I know this answer comes probably too late, but I'll post in anyway. I played the third case today and I didn't have any trouble getting Michael's shoe. I just asked him for it and he gave it to me. Maybe you missed some peace of evidence somewhere. Or maybe you should investigate the evidence you collected in the lab first. If that doesn't help, I wouldn't know.
