I was looking around last night to see if I could find any news about mods or the much awaited SDK for Fallout3 when I stumbled onto this website. Although the SDK still hasn't been released, a handful of small mods have already been made for Fallout 3. One guy already figured out how to do some simple texturing as he added lipgloss onto a female Fallout 3 character. This is awesome news guys! Plus, script extension for Fallout 3 has been confirmed. This means that more animations and content can be add to the game that the original vanilla version can't offer. You want a strip club added to Megaton with naked chicks dancin around on the table tops that can offer *special* services for a few caps? You got it! Script extension is a Godsend and will add a lot more content to Fallout 3.

I think that Bethesda is just holding out on releasing the official SDK until after Christmas because they don't want to see all these nudity mods come out that might hender sales prior to the holidays being over.

I think that's a bit strange though since Fallout 3 is already rated "M" for mature and the only people playing it should be mature enough to understand what sex and nudity is all about. Oblivion was shooting for a "T" rating at first but once nudity mods started coming out the ESRB quickly changed it to an "M" rating. That's not exactly Bethesda's fault. They only offered the tools. The way some others decided to craft the game with theirs should have nothing to do with Bethesda's *original* work! Besides, what's wrong with society in general? Why is it ok for young kids to be exposed to so much violence and carnage but not allowed to see naked chicks prancin around? WTF?!?!

Anyways, for most of us, it doesn't matter what a game is rated. Most of us are adults anyhow and can buy and expose ourselves to whatever we want. Bethesda could offer the SDK off their website and require an age verification to be able to download it. That clears them of any wrong doing if some underaged kid *lies* about his age to download it and make porn mods.

Anyways, this is OUTSTANDING news and it's a step towards us getting much more content into Fallout 3 so that it too may be as good as Fallout 2 was.

That's the best news I've heard since Fallout 3 came out. Well, except maybe the release of Red Alert 3, but you get my drift.

Software Developement Kit = SDK. It's the software that the Devs used to make the game. It's basically a construction set that allows you to edit textures, add textures, edit values, add values, etc etc etc. It's the needed tools that allow people to create mods and addons for games like Oblivion and Fallout 3.

Most informative. Thank you very much, I appreciate the speedy explanation. Now, why wait till after Christmas to release it? Ratings have no deadlines anyway...

Well, that's the BIG question that everyone is waiting to here from Bethesda about. Bethesda has ALWAYS released SDK's with their games since they believe that mods can help them push sales. And they're right! Unfortuneately, they chose not to release the SDK with Fallout 3 and this limits the amount of modding that can be done for the game and it's going to hurt Bethesda on boosting sales.

This doesn't mean that mods can't be created, it just means that those mods will be limited and basic. For instance, new buildings, characters, and creatures are not possible to create without the SDK.

It would be completely foolish for Bethesda to not release the SDK since Oblivion is still earning them sales from people who've seen the work that the modding community has done for that game. There are all sorts of porn mods for it but there are also new creature mods, new town and city mods, new armor mods, new weapon mods, new magic mods, etc etc etc.

If we want to see Fallout 3 mimic the world of Fallout 2 and add all the options that Fallout 2 had then the SDK will be much needed. Plus, the SDK makes modding MUCH MUCH faster and easier for those who know how to use it. It's a lot easier to use than a HEX editor by far.

In my opinion, I think Fallout 3 would boost sales if they were to release the SDK right now, regardless of the holidays, since many Oblivion fans and modders have refused to pick up a copy of Fallout 3 if the SDK is not going to be released for it.

Also, I truly believe that companies that release SDKs with their games are able to limit the amount of pirating they get otherwise. Most people want an offical copy of the game when they create mods. This is because they want to make sure those mods they create will be compatible with everyone else's game. Pirated copies are often buggy and not as stable so for modding and to run mods it's best to own an authentic copy of the software.

I'm thinking they'll breakdown and release it soon. There's just too much of a demand for it. They'll see very quick that Fallout 3 won't have the same lasting appeal and future sales that Oblivion has had unless they cough up the SDK. But we'll see!

Oooo.. this is good news indeed, maybe somebody can make a power-armor thats not ugly as sin. I know they are pretty much like they were in previous fallouts but now too much detail makes them that much more ugly.

And ofcourse maybe someday we will see the return of gauss-guns

and oblivion's sales almost doubled once the SDK was released.

Bethesda knows this and they will get it out eventually.

But the nudity thing is also part of the reason. Bethesda does not need any controversy with this game over the holidays. that and they want to sell their own DLC (most likely coming in late november/december) as well.

I say SDK probably end of january.

But honestly it's amazing that in only 7 days we have 60 mods some of which are incredibly helpful.

and just another reason why PC>Console
