Yes, overrated. I enjoyed and still do enjoy Halo 2 a lot more than Halo 3.

i agree that multi player is fun but the campaign is nothing special but its certainly not game of the decade

I'll be the first to admit that the campaign isn't spectacular like Call of Duty 4...
However, it was the storyline that got me hooked ever since Halo CE...I was living in Italy at the time Halo 2 released, and I remember watching a few clips of campaign...wanting to get back to the States and buy the game...I flew back 10 days after the release later and bought it a day or two after that, and got XBL much later after that, after I got a 360.
So yeah, I wanted to buy Halo 3 to finish the fight, I still play multiplayer today which I see better than Halo 2.
But no, it's not overrated. Halo CE was extremely successful, and Halo 2's multiplayer kept the Halo series alive, popular and is probably the main reason why the hype for Halo 3 was so strong.
