So I've now tried both versions of the trainer on several people's computers with various versions of the (English language) game: the Atari download, a Direct2Drive download, and a store-bought CD copy of the game. No luck with any of them. The game always crashes upon loading the map.

For what it's worth, this is the error log I'm getting after a typical crash:

"6.6600: [GUI] [.\SystemLevel\Cursor\HWCursor.cpp,54,RegisterImage] Cannot load cursor 'cursor_attach' (Data\SkinnedGUI\Cursors\cursor_attach.cur)

I'm not running any antivirus or other third party programs while using the trainer. What am I doing wrong? How can I get it to work? :\

Try the no-cd fix (RLD) from GameCopyWorld.com.

The No-CD Fix works... alas all of my dialogue is gone and replaced with fun little messages like uiContinue or uitext and such. I'm guessing it has something to do with the Daemon works? Unfortunately when they refer to mounting with Daemon tools I am quite clueless...

i know what you mean it really takes away from the experience, the daemon tools things is for pirated versions... at least that's what i understand. if anyone knows how to fix the dialogue it would be appreciated.
