The Toyota Prius is an affront to cars, IMO, and I'll explain why.

As far as I'm concerned, it appeals on no fronts whatsoever. I'm going to list a basic criteria of what makes a car desireable, and then I'll see if the Prius fills in that criteria.

Appearance
I think I have better things to do than marvel at its uncanny ability to be so downright hideous. I don't know what Toyota where thinking, maybe this hideousness is eco-friendly.

Speed and Power
You have to be kidding me, right? Link

76BHP? Please, my washing machine generates more power than that.

Interior Quality
Hey look, it's a sea of dreariness! Link

I'm sorry, but this car is just downright crap. There's no good side to it, except its MPG of 48. And the interesting thing is, you can pay a little but extra and buy a Golf 1.6d, which is MUCH more attractive, a damn sight faster than the Prius and does 44MPG in town. Golf vs. Prius. How's that for a foregone conclusion? >_>

I'd just like to add that you'll never get 48 MPG out of a Prius. Well, unless you drive like a grandma. I guarantee a Prius in my hands would be getting in the 20s.

The simple fact about fuel economy is that your driving style is the real deciding factor. If you accelerate hard and are constantly going over the speed limit that 48 MPG plummets. That's why I'd never buy a car for it's efficiency. A sports car's MPG might be low but compared to driving an efficient car really fast your no worse off.

Did I mention that hybrids are cons? The point here is to find a source of energy besides gas but hybrids still use gas. Once the gas runs out the hybrids will be useless just like the gas cars. So you might as well enjoy gas power while you still can.

ELITE
Yes but hybrid cars use their electrical power to aid the gas power, meaning that less petrol/diesel is used in accelerating.

I knew someone would say that. And you are right but it's not that simple. There is a limit to how much power the electric powertrain can provide. The electric motor provides power to aid acceleration under light loads. So if you floor it the gas engine turns on in full force and you use just as much gas as a normal car. So if you're constantly driving aggressively then you're not actually helping the environment. When I drive, I push the car hard in acceleration, that would completely nullify the whole premise of a hybrid. That's why I will never buy a hybrid, it would be pointless for my driving style and wouldn't do anyone any good.

What about Hydrogen cars. We where talking about it in my Chemistry class today. If all you have get that comes out is H2O than wouldn't it reduce the dependness on oil. plus it would also lower CO2 levels.
