The Halo saga reached a dramatic climax with Halo 3, but the franchise did not end there -- not by a long shot. Along with Halo Wars and the Peter Jackson Halo Project, a fourth entry in the legendary shooter franchise is rumored to be on the readyline. Rumors run heavy on what the future of Halo will be -- some point to series originator Bungie as the likely generals behind the next chapter, while others say that a new unit (likely suspects currently being Gearbox) has taken command of the future of Halo, and everything from a true "#4" sequel to a franchise reboot to a secret next-generation Xbox Halo have all been talked about as possible directions for the Halo franchise to take.

Halo 4 to be Launch Title for Next Generation Xbox?
UK, August 26, 2008 - Master Chief's next big outing could herald the launch of the next generation of consoles, with rumour abound that Halo 4 is to be amongst the first wave of titles for the Xbox 360's follow-up console.

Alluded to in the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine, which has been thumbed by Joystiq, Gearbox is said to be working on the fourth instalment proper in the bestselling series. Gearbox's own Randy Pitchford – currently doing the rounds extolling the virtues of the studio's imminent Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway – was recently quoted as saying of the company's next project, "When you find out what this is, you'll likely agree that I can't oversell this one."

Gearbox is also currently at work on Aliens: Colonial Marines, a full-blooded first person take on the film series that's proved such a rich inspiration for the Halo universe.

LIES! Bungie Said that there would NOT be a halo4, those are just Rumors and if a company made a halo4 with out bungies permission a big lawsuit would be going on

Actually they only said that they wouldn't make another one, and that it wouldn't continue the story line of Halo 3.

There's no doubt that a new Halo game will be released eventually, the potential earnings are just to great.

I saw the IGN article when i got home today.

It made me laugh because the xbox 720 was made up by a fan then the fan just made a fake system pic and included halo 4 box image(along with about 5 other people). I dont buy it nor do i really care if there is a halo 4. It was "Finish the Fight" Next is "Start a new Fight" or what ever that video about the world domination of halo said....

If there is a halo 4 it will be on 360 because of how much Microsoft is putting into the 360, they would loose several thousands or millions if they were to do that because so many are buying 360's right now because of what is soon to come...
