GM is closing 4 plants and I also read that they're considering selling the Hummer brand.

I don't know about the American plants but the truck plant in Oshawa Canada is closing next year and over 2000 people are getting laid off. And officials are saying that up to 12000 people will lose their jobs due to this. The Toronto star said for every assembly line worker fired/laid off 3 people from a parts company and 3 people in the service industry get fired/laid off. So in total 12000 people could be out of a job in Oshawa and the surrounding area. Very bad news for Oshawa.

But honestly it was inevitable. Making big gas guzzling beasts in times like these isn't smart. As far as Hummer, good ridins. The H2 and H3 are stupid worthless pieces of junk. The have garbage interiors, crappy MPG, horrible ride, and they even suck off road. There is nothing good about them in any way. You're basically guaranteed to be a poser if you drive one.

Daimler-Chrysler has several plants around here (SE Wisconsin) and they're all threatened with closure.

As I see it, this is just the tip of the iceberg. GM is way too big. They have too many duplicate vehicles. Buick and Hummer need to be sold off and all the other brands need to be trimmed down.

Chrysler also has too many duplicated models. Like the new Chrysler Aspen which in nothing but a Dodge Durango with a Chrysler grill. Stepping up quality couldn't hurt either, give people a real reason to buy their cars. And no I don't think of affordable crap as a real reason.

When times were good, the Big Three convinced themselves that times would always stay good. As a result, they mortgaged their futures by allowing quality to steeply decline and agreed to "Cadillac" retirement plans for their employees without bothering to negotiate a less-expensive compromise.

I drive a Mazda after having three American cars, and I'll never go back.

I just got the newsletter of the greatest car show on TV. Top Gear. Season 11 is fully shot and they're just fixing some minor things. Seriously go to these links and read the stories, if you're even a small Top Gear fan you can not miss these stories.

TGTV update: Alfas, the Germans and 186mph - Link

TGTV update: The Foreign Versions - Link

I simply can't wait for season 11. I have all 10 seasons so far on my external hard drive and around a dozen specials/movies.

One of the above stories mentioned the Australian version of Top Gear. Does anyone know if that one is airing in Australia? If it is I'm going to watch that one also because British Top Gear says it's pretty good. Also, has anyone heard any updates on the American version?

Where i live GM is already breaking ground for a new plant. They said if they decide not to use the area they will hand it off to another car company.
