Couldn't find much on the Hamilton circuit, but here's a hot lap round Bathurst, 6.2km long. You'll have to excuse the commentator, he's an Aussie.

I don't believe this.

Being the racing analyst that I can be, I deduct that the only way that GT-R would beat an LP640 is if the GT-R driver is better than the LP640 driver. Which he clearly was in this instance.

The footwork was rather interesting to watch of the GT-R driver at around 9:25 - he was actually engine braking half the time through the corners, meaning the GT-R was quicker than the Lambo. I'm pretty sure this is possible, a 2008-spec 4WD system would be far more advanced than a 2006-spec 4WD system, and thus would be able to cope with much more punishment, if the suspension is tuned right. Which it is.

There's no doubt that the GT-R is the quickest car on the track through the turns, but when it becomes a semi-endurance feat like so on the video, it slowly boils down to the drivers' ability to maintain concentration. So no, when it comes down to independant lap timings, I have a hunch that the Lambo would still be the quickest. Around the track, it should still dominate, if all of the drivers were clones. But they weren't, and the Lambo was let down solely by its driver.

Thoughts on this? Skyline, Skud and racing_nut, what do you reckon?

I agree. I saw only one driver using the heel/toe method of braking and accelerating, which give quicker engine response and faster exits from turns. If only the drivers were the Stig, we would have a truer indication of the cars true
potential.

The slip-up in the 3rd lap was solely due to driver error, and if that guy had been concentrating instead of yapping on about how the GTR was on his tail, he may have just beaten him in the end.

Well, the GT-R is one hell of a car. 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and the quarter in 11.5 seconds. But beating a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 seems a bit fishy. I might love this car but still, an LP640? I don't know.

But apparently Car and Driver magazine seems to think that it could beat the LP640.

This GT-R story is about performance numbers, so we won’t dillydally: 60 mph is barbecued in 3.3 seconds, the quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds at 124 mph. Braking from 70 mph takes 145 feet, and skidpad runs are 0.99 g. Those are Olympic-qualifying stats. Indeed, with those results, the GT-R would have nuked our last $123,760 Porsche 911 Turbo and felled our last $404,410 Lamborghini LP640 roadster. Still think the GT-R is too expensive? We don’t.
