ~=)

note to nookiez: don't use nukes indoors! it's not healthy!!! =)

Personally, I'd think so too. Altho, in a way, they could be protected and, in return, they would contribute with possibly valuable pre-war knowledge.
They could make a living, say, in Rivet City. Where they're safe and can stay as long as they're useful.

Regardless of that, if you consider pure american karma, the good guys would probably not kill those people if they could get them out alive, even if it meant they couldn't sustain themselves afterwards. One of those freedom of choice things, y'know.

Have you updated your game with the latest patch? Once I have all the updates I have not had my game crash once. It use to crash here and there with the retail version of the game.
