I heard that it was also like this with Shadow of Chernobyl, but in that case the demo came years before the original game. Can anyone tell if thats true?

ya SHOC had loads of pre demos for each version of the game
originally it had robots and cyborgs (no lie it was called oblivion lost)
also SHOC took around 4/5 years to make

it actually took 6 years, and almost every year the main concept was being reworked from the groundup. it wasnt even about chernobyl at the beginning.
